SEC Bowl game ranking: Which draw is the most intriguing?

How intriguing is Auburn’s bowl matchup with Maryland compared to others within the conference?

The selection of every college football bowl game has been announced, and  Auburn football is set to face off with the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday, Dec. 30 at the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee.

The matchup will be interesting, as Auburn’s secondary will be tested by Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa’s arm. The younger brother of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has thrown for over 3,000 yards this season, which will keep the likes of [autotag]Jaylin Simpson[/autotag], [autotag]Nehemiah Pritchett[/autotag], and [autotag]Zion Puckett[/autotag] busy.

How interesting is Auburn’s bowl draw compared to the rest of the SEC? The conference will be represented by nine teams this bowl season, with every game appearing to be interesting in its unique way.

Here’s a look at each bowl game featuring an SEC team, ranked from least intriguing to most intriguing.

Auburn’s bowl history with the Big Ten since 2000

Auburn will face Maryland in the 2023 TransPerfect Music City Bowl on Dec. 30. Here is a look at how Auburn has recently performed against the Big Ten in postseason play.

Auburn football learned Sunday that they will be facing Maryland in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 30.

It will mark the third time in Auburn’s history that they will face the Terrapins on the gridiron, and the first time since 1983. Auburn also has a steady history with the Big Ten, especially during bowl season.

The Tigers are 12-12-2 against Big Ten teams all-time, and 16 of the 26 total meetings with current Big Ten teams have been in bowl games. Auburn will have the chance to regain a winning record against Big Ten foes during bowl season.

Since 2000, Auburn has competed in 20 bowl games. Ten of those have been against teams from the Big Ten conference. How well has Auburn stacked up against Big Ten teams in recent bowl memory? Here’s a look at Auburn’s last ten bowl matchups against programs from the Big Ten conference.

USA TODAY Bowl Projections heading into Championship weekend

USA TODAY Sports releases final bowl predictions before conference championship weekend

With the regular season officially complete and only Championship weekend left, it is time to begin looking ahead to bowl season and potential match ups. This is the final season of the four team playoff before it expands to 12, so this will be the last bowl season the way we’ve always known it.

As for the Crimson Tide, their bowl future is still very much up in the air as they take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game this weekend. A win over the Bulldogs will put Alabama in the midst of the Playoff conversation, but even with a win there is no guarantee a top four spot will belong to the Tide. The Crimson Tide could still find themselves stuck behind Michigan, Florida State, Washington and Texas in the final rankings even with a win in the SECCG. If the Tide were to miss out on the Playoffs they will still absolutely get a New Year’s Six bowl, it’s the potential match ups that could be less intriguing.

USA TODAY Sports released their final bowl projections ahead of Championship weekend and they don’t expect Alabama to be competing for a national title in 2023. They predict that the Crimson Tide will square off against Tulane in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 30. USA TODAY expects Georgia, Michigan, Florida State and Oregon to be the four Playoff teams this year.

Where will they go? Taking a look at Auburn football’s potential bowl destinations

Where will Auburn end their season? Experts from across the country weigh in.

The first regular season under head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] is now behind us, and the Auburn Tigers will go to a bowl game for the first time since the 2021 season.

The Tigers, who ended the regular season at 6-6, are expected to play a bowl game during the window between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. According to AL.com’s Matt Cohen, one of the destinations that Auburn can cross off is the Birmingham Bowl. This is because of the possibility of the SEC earning a College Football Playoff bid, plus a New Year’s Six bowl or two. That scenario should free up a slot that could be used for a Group of Five program.

This is exciting for Auburn fans, as they would like to see their favorite team compete in a more prestigious bowl game. But which bowl scenario is more likely to happen? Experts across the country, as well as the writers at Auburn Wire, have revealed their picks ahead of Sunday’s official announcement.

Here is a look at Auburn’s projected destinations and opponents for bowl season.

USA TODAY’s shocking bowl projections after Week 11

Alabama football projected to face Group of 5 opponent this bowl season

With just two games left in the 2023 college football regular season, there are about ten teams that feel like they have a viable chance to make the Playoffs and every year we wonder who is going to be left out. However, it almost always sorts itself out with the next month consisting of games like Michigan vs. Ohio State and Alabama vs. Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

The Alabama season has been so up and down that it has been hard to even begin predicting where the Tide may be this post season. However, at 9-1 with an SEC Championship berth already locked up, the Tide control their own destiny. A road trip to Auburn and an SEC Championship in Atlanta vs Georgia makes for two incredibly hostile environments, but as long as Alabama continues to get better, I feel oddly confident in this Nick Saban team. Over the past year or two, it has felt like the Tide are hanging on for dear life by the end of the season, but this team feels like it is peaking at the right time.

Not everyone shares the same level of optimism for this Alabama team though. Erick Smith of USA TODAY Sports released his updated bowl projections following Week 11 and his projection for the Tide may surprise you. As things currently stand, Smith envisions that Alabama will be taking on Tulane in the Peach Bowl with both sides being at-large.

As for the Playoffs, Smith predicts that Michigan and Florida State will play in the Rose Bowl and Georgia will face in the Sugar Bowl. Needless to say, the next month is going to be awesome.

SEC Bowl Projections: Alabama to the Peach Bowl in latest from USA TODAY Sports

Alabama’s projected opponent in the Peach Bowl may come as a shocking surprise

With only three weeks left in the 2023 college football season, it’s time to start taking a quick glance at what this bowl season may have to offer. It is the final year of the four-team playoff before expanding to the 12-team so this is the final year of the bowl season as we know it.

For the Alabama Crimson Tide, their playoff aspirations are still alive but they are definitely going to need to have some games go in their favor over these next couple of weeks. Alabama still has road trips to Kentucky and Auburn that should not be overlooked, but they will likely be a double-digit favorite in both games. So, the Tide’s playoff hopes and aspirations will likely entirely come down to Dec. 2 when they will more than likely take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta with the SEC Championship on the line.

USA TODAY Sports already has their eye on bowl season as they have released their Week 10 bowl projections. Erick Smith does not share my optimism that Alabama will be playing in the final four but rather has them playing a shocking opponent in the Peach Bowl.

ESPN predicts all 43 bowl games after Week 10 including shocker for Alabama

Where do the ESPN experts predict Alabama football to spend their bowl season?

With only three games left to go in the regular season, teams are beginning to turn an eye to the post-season to see where they might be bowling this year. The College Football Playoffs will be expanding from four teams to 12 after this season which is going to drastically change the way bowl games are perceived, so this may be the final year of the bowl season as we know it.

As for the Alabama Crimson Tide, it is nearly impossible to predict where they will be this post-season. With only three games left in the year Alabama is 8-1 with multiple ranked wins over LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee. If they can win their final three regular season games and beat Georgia in the SEC Championship Game they would be all but a lock to make the playoffs. If they lose any of those four games they will not be in the playoffs – it’s as simple as that. Alabama has continued to get better by the week, and they don’t even feel like they same team that lost at home to Texas on Sept. 9.

Not everyone shares my optimism for Alabama to reach the Playoffs though as ESPN released projections for all 43 bowl games (subscription required). Mark Schlabach predicts that Alabama will take on Penn State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl while his colleague Kyle Bonagura projects the Tide to take on Louisville in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

I have been very impressed by the entirety of the Alabama team in their victories over Tennessee and LSU and truly believe they can be the best team in the country. In my eyes, the season ultimately comes down to a showdown with Georgia in the SEC Championship game which I feel oddly confident about.

USA TODAY Sports forecasts Auburn to meet ACC squad in bowl season

Despite dropping four straight games, Auburn is set up to compete in a quality bowl game according to Erick Smith of USA TODAY Sports.

Auburn football may be in a rough patch currently but is still in contention to earn a quality bowl bid by season’s end.

The latest bowl forecast from Erick Smith of USA TODAY Sports has Auburn earning a trip to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina this season. Their projected opponent? The NC State Wolfpack.

This projection is a bright spot for the Tigers, as Smith has consistently predicted Auburn to play in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa throughout the season. The Duke’s Mayo Bowl bid would ensure that Auburn would play in a bowl game that is set to take place after Christmas against a quality opponent in NC State.

According to Smith’s latest projection, 10 SEC teams are expected to become bowl-eligible this season. He lists Georgia as the lone member of the conference to earn a trip to the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs are predicted to beat Washington in the College Football Playoff Semifinals and could meet Michigan in the CFP National Championship Game.

Auburn currently sits at 3-4 while NC State is 4-3. Auburn has a string of games coming up that will allow them to build confidence and earn bowl eligibility while the Wolfpack will end the season with tough teams such as Clemson, Miami, and North Carolina.
