Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Boston Bruins (1-0-0) face the Philadelphia Flyers (1-0-1) Wednesday at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Bruins vs. Flyers odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Bruins kicked off the regular season with a 3-1 victory against the Dallas Stars on Saturday behind G Jeremy Swayman. C Brad Marchand notched the first goal of the season on a penalty shot, while LW Jake DeBrusk had the game-winning tally. Marchand also added an empty-net goal, showing the B’s still have plenty of firepower.

The Flyers routed the expansion Seattle Kraken 6-1 Monday. G Carter Hart bounced back nicely after allowing four goals in a 5-4 shootout loss against the Vancouver Canucks in the regular-season opener Friday.

Bruins at Flyers projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .964 SV%) vs. Martin Jones (15-13-4, 3.28 GAA, .896 SV%, 1 SO in 2020-21 with San Jose Sharks)

Swayman was outstanding in his season debut, turning aside 27 of 28 shots in Saturday’s 3-1 opener against Dallas. Only C Luke Glendening beat Swayman, and the B’s never trailed.

Jones will make his team debut with the Flyers after spending the past six seasons with the Sharks. He hasn’t had a winning season since the 2018-19 season when he was 36-19-0 with a 2.94 GAA and .896 SV%.

Bruins at Flyers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 5, Flyers 2

Money line

The BRUINS (-145) hit the road for the first time this season, and the moderate favorites are the play behind Swayman. Not only was he outstanding in the opener, but he was tremendous in his rookie campaign. He was 7-3-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .945 SV% with two shutouts, including a 1-1-0 record, 2.53 GAA and .923 SV% in two starts against the Flyers last season.

Against the spread

The BRUINS -1.5 (+160) are worth a small-unit play at plus-money. Jones makes his Philly debut, and he’ll be looking to impressive. But we’ve seen plenty of goaltenders, who changed teams in the offseason, have disastrous results in their first outing. Swayman already looks locked in, and the offense was impressive against Dallas.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-125) is the best play on the board here. It’s still obviously a small sample size, but we have had the Over hit in each of Philly’s first two games with a total of eight total in two home dates against Seattle and the Vancouver Canucks. Boston has the best offense Philly has seen to date.

Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Bruins (19-10-6) play the second end of a home-and-home with the Philadelphia Flyers (18-14-5) Tuesday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at Wells Fargo Center. Below, we analyze the Bruins-Flyers odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Bruins are looking to bounce back after a disappointing 3-2 overtime loss against the Flyers at TD Garden in Boston Monday. Boston has alternated wins and losses in their past eight outings. The good news is that they haven’t lost consecutive games since March 13-15.

The Flyers picked up the win as moderate underdogs on Monday behind goaltender Brian Elliott. They’re 3-1-1 across the past five outings, with three of the games decided in either overtime or a shootout. Four of the five have been decided by one goal, too.

Bruins at Flyers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:55 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Bruins -135 (bet $135 to win $100) | Flyers +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Bruins -1.5 (+200) | Flyers +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Bruins at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Dan Vladar (2-1-0, 2.25 GAA, .922 SV%) vs. Carter Hart (8-9-4, 3.92 GAA, .871 SV%, 1 SO)

Vladar coughed up three goals on 32 shots in Monday’s OT loss against the Flyers. Goaltender Tuukka Rask remains sidelined due to an upper-body injury, and Jaroslav Halak recently tested positive for COVID-19, so it appears Vladar will do the heavy lifting for the immediate future.

Hart was a lot better Saturday on the road against the Islanders, falling 3-2 in a shootout. But it was a tremendous improvement after he allowed 15 total goals in his three previous outings. Hart is 0-2-2 with a 5.32 GAA and .843 SV% in four starts against the B’s this season.

Bruins at Flyers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bruins 6, Flyers 4

Money line (ML)

The BRUINS (-135) are using their third-string goaltender, but don’t be dissuaded by that against Hart and the Flyers (+115). The Philly backstop has coughed up nearly four goals per game, and he hasn’t been able to stop Boston yet this season. Roll with the visitors.

Against the spread (ATS)

The BRUINS -1.5 (+200) are worth a small-unit play on the road, even with Vladar. Hart has just been so poor against the B’s that you have to back the road team here. Just don’t go crazy. I’d feel a lot better if Halak or Rask were in there instead, so there is a risk.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-110) is the best play on the board. Yes, we saw just five total goals in Boston in the front end of the home-and-home, but we also had Elliott in the cage for Philly. Hart is good for at least four goals allowed most nights, and Boston’s offense will be awfully ornery after being held down Monday.

Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Boston Bruins at Philadelphia Flyers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Bruins (7-1-2) and Philadelphia Flyers (7-2-2) get back to it Friday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at Wells Fargo Center. The Bruins came away with a 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers Wednesday after falling behind 3-1. Below, we analyze the Bruins-Flyers NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Bruins at Flyers: Odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Bruins -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Flyers +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Bruins -1.5 (+190) | Flyers +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Bruins at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Tuukka Rask (4-1-1, .888 SV%, 2.57 GAA) vs. Brian Elliott (3-0-0, .932 SV%, 2.22 GAA)

Rask stopped 22 of 25 shots faced in Wednesday’s win over the Flyers. It was his third victory in his last four outings with the loss coming in overtime against the Washington Capitals Saturday. He has allowed 3 or 4 goals in three of those four games.

Elliott comes in for Friday’s game after starter Carter Hart allowed 4 goals on 35 shots in the overtime loss Wednesday. Elliott hasn’t been charged with a loss yet this season, but he allowed 3 goals in each of his last two outings.

Bruins at Flyers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Flyers 4, Bruins 3

Money line (ML)

The FLYERS (+120) are worth a shot for the upset on home ice after letting a 2-goal lead slip away Wednesday. The Bruins dominated puck possession with 53.68% of all shot attempts, including blocked and missed shots, at 5-on-5, but the Flyers had 58.33% of the even-strength scoring chances.

Boston was also opportunistic in scoring on 3 of 4 power-play opportunities. Even at a 28th-ranked 70.73% success rate, the Flyers penalty kill should be better than that.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The FLYERS +1.5 (-250) can also be backed for the insurance on the puck line with a small wager. Their last three games have gone to extra time, and they won two of those over the Islanders. The Bruins are 4-0-1 in their last five games, and three of those went to overtime.

These teams met for a two-game set in Boston Jan. 21 and 23; Boston won the first game by a 5-4 score in a shootout.

Over/Under (O/U)

All three meetings between these two teams have seen at least 7 total goals scored. Rask should get right sooner than later, but there’s little reason to hope for the correction to come in this spot against the high-scoring Flyers.

Back the OVER 5.5 (-115).
