Boise State at New Mexico odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Boise State at New Mexico odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Boise State Broncos (15-4, 5-1 MWC) face the New Mexico Lobos  (17-2, 4-2) at The Pit on Friday. Tip-off is at 11 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Boise State vs. New Mexico odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Boise State has won its last 5 conference games following a loss to Nevada in its Mountain West opener on Dec. 28. Four of those 5 games, including a 77-62 revenge win over Nevada on Tuesday, have been by at least 15 points. The Broncos currently lead the MWC.

New Mexico started the season with 12 wins out of conference before starting the Mountain West slate with 2 losses in its first 6 contests. The Lobos are 5-1 against the spread (ATS) at home.

This will be a matchup of strengths as Boise State allows 60.6 points per game (15th) while New Mexico averages 81.9 points (16th). The team who can dictate the pace will come out victorious.

Boise State at New Mexico picks and predictions

Prediction

Boise State 73, New Mexico 71

Moneyline

BET BOISE STATE (+130).

New Mexico is good at The Pit — its 12-1 record there shows this. However, Boise State has been drilling its opponents since entering conference play.

With 5 wins in conference and 4 of them coming by at least 15 points, the Broncos are using their defense to rack up wins. The Lobos, despite averaging 81.9 points, will find it difficult to score and the Broncos will win outright.

Against the spread

BOISE STATE +3.5 (-115) is a fine wager if you want some insurance and don’t want to take the moneyline.

The Broncos are leading the Mountain West and will be highly-motivated against the 2nd place Lobos. New Mexico used a hot start to the season to get up to No. 22 in the Jan. 2 USA Today Sports Coaches Poll. The Lobos have lost 2 of their last 5 games since and have fallen out of the top 25. New Mexico is still a solid team, but Boise State and its 5-game win streak will hand the Lobos their 3rd loss in conference play.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 145.5 (-105).

Boise State allows just 60.6 points per game (15th) and New Mexico will find points hard to come by despite its scoring prowess. The Broncos will need to put up their fair share of points to emerge victorious, but their defense will hold the Lobos down and this game will hit the Under.

Boise State at New Mexico odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Boise State at New Mexico odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Boise State Broncos (0-1) and New Mexico Lobos (1-0) meet at University Stadium Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Boise State vs. New Mexico odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Boise State scored all of its points in the second half of a 34-17 loss at the Oregon State Beavers last Saturday. The Broncos received the offensive spark after bringing in backup QB Taylen Green, who passed for 155 yards but ran for 102 yards with 2 TDs, including a 74-yard score in the 3rd quarter.

New Mexico blew out the FCS Maine Black Bears 41-0 Saturday. Following a scoreless opening quarter, the Lobos scored 3 touchdowns before halftime. RB Sherod White (13 carries, 58 yards) ran 4 yards for the first TD, while RB Luke Wysong (6 carries, 43 yards; 3 catches, 51 yards) scored the next 2 for a 21-0 lead. The defense held the Bears to 118 total yards.

Boise State is 4-0 against the spread (ATS) in its last 4 games after failing to cover.

In the last 5 head-to-head meetings, Boise State is 4-1 ATS vs. New Mexico.

Boise State at New Mexico picks and predictions

Prediction

Boise State 31, New Mexico 10

Money line

PASS.

While the Broncos (-1100) should win by margin, betting $1,100 to only win $100 is not worth the risk.

Against the spread

Boise State coach Andy Avalos has not confirmed which quarterback will start Friday.

After Broncos starting QB Hank Bachmeier was pulled Saturday, the 4th-year quarterback should have extra motivation to run up the score if he starts. Bachmeier should be comfortable vs. New Mexico after leading Boise State to a 37-0 win last November in the previous head-to-head meeting.

If Bachmeier starts, BET BOISE STATE -17.5 (-108).

Over/Under

Two strong trends point toward the Under.

The Under is 6-0 in Boise State’s last 6 games following an ATS loss and 4-0 in the last 4 vs. New Mexico. The Lobos should have a much tougher time scoring in this matchup than they did vs. the FCS-member  Bears.

BET UNDER 44.5 (-112).
