Blue Bombers at Roughriders picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Bombers 32, Roughriders 19

Moneyline

Winnipeg (-300) will cost you 3 times your potential return, and that’s quite expensive, even if the Bombers already won at Mosaic Stadium back in Week 2 by 18 points.

While the Bombers have won 5 straight games since Week 6, and they haven’t lost in regulation since Week 3, nothing is a sure thing. AVOID, and don’t risk triple your return.

Against the spread

WINNIPEG -7.5 (-110) isn’t my favorite play, as laying 7 and a hook in football games is an annoyance of mine. I much prefer a flat 7, or 6.5. It just makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

However, the Bombers covered a similar number in a trip to Regina earlier this season, it cashed as a 7.5-point favorite last weekend against a solid Alouettes side, and Winnipeg has covered 4 in a row when favored between 6-9 points.

Over/Under

OVER 47.5 (-110) is the lean, but play it lightly.

The Over has cashed in 3 of the past 4 games for Winnipeg, and the Bombers have rolled up 38 or more points in each of those instances. The Bombers have also recorded 28 or more points in 5 of the previous 6 outings, and they dropped a 45-burger on the Riders in the first matchup.

SSK comes in with 3 straight Over results, with the defense allowing 35.0 points per game (PPG) across the last 2. The Bombers have conceded at least 19 points in 6 straight games, too, and it allowed a season-high 45 to Winnipeg in Week 2.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Saskatchewan Roughriders odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Saskatchewan Roughriders odds and lines, with expert CFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1-0) and the Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-0) battle Friday night at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network/TSN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Bombers vs. Roughriders odds, and make our expert CFL picks and predictions.

The Blue Bombers rolled to a 42-31 victory — a 4.5-point favorites — against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last weekend at IG Field in Manitoba in a 2021 Grey Cup rematch. Winnipeg went for 478 total yards, with 138 yards on the ground. The Bombers had fired out to a 29-4 halftime lead before the T-Cats made it somewhat respectable in the 2nd half.

The Roughriders managed a 17-13 road victory — as 2.5-point underdogs — against the Edmonton Elks Sunday, and now face the quick turnaround. The Riders held the Elks to just 73 rushing yards, while outgaining Edmonton by a 305-to-243 margin in total yards. Saskatchewan racked up 5 sacks, while each team turned it over 3 times in a sloppy game.

Blue Bombers at Roughriders picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Bombers 29, Roughriders 19

Moneyline

Winnipeg (-250) will cost you 2½ times your potential return in this projected road win. That’s too risky for not enough reward.

Still, Saskatchewan (+200) cannot be trusted against the high-octane Winnipeg offense, even at home. These teams are just on 2 different planes.

PASS.

Against the spread

WINNIPEG -6.5 (-110) is a solid play, even on the road, especially if this line stays under 7.5, or even a flat 7.

The Blue Bombers routed the Ti-Cats last week by 11 points. It would have been much worse, but Winnipeg took its foot off the gas in the 2nd half.

Saskatchewan was sloppy last week in a win at Edmonton, turning it over 3 times. The Roughriders can’t afford to do that against Winnipeg or they’ll get boat-raced.

Over/Under

OVER 46.5 (-110) is the lean. Go lightly and play a HALF UNIT at best.

Winnipeg nearly took care of the Over itself in Week 1, posting a league-high 42 points. On the flip side, Saskatchewan combined for just 30 points in the Week 1 win at Edmonton.

That’s why this isn’t a slam-dunk play in Week 2. The Roughriders offense will struggle to put up points, and the Blue Bombers should see a lot more resistance this week vs. last week’s matchup.
