2012 NBA re-draft: The way it should have been

HoopsHype re-drafts the 2012 NBA draft class, headlined by Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard and Draymond Green.

The 2012 NBA draft is notable in that it gave us Anthony Davis, an excellent No. 1 pick and eventual NBA champion, Damian Lillard, one of the best scoring guards of all time, and Draymond Green, one of the league’s best defenders and second-round picks ever.

However, as you’ll see below, this draft falls off pretty quickly, with role players taking up the majority of the Top 10.

Which prospects are rising ahead of the NBA Draft Combine?

HoopsHype lists the top prospects rising ahead of the NBA Draft Combine according to executives and scouts.

Several prospects helped themselves during the NCAA Tournament going into the NBA draft lottery and the combine beginning May 12.

HoopsHype has ranked the top rising prospects ahead of both events below in order of how far they’ve climbed up our aggregate mock draft board.

2024 Aggregate Mock Draft: Donovan Clingan and Zach Edey rising before combine

HoopsHype’s aggregate 2024 NBA mock draft lists the top prospects in the class, including rising centers Donovan Clingan and Zach Edey.

Following the NCAA Tournament and ahead of the NBA Draft Combine, HoopsHype has updated where the top prospects currently stand for the 2024 NBA Draft by compiling 10 mock drafts from ESPN, The Athletic, Bleacher Report, The Ringer, NBA Big Board, Yahoo Sports, CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated, SB Nation, and USA TODAY’s For The Win.

HoopsHype also spoke with several NBA executives and scouts for their insight on the prospects for the fourth edition of the aggregate mock draft. The consensus from a majority of NBA talent evaluators is this draft class isn’t as top heavy with franchise-altering talent, but is deep with several potential sleepers to be selected.

“When you look at this draft, you have to drag down a lot of these players and think of them as 20-30 types of picks,” an NBA executive told HoopsHype. “The lottery guys in a normal draft would be 10-30. There are no real top-end lottery guys. If you’re thinking of getting a franchise-altering guy, I’d temper that and try to get a good role player. If you’re drafting at the top of the draft, you should try and get some value for that pick on the trade market.”

NOTE: These rankings reflect the composite score to get a feel for the overall consensus, not our own opinion. For example, if a player was the first pick on a publication’s mock draft, he received 60 points. If a player was second, he received 59 points, and so on. We then tabulated the total number of points for each player’s consensus ranking.

Clippers offseason primer: Paul George, James Harden, Ty Lue, Lawrence Frank, PJ Tucker

Reporting on free agency for Paul George and James Harden, the futures of coach Ty Lue and executive Lawrence Frank, PJ Tucker, and more.

Following the acquisition of James Harden to pair him with the star-studded duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, championship aspirations were bestowed on the Los Angeles Clippers. Instead, six months later, the Clippers are going home after an underwhelming first-round exit thanks to the Dallas Mavericks, and an offseason with many questions begins.

Harden and George will enter unrestricted free agency this summer, the futures of coach Ty Lue and executive Lawrence Frank will be topics of discussion, and other roster moves will be considered.

Below is a preview of the offseason ahead for the Clippers, with reporting from HoopsHype included.

NBA players poll: Who do they pick as basketball’s GOAT?

HoopsHype polled 100 NBA players to determine who is the greatest player ever. Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and others drew votes in the poll.

The Athletic recently released their GOAT poll among active NBA players, which caused much grief in HoopsHype’s headquarters since we had been working on a similar project during the season. Our voter size is similar, with 85 player interviews and another 15 players tallied with their picks via social media or a public interview on the record. However, the results are slightly different, with Michael Jordan getting a bigger gap over LeBron James compared to The Athletic’s poll.

Our GOAT poll also includes a twist. HoopsHype has compiled a detailed breakdown of the players who voted based on their nationality, age, position, salary, star status, whether they have been teammates of LeBron at any point, and the reasoning behind their votes.

The results of our HoopsHype GOAT poll show there’s no clear answer anymore to a debate Jordan would have won clearly a few years ago. Believe it or not, people change their minds. That was the case with Devonte Graham, for example.

“I played for the GOAT, Michael Jordan,” Spurs guard Devonte Graham told HoopsHype. “He paid me. When I played there, he was definitely the GOAT. Once I got traded, it became LeBron.”

Below are the results of the poll and a detailed breakdown of the voting.
