Report: Packers expecting to place Tyler Ervin and Billy Winn on IR

Tavon Austin and Anthony Rush could be important role players with Ervin and Winn out for at least the next 3 weeks.

Two additions made last week suddenly look much more important for the Green Bay Packers.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Packers are expecting to place running back and returner Tyler Ervin and defensive lineman Tyler Ervin on injured reserve. The belief is that Winn will return in three weeks, although the recovery timeline is uncertain for Ervin.

The Packers’ decisions to sign receiver and returner Tavon Austin and claim defensive lineman Anthony Rush off of waivers last week look prudent, and potentially important.

Austin has played all the same roles as Ervin, who suffered his third different injury this season. He hurt his foot against the Philadelphia Eagles and didn’t return. This season, the Packers have used Ervin on returns and as the primary jet motion option on offense, but he’s missed four games with two previous injuries and will now miss at least three more.

Austin was inactive against the Eagles but could play a role both on both offense and special teams on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Rush, a gigantic human being at 6-4 and 361 pounds, may need to play snaps as a rotational defensive lineman with Winn out for at least three games.

Winn, who was on the field for 41 snaps on defense over six games this season, injured his triceps against the Eagles. His batted pass created an interception for Christian Kirksey against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Packers are getting thin along the defensive line with Winn and Montravius Adams both on injured reserve.

If Ervin and Winn are placed on injured reserve, the Packers will have 10 total players on injured reserve.

Packers elevate DL Billy Winn, LB De’Jon Harris from practice squad for Week 4

The Packers added veteran DL Billy Winn and rookie LB De’Jon Harris from the practice squad for Week 4 against the Falcons.

A pair of practice squad elevations will provide depth for the front seven of the Green Bay Packers defense on Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Packers elevated veteran defensive lineman Billy Winn and rookie linebacker De’Jon Harris from the practice squad to the gameday roster for Week 4.

The Packers have injury issues at both positions, with defensive lineman Kenny Clark questionable to play and linebacker Christian Kirksey on injured reserve.

Teams can elevate up to two players from the practice squad each week. An individual player can only be elevated twice. Winn, for instance, has been elevated each of the last two weeks and can no longer be elevated.

Given that both players were elevated for this week, expect both to be active and likely participate in some fashion against the Falcons on Monday night.

Winn, who has played in 69 career games, was on the field for six defensive snaps against the New Orleans Saints last week.

Harris, an undrafted rookie from Arkansas, will be making his NFL debut.

Both players will be assigned back the practice following the conclusion of Monday night’s game.

The Packers also promoted receiver Reggie Begelton, signing him to the 53-man roster on Monday.

Packers elevate DL Billy Winn from practice squad for Week 3

The Packers are elevating veteran DL Billy Winn from the practice squad for Sunday against the Saints.

With Kenny Clark listed as questionable, the Green Bay Packers elevated a veteran defensive lineman from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s meeting with the New Orleans Saints.

The Packers are bringing up Billy Winn, who was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 16, for Week 3.

The Packers will play Alvin Kamara and the Saints on Sunday night and need help along the defensive line, especially if Clark, who is dealing with a groin injury, can’t play.

Winn has played in 68 career games with 23 starts, but he hasn’t played in a regular-season game since 2016. He suffered season-ending injuries during both the 2017 and 2019 seasons.

Winn played for Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine in Cleveland in 2014.

Considering Winn was elevated for Week 3, expect the veteran defensive lineman to be active for Sunday night against the Saints.

Broncos announce 2 roster moves

The Broncos parted ways with two defenders on Thursday.

The Denver Broncos confirmed on Thursday evening that defensive lineman Billy Winn was released and the team announced that cornerback Horace Richardson was waived.

Winn (6-4, 300 pounds) had two different stints in Denver and spent the entire 2017 and 2019 seasons on injured reserve after sitting out the 2018 season. With multiple season-ending injuries, he might have a hard time continuing his career.

Because he is a veteran, Winn is not subject to the NFL’s waiver wire. He is now a free agent.

Richardson (6-0, 190 pounds) spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit  Lions and Kansas City Chiefs before joining the Broncos in 2018. He was competing for a rotational spot in the secondary and a special teams role last summer before suffering a season-ending back injury.

After spending all of last season on injured reserve, Richardson will now enter the league’s waiver wire. If he goes unclaimed, Richardson will become an unrestricted free agent and will be able to sign with any team.

Broncos release DL Billy Winn

The Broncos have released veteran defensive lineman Billy Winn.

So far this offseason, the Broncos have added 16 players via reserve/future contracts and have agreed to trade a fourth-round draft pick for cornerback A.J. Bouye. On Thursday, the team made one of their first cuts of 2020.

Denver has released defensive lineman Billy Winn, ESPN’s Field Yates reported Thursday. Winn (6-4, 300 pounds) is a 30-year-old veteran with five years of experience in the NFL.

Winn entered the league as a sixth-round pick out of Boise State with the Browns in 2012. After spending the first three years of his career in Cleveland, Winn spent one season with the Colts in 2015.

In 2016, Winn signed with the Broncos and he dressed for all 16 games, totaling 19 tackles as a rotational defensive lineman. Winn missed all of the 2017 season with a torn ACL and then sat out the 2018 season.

Last April, Denver brought Winn back to provide more depth on the defensive line. He suffered a triceps injury in August and missed all of the 2019 season as well.

Winn, who hasn’t played in a regular season game since 2016, might have a hard time continuing his career after those injuries.
