New Titans OL coach Bill Callahan: 3 things to know

Three things to know about new Titans OL coach Bill Callahan, who is one of the best in the business.

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon made a massively important hire to the offensive staff with the addition of well-respected offensive line coach Bill Callahan.

The father of Brian, Bill will be tasked with helping in the rebuild of the Titans’ offensive line, which has been one of the worst in the league for the past three seasons.

It isn’t often you see fans and media get hyped for the hiring of an offensive line coach, but there is good reason why that’s the case with Callahan, who is the PERFECT man for the job.

We talk about that and more in our three things to know about Tennessee’s new offensive line coach.

Browns fans react to the news that Bill Callahan is leaving to join his son with Titans

The Browns are in the market as Bill Callahan heads to the Titans to coach with his son. Here is how Browns fans took the news…

The Cleveland Browns are in the market for a new offensive line coach after the news that Bill Callahan would be leaving to join his son with the Tennessee Titans.

The news did not come as a shock though, as Brian Callahan was named the new head coach of the Tennessee Titans. The rumors had been lingering for a while that Bill would like to coach with his son one day. It was good business on the Browns to let him take advantage of this unique opportunity, and good on the Titans for landing the legendary coach.

Finding his replacement will not be easy, but the Browns made the right business move for every party involved. No position coach has ever been traded in NFL history. It does not matter if he was under contract, the Browns would have been doing him a disservice to force him to remain in Cleveland.

Here is how Browns fans took the news of one of the best offensive line coaches in the business walking out the door.

9 potential offensive line coaching candidates as the Browns to replace Bill Callahan

Where will the Browns turn to replace Bill Callahan?

The Cleveland Browns now have to replace Bill Callahan and find a new offensive line coach. Will they look internally at Scott Peters, or will they go for another seasoned coach like Mike Munchak?

Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Thomas has already stated he is not interested in taking any coaching jobs until his kids are in college. This means the Browns will have their work cut out for them as they look to replace one of the best in the business.

They have already replaced their offensive coordinator, hiring Ken Dorsey, their running backs coach, adding Duce Staley, and their tight ends coach, bringing in former Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees to fill that role.

With one position left to fill, how will the Browns look to get the job of replacing a legend done? Here are 10 potential candidates the Browns could target as they look to round out their offensive staff after an offseason of turnover.

Titans make NFL history with hiring of Bill Callahan

The Titans made NFL history with the hiring of Bill Callahan as their offensive line coach.

The Tennessee Titans hiring Bill Callahan as their next offensive line coach, which was reported on Thursday night, is a historic move.

Of course, Bill’s son, Brian Callahan, is the head coach of the Titans, which makes this the first time in league history that a head coach has hired his father to his staff.

Upon Brian landing the Titans gig, the Callahan’s joined an exclusive club. They are the seventh father-son head-coaching duo in league history. Bill was the head coach of the then-Oakland Raiders in 2002-03.

One piece of history Titans fans won’t want to hear is that none of the sons of those duos has ever won a Super Bowl, although San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan will get another crack at it this year.

History aside, this is obviously a huge hire for the Titans. Callahan is a fantastic offensive line coach and the perfect guy to turn this ship around.

Titans Twitter hyped over Bill Callahan hiring

Titans fans and media are rightly hyped about the hiring of Bill Callahan as offensive line coach.

The Tennessee Titans made a massive addition to their coaching staff, as the team is hiring head coach Brian Callahan’s dad, Bill Callahan, as their next offensive line coach.

The news comes from Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer and the hire makes NFL history, as Brian is the first head coach to hire his dad to his staff.

In case you aren’t familiar with Bill Callahan, let me assure you this is not some case of nepotism.

Papa Callahan is one of the most respected offensive line coaches in the league and is an absolute home-run hire, especially for a Titans team that is set to rebuild its entire offensive line, minus one spot (LG Peter Skoronski).

On the surface, Brian Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon are putting together some staff.

Tennessee has also added Tyke Tolbert as wide receivers coach and Dennard Wilson as the defensive coordinator, both of whom were two of the most sought-after candidates for their respective positions.

If you don’t believe me in regard to how huge this hiring is, just take a look at the reaction from Twitter. Titans fans and media were especially hyped for the addition of Callahan to the staff.

Report: Browns OL coach Bill Callahan joining son with Titans

The Browns are now in the market for a new offensive line coach…

This moment has been feared by Cleveland Browns fans as offensive line coach Bill Callahan is joining his son on the Tennessee Titans.

Cleveland dot com’s Mary Kay Cabot has reported that Callahan has received permission from the Browns to interview with the Titans, which is needed to take on a lateral move while under contract. Given the situation of working with his son, Brian (the new head coach in Tennessee), the Browns are not going to stand in the way of Callahan.

As the Browns look for a new offensive line coach, they have Scott Peters already on staff, who has worked under Callahan for four years. The Browns also interviewed former Seattle Seahawks’ offensive line coach Andy Dickerson for their offensive coordinator vacancy. There is a chance they could lure him to come to Cleveland as well.

It is a sad day to see one of the league’s best offensive line coaches leave. But it is now time to move on to his replacement.

Titans hiring Bill Callahan as next OL coach

The Titans are reportedly expected to hire Bill Callahan as their next offensive line coach.

When the Tennessee Titans hired Brian Callahan as their new head coach, the hope was that he would bring his dad and esteemed offensive line coach, Bill Callahan, with him. Well, it appears that’s going to happen.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer, the Titans are hiring Callahan, marking the first time in NFL history that a head coach has hired his father.

This is a massive get for the Titans, as Callahan is considered one of the very best in the business at his job and is the perfect coach to employ to aid in Tennessee’s offensive line rebuild.

As things stand now, Callahan will have a lot of work to do. Tennessee has, at most, one starter locked in for next season in Peter Skoronski, and there’s also a possibility that Callahan will be tasked with bringing along a rookie left tackle if the Titans can land one at No. 8 overall in the 2024 NFL draft.

But if there’s any coach good enough to handle the situation and turn things around, it’s Callahan.

By all accounts, the younger Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon are putting an impressive staff together for 2024.

On top of this hire, the Titans are also adding one of the hotter defensive coordinator candidates in Dennard Wilson, and a highly-touted receivers coach in Tyke Tolbert.

Titans unlikely to land Bill Callahan as OL coach?

It appears the Titans might have a tough time prying OL coach Bill Callahan away from the Browns to pair him with his son.

During the interview process and upon the hiring of Brian Callahan, many have wondered if the new Tennessee Titans head coach will bring his dad, Bill Callahan, with him.

The elder Callahan is one of the best when it comes to offensive line coaches and he would be a massive asset for a Titans team that is set to rebuild its group upfront.

However, the issue with hiring Callahan outright comes from the fact that he’s under contract with the Cleveland Browns, thus they would have to allow him to leave.

According to Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated, the Titans prying Callahan away from the Browns “doesn’t sound like that is going to happen” because the Browns “have been fiercely protective” of Callahan, who is one of the highest-paid assistant coaches in the league.

While it would be cool to reunite Callahan with his father, Bill, the Browns’ offensive line coach, it doesn’t sound like that is going to happen. The Browns have been fiercely protective of Bill in recent years, and he is among the highest-paid assistant coaches in the NFL.

Assuming Callahan wants to coach with his son in the first place, I do find it hard to believe that the Browns wouldn’t oblige if that’s what he wants to do, but crazier things have happened.

The Titans do have another great option if it isn’t Callahan, as former Titans head coach and esteemed offensive line coach, Mike Munchak, is said to be open to returning to the team in that role.

The Titans will be in excellent hands if either Callahan or Munchak are brought in.

Browns now in danger of losing OL coach Bill Callahan to Titans

After the Titans hired Brian Callahan as their next head coach, could OL coach Bill Callahan depart the Browns to join his staff?

The Tennessee Titans have a new head coach, and it’s the son of Bill Callahan, the offensive line coach of the Cleveland Browns.

It has not been a secret that Callahan would like to coach with his son. Bill was open to joining the Cincinnati Bengals’ staff, where Brian was the offensive coordinator. However, head coach Zach Taylor vetoed that move. Now that Brian Callahan can hire his own staff, is the prized possession on Cleveland’s staff in danger of leaving just one year after signing a contract extension with the Browns?

General manager Andrew Berry was asked about the possibility in his press conference, and would not go into any details as the Browns will cross that bridge when it comes.

Two options stand out if Callahan does decide to join his son’s staff. Assistant offensive line coach Scott Peters, known for his technique in mixed martial arts, could step up and take over the role.

However, after re-assigning Pete Carroll, the Seattle Seahawks have allowed their staff to look for other jobs. The Browns interviewed their offensive line coach Andy Dickerson for their offensive coordinator opening. There is reason to believe that the meeting could have been about more than just their vacancy at offensive coordinator.

At this point, however, only time will tell if Callahan is off to Nashville.

The Cleveland Browns could win the AFC’s one-seed in the playoffs

After their Thursday night win over the Jets, the Browns actually have a chance to become the AFC’s one-seed through the playoffs.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

After their 37-20 win over the New York Jets on Thursday night, the 11-5 Cleveland Browns not only clinched their second playoff berth since 2020 (the team had not made the playoffs before that since 2002), but they have an actual shot at the AFC’s one-seed.

Which means that the AFC playoffs might go through Cleveland.

Here’s how it needs to go.

So. If the Browns beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, January 7, and the Baltimore Ravens lose to the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Dolphins lose to the Buffalo Bills? Yeah. The Dawg Pound will be home base.

As Chase Daniel said, this is wild. The Browns currently have a league-high 26% of their salary cap on injured reserve, they’ve turned Joe Flacco into Kurt Warner, and the guys they were without due to injury against the Jets was… well, remarkable.

If Kevin Stefanski doesn’t win Coach of the Year, there should be an immediate recount.
