Nebraska volleyball remains undefeated with win over Michigan State

The Huskers move to 14-0 on the season and will take on Michigan tomorrow night.

Husker volleyball took another multi-match trip to a midwestern state, traveling to Michigan for a couple of conference showdowns. Their first of two matches, a clash with Michigan State. The Spartans split the first two sets with Nebraska, winning the second set 25-16. But the Huskers came off the intermission on fire and weren’t extinguished, taking the match in four sets (25-23, 16-25, 25-15, 25-11).

Nebraska finished the match with 39 kills off 113 attacks for a hitting percentage of .168. A squad of Huskers delivered the majority of the offensive stats in the win, combining for 37 kills off 101 attacks.

Freshman Harper Murray led the Huskers in the match as their only player to hit double-digits in kills, finishing with 12 off 34 attacks. Juniors Merritt Beason and Lindsay Krause both put up nine kills and combined for 52 attacks. Freshman Andi Jackson rounded out the big offensive stats for Nebraska, finishing the match with seven kills off 12 attacks.

Freshman setter Bergen Reilly also contributed to the offensive effort, putting up 29 assists in the win. On defense, libero Lexi Rodriguez led the team in digs with 13.

The Huskers move to 14-0 on the season and will take on Michigan Friday night. The match is set for 7:30 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

The Nebraska volleyball team wrapped up its two-day trip to Indiana with a Saturday night showdown against the Indiana Hoosiers.

The Nebraska volleyball team wrapped up its two-day trip to Indiana with a Saturday night showdown against the Indiana Hoosiers. The Hoosiers had a strong front, winning the first set and hanging with Nebraska in the second set.

But after the Huskers won the second set, they never looked back, winning the following two sets and the match (23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-19). Nebraska is now 13-0, making it the best start to the season for the team since 2008.

The Huskers dominated in the match offensively, finishing with 65 kills, 22 more than Indiana, despite each team delivering nearly the same amount of attacks. Merritt Beason and freshman Harper Murray combined for 39 kills off 73 attacks and 17 digs. Beason finished as Nebraska’s leader in kills with a career-high 22 in the match.

Freshman Bergen Reilly surpassed 50 assists in a match once again, reaching 53 in the win. Libero Lexi Rodriguez led the defense, finishing with 18 total digs.

The team’s next match will be on the road in East Lansing, Michigan, to face off against Michigan State on Friday night. The match is set for 6:00 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.

Nebraska volleyball kicked off the first of four straight road matches with a trip to West Lafayette, Indiana, to take on No. 17 Purdue on Friday night. For the first time this season, the Huskers’ went to a full five sets (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 15-12) to move to 12-0 on the season.

The match saw a total of 314 attacks in a five-set faceoff, with Nebraska standing at 161 while Purdue put up 153. But while each team’s total attacks were within single digits of each other, their total kills weren’t. The Huskers racked up 74 total kills in the win, while Purdue finished with 60.

Freshman Harper Murray and Merritt Beason finished one and two in kills and attacks for Nebraska, combining for 40 kills off 90 attacks. The duo also combined for 19 digs and seven blocks. Freshman Bergen Reilly finished as the team’s leader in assists with 54. She also put up 12 digs and five kills off nine attacks. Finally, freshman Laney Choboy led the team in digs, providing 14 on the night.

With the Huskers at 12-0, another win will give them the best start since 2008. Nebraska will remain in Indiana as it travels to Bloomington to face the Hoosiers Saturday night. The match is set for 6:00 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Nebraska dominated Ohio State throughout the night, holding it 27 kills off 89 attacks for a hitting percentage of .090. The Huskers, meanwhile, put up 42 kills off 93 attacks for a hitting percentage of .333. They also finished the match with 37 digs and 11 blocks.

Merritt Beason and Harper Murray led the way in Nebraska’s win, both on offense and defense. The duo combined for 25 kills off 50 attacks and 17 digs. Bergen Reilly once again led the Huskers in assists, finishing the match with 37.

This commanding performance by Nebraska gave them the early advantage, as it went up 2-0 by holding Ohio State to just 30 combined points. Though the Buckeyes stuck with the Huskers throughout a majority of the third set, the Huskers managed to pull away to complete their seventh sweep of the season.

Nebraska will remain home for the weekend as it welcomes No. 12 Minnesota. The match is set for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and can be viewed on Big Ten Network.

It was a big Tuesday night for the No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team.

It was a big Tuesday night for the No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team. After starting off the season with a 7-0 record, the Huskers traveled west for their first major test of 2023, No. 5 Stanford. Nebraska last beat the Cardinal back in 2008, losing the last five meetings.

This time around, the Huskers emerged victorious, taking down Stanford 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 19-25, 25-21) in California, a first in school history. The win was well earned as the stats were nearly even for the match, with Nebraska getting a slight advantage.

The Huskers finished the night with 52 kills, 16 attack errors, 38 digs, 11 blocks and an attack percentage of .333. Stanford finished with 48 kills, 22 attack errors, 30 digs, eight blocks and an attack percentage of .218.

Florida transfer Merritt Beason and freshman Harper Murray led the way for Nebraska offensively. Beason finished with 15 kills off 33 attacks for an attack percentage of .273. Murray also hit double-digit kills, racking up 12 off 24 attacks for an attack percentage of .417. Murray even finished the match with three service aces.

Freshman Bergen Reilly led the way in assists for the Huskers, finishing with 37 in the win. Lexi Rodriguez finished with the team in digs, snatching 12 on the night. Another notable performance was from middle blocker Bekka Allick, who finished with a team-high eight blocks, along with seven kills off 12 attacks.

Nebraska now moves to 8-0 on the season, their best start since 2016. The Huskers will conclude their non-conference portion of the season on Sunday when they return home and face off against No. 22 Kentucky. The match is set for 6:30 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

The No. 4 Nebraska volleyball team continued its home stretch by welcoming Long Beach State to Lincoln. The Huskers, however, also welcomed back former Husker assistant coach Tyler Hildebrand, who is in his second year as head coach of the Beach. But the welcome was capped by Nebraska’s sweep of their opponent (25-18, 25-8, 25-21).

The Huskers dominated throughout the,e match finishing with 21 more kills than LBS. The second set saw Nebraska win by a score of 25-8. This is the second straight match the Huskers held a team to single digits in a set.

Once again, all the newcomers led the charge for Nebraska in the win. Freshman Harper Murray, freshman Andi Ja,ckson and Florida transfer Merritt Beason combined for 27 kills off 50 attacks. Freshman Bergen Reilly also delivered another big night, finishing the match with team highs in set assists (32) and digs (8).

The Huskers improved to 7-0 on the season with the win. Their next match will see them travel west to face off against No. 5 Stanford. The match is set for 8 p.m. on Tuesday and can be viewed on ESPN.

Nebraska dominated in the first half of the match, wiping out Creighton 50-22 in total points. However, the Bluejays came out of the break swinging, winning the third set and nearly forcing a fifth set, like they did last year. Creighton did beat Nebraska in total attacks 128-118, but the Huskers won nearly every other stat.

Merritt Beason led the way for Nebraska in kills, finishing with 17 kills off 37 total attacks. Freshman Bergen Reilly delivered another big performance at setter, putting up 42 set assists, 11 digs and two service aces. On defense, Lexi Rodriguez put up 14 digs. Another notable standout was freshman Andi Jackson, who finished with six blocks and had five kills off 15 attacks.

The Huskers remain undefeated, improving their record to 6-0 on the season. The team will stay home heading into the weekend as it will play host to Long Beach State. The match is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. and can be viewed on Nebraska Public Media and B1G+.

Nebraska finished the match with 42 kills off 101 attacks, 38 of which came from the squad of Merritt Beason, freshman Andi Jackson, Lindsay Krause, and freshman Harper Murray.

Beason and Jackson finished in double-digits with kills, each snatching ten kills in the match. Meanwhile, Krause and Murray were behind them, each finishing with nine kills in the win.

On the defensive side, freshman Bergen Reilly led the way, earning 12 digs in the win. She also led the team in assists, finishing with 29.

The Huskers are now 5-0 on the season and will return home to host Creighton. The match is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Volleyball Day in Nebraska ends with a new world record for the Huskers

It was perhaps one of the biggest days in volleyball history, Volleyball Day in Nebraska.

It was perhaps one of the biggest days in volleyball history, Volleyball Day in Nebraska. After Wayne State and Nebraska-Kearney played earlier in the day, the Nebraska volleyball team faced off against Omaha in front of a record crowd at Memorial Stadium.

Not only did the Huskers walk away with a win, but they also walked away with the Women’s Sporting Event World Record. Memorial Stadium saw a grand total of 92,003 in attendance to watch Nebraska face down the Mavericks.

This surpassed the previous world record of 91,648, which came in a UEFA Champions League match between Barcelona and Wolfsburg on April 22, 2022, at Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain. The previous record for an American women’s sporting event was 90,185 in the USA’s FIFA World Cup Final against China on July 10, 1999, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

The Huskers also shattered a pair of NCAA records with this match – the previous records for any NCAA volleyball match and an NCAA volleyball regular-season match.

Entering Wednesday night, the largest-ever crowd for any NCAA volleyball match was 18,755 when Nebraska played Wisconsin in the NCAA Final in Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 18, 2021. The largest NCAA volleyball regular-season attendance was 16,833 when Wisconsin hosted Florida in Madison, Wisconsin., on Sept 16, 2022.

The Huskers are now 4-0 on the season and will hit the road for their first road match of the season against Kansas State. The match is set for Sunday at 4 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+.
