Tyler Warren named Big Ten offensive player of the week

Tyler Warren adds another weekly Big Ten honor to his name after a big game against Purdue.

For the second time this season, Penn Stater tight end [autotag]Tyler Warren[/autotag] was named the Big Ten’s offensive player of the week.

Warren caught eight passes for 127 yards and a touchdown in Penn State’s road win at Purdue. It was Warren’s fourth 100-yard game to tie the school record for a tight end previously set by Ted Kwalick. His touchdown was also the 16th touchdown reception of his career to tie Pat Freiermuth’s school record for a tight end. Warren now has the most 100-yard games in a single season by a Penn State tight end in school history, and the most in a single season by any player since Jahan Dotson had five in the 2021 season.

Warren also rushed for a team-high 63 yards with a 48-yard touchdown run in the mix. According to the Big Ten, Warren is the only tight end in conference history with four rushing touchdowns in a single season.

Warren was previously named offensive player of the week by the Big Ten following his monster performance earlier this season against USC.

Other players receiving weekly Big Ten honors for this past weekend included Oregon linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei and Washington defensive lineman Russell Davis II sharing defensive player of the week, Oregon kicker Atticus Sappington being named special teams player of the week, and Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr. being the Big Ten’s freshmen of the week.

Tyler Warren and Penn State will be back on the road this week for a game at Minnesota. The Nittany Lions opened as a two-touchdown favorite against the Gophers.

Penn State punter Barney Amor receives weekly Big Ten honor for first time.

One of Penn State’s breakout heroes this season has been punter [autotag]Barney Amor[/autotag]. Amor, who has been a model of consistency this season on special teams, was finally honored by the Big Ten for his performance on the field. As Lizzo would say, it’s about damn time.

In a rainy game against Northwestern, Amor punted five times with an average of 40.0 yards per punt, Four of his five punts landed inside the 20-yard line, with three downed inside the 10-yard line. Here are this week’s Big Ten players of the week:

Big Ten honors Penn State duo with weekly honors

Two Penn State players honored with Big Ten weekly honors after a big road win at Auburn

For the second week in a row, Penn State freshman running back [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. And he wasn’t the only Nittany Lion picking up a weekly honor from the Big Ten on Monday. Senior safety [autotag]Ji’Ayir Brown[/autotag] was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following his big performance in Penn State’s road win at Auburn.

Brown played a key role as Penn State’s defense forced four Auburn turnovers in Week 3. Brown had a hand in them with a forced fumble and an interception. Brown also had four solo tackles and a sack in the game as Penn State’s defense slammed the door shut on Auburn after halftime.

This is the second time Brown has been named a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week during his career. He received the weekly honor last season following his performance against Maryland.

Brown became the first Penn State player since [autotag]Saquon Barkley[/autotag] in 2015 to be named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week in back-to-back weeks. He earned it after rushing for 124 yards and two touchdowns against Auburn. Singleton had runs of 54 and 53 yards in the game and already has five runs of 40+ yards this season. Singleton has also eclipsed a previous mark set by Barkley with 334 rushing yards in his first three games of a season, breaking Barkley’s mark of 311 yards to start the 2015 season.

A Penn State player has won a Big Ten weekly award after each of its first three games this season. Quarterback [autotag]Sean Clifford[/autotag] was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week after the season opener at Purdue. Singleton was the freshman of the week after Week 2.

Here are this week’s Big Ten Players of the Week;

  • Offensive Player of the Week: C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State
  • Defensive Player of the Week: Ji’Ayir Brown, S, Penn State
  • Special Teams Player of the Week: Charles Campbell, PK, Indiana
  • Freshman of the Week: Nick Singleton, RB, Penn State

Nick Singleton earns first career Big Ten weekly honor

The Big Ten handed out a weekly honor to Penn State RB Nick Singleton

It did not take long for Penn State freshman running back [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] to start building his resume with the Nittany Lions. Following a terrific performance against Ohio in Week 2, Singleton was honored by the Big Ten with the conference’s weekly football awards.

Singleton was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for Week 2. Singleton rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns, with each touchdown run going for more than 40 yards. Singleton snapped Penn State’s streak of games without a 100-yard rusher in a single game.

Penn State has now had at least one player honored by the Big Ten in each of the first two games of the season. Quarterback [autotag]Sean Clifford[/autotag] shared offensive player of the week honors following Week 1 with Nebraska running back Anthony Grant.

Singleton is the first Penn State player to be named Freshman of the Week by the Big Ten since [autotag]Joey Porter Jr.[/autotag] received the honor following the final game of the 2020 season.

Here are this week’s Big Ten Players of the Week for Week 2;

  • Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland, QB
  • Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Marvine Harrison Jr., Ohio State, WR
  • Defensive Player of the Week: Jacoby Windmon, Michigan State, DE/LB
  • Special Teams Player of the Week: Lukas Van Ness, Iowa, DT
  • Freshman of the Week: Nick Singleton, Penn State, RB

Singleton and Penn State head to Auburn in Week 3 for a highly-anticipated rematch of last year’s nonconference matchup in Happy Valley.

Sean Clifford earns share of Big Ten weekly honor

Sean Clifford honored by the Big Ten for his Week 1 performance against Purdue

After guiding Penn State to a thrilling victory in Week 1, Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford has been named Big Ten co-offensive player of the week by the Big Ten Conference. The Big Ten released its first player of the week honors on Monday, following the conclusion of the first full weekend of college football.

Clifford completed 20-of-37 pass attempts for 282 yards and four touchdown passes in the Thursday night win at Purdue. Clifford also ran for another touchdown, officially having a hand in all five touchdowns scored by Penn State in the season opener. And Penn State needed every one of those scores as they left West Lafayette with a 35-31 victory over the Boilermakers.

This is the third time Clifford has been recognized as an offensive player of the week by the Big Ten in his career. Clifford previously was recognized once in 2021 and once in 2019.

The last Penn State player to be named offensive player of the week by the Big Ten was wide receiver [autotag]Jahan Dotson[/autotag] on November 8, 2021.

Clifford shared the Big Ten offensive player of the week award for Week 1 with Nebraska running back Anthony Grant. Grant rushed for 189 yards and two touchdowns in Nebraska’s win over North Dakota in Week 2. With the benefit of already having played two games this season, Grant is currently the Big Ten’s second-leading rusher in 2022.

Here are this week’s Big Ten Week 1 players of the week:

  • Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Sean Clifford, Penn State, QB
  • Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Anthony Grant, Nebraska, RB
  • Defensive Player of the Week: Jacoby Windmon, Michigan State, DE/LB
  • Special Teams Player of the Week: Tory Taylor, Iowa, P
  • Freshman of the Week: Roman Hemby, Maryland, RB
