PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers football dropped their Big Ten opener on Saturday night, 27-10 to Iowa. But it was an impressive atmosphere as the Scarlet Knights hosted one of the top teams in the conference.
The announced crowd of 53,117 was the fifth-largest in SHI Stadium history. With the loss, Rutgers is now 3-1 (0-1 Big Ten). Iowa improves to 3-1 (1-0 Big Ten).
Three turnovers on offense, including two in the first half that resulted in Iowa’s defense scoring two touchdowns, staked the Hawkeyes to a 17-3 lead at halftime.
“I want to thank our fans. That was a great turnout, great atmosphere,” Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano said after the game.
“That’s something to be seen in the future. Just wish we could have performed better. But we’re just not quite ready to do that yet in that environment, as when you’re ready, you do it. We just weren’t able to quite execute every job to the point where we put it together. So go back to work.”
