Big Ten reportedly not interested in adding pair of premier ACC programs

If the Big Ten is looking to expand again, it apparently will not include a pair of premier ACC programs

If the Big Ten is looking to expand again, it apparently will not include a pair of premier ACC programs.

College football insider and radio host Greg Swaim is reporting that the Big Ten and SEC are not interested in either Florida State or Clemson as potential future members of their leagues. Swaim posted that “conversations have all but ceased” between the two leagues and Florida State and Clemson.

The Big 12 is apparently the new expected landing spot for both the Seminoles and Tigers.

Both Florida State and Clemson had been considered favorites to join the Big Ten or SEC in the next batch of realignment. However, it sounds like that will not be the case and both leagues may be happy sticking with their current allotment of teams.

Who’s next for the Big Ten? Ranking schools the league may consider if expansion continues

If the Big Ten were to continue expanding, who would they most likely consider adding to the league?

Who’s next for the Big Ten?

That’s the million (well, billion) dollar question after the Big Ten and Big 12 made splashes last week in conference realignment. The Big Ten added Oregon and Washington, while the Big 12 has added Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado in the past few weeks. These moves have left the Pac-12 down to just four schools (Stanford, Cal, Oregon State and Washington State) and have once again shifted the landscape of college athletics — most notably football.

But are is the Big Ten done? The league will be up to 18 schools next fall with the additions of USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington, and many are speculating whether or not the conference will look to further expand or stay at 18.

I personally believe the conference will at least reach 20 schools so that means it’s time to take a look at who could be those two (or maybe more) schools for the Big Ten. Check out my rankings below for who I believe the Big Ten will consider if further expansion is in the cards for the league:

Wild rumor suggests Big Ten could add Clemson, Oregon, others by end of this week

Could the Big Ten again shock the world with a big-time expansion move?

Could you imagine a world that has Florida State, Clemson, Oregon and Washington in the Big Ten? That’s apparently a possibility.

Jack McGuire of Barstool Sports’ Unnecessary Roughness podcast has stated the Big Ten “will add Washington, Oregon, FSU, and Clemson this week.” That’s a pretty wild statement but would be a lot of fun if it’s true.

The college football world is in the midst of realignment yet again with Colorado electing to leave the Pac-12 for the Big 12. There is smoke around others leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 12 as well — including Arizona, Arizona State and Utah.

Washington and Oregon have long been considered candidates for the Big Ten, but there has been no indication that either would be coming any time soon. The addition of both of those schools plus Florida State and Clemson before the end of this week seems highly unlikely — but then again who knows these days…
