UFC on ESPN+ 39: Kevin Holland vs. Charlie Ontiveros odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 39 fight between Kevin Holland and Charlie Ontiveros, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight bout on the main card, Kevin Holland and Charlie Ontiveros meet at UFC on ESPN+ 39 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX facility in Las Vegas. The early prelims kick off at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 7 p.m. ET, also on ESPN+.

Holland (19-5) enters this match with a 5.5-inch advantage in reach over his counterpart, and he also has a 56.09-to-41.19 advantage in significant strikes accuracy percentage. In takedown average, he also is ahead 0.96 to 0.51, and 36.84 to 25.00 in takedown accuracy percentage. The kung fu style fighter has rattled off three consecutive victories since being submitted by Brendan Allen on Oct. 18, 2019. He has a pair of KO/TKO wins and a split-decision victory over Darren Stewart last time out Sept. 19, 2020. Three of his past four bouts have finished inside the distance.

Originally, this fight was going to be Holland vs. Makhmud Muradov, as Holland replaced an injured Krzysztof Jotko. Holland stepped in for Jotko, now Ontiveros (11-6) steps in on short notice for Muradov, who has pulled out for an undisclosed reason.

Ontiveros will make his UFC debut. His past two fights have resulted in KO/TKO victories, and each of his past five fights have finished via knockout – winning three and losing two. Each of his past six fights have finished inside the distance, too.

Holland (-770) is the overwhelming favorite in this one, but you can’t risk nearly eight times your potential return, even if Ontiveros (+525) is making his UFC debut. Let’s get more specific on a winning ticket with much less risk.

The favorite is a devastating puncher, so taking HOLLAND BY KO/TKO OR DQ (-167) is a much better way to go. In addition, roll with UNDER 1.5 ROUNDS (-189), as Holland should make the debut bout of Ontiveros at the UFC level a very short one.

UFC on ESPN+ 39: Bobby Green vs. Thiago Moises odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 39 fight between Bobby Green vs. Thiago Moises, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a lightweight bout on the main card, Bobby Green and Thiago Moises meet at UFC on ESPN+ 39 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX facility in Las Vegas. The early prelims kick off at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 7 p.m. ET, also on ESPN+.

Green (27-10-1) is a heavy favorite over Moises (13-4) in the first bout on the main card. Physically, they’re very similar, as Green has just a one-inch height advantage and reach advantage. However, Green will throw a lot more punches, as he has a 5.13 to 2.68 significant strikes landed per minute advantage, and he is ahead in landing those strikes, too, leading 51.48 to 43.62 in significant strikes-accuracy percentage. While Moises does have a 1.64 to 0.36 submission average advantage, Green leads 1.53 to 1.10 in takedown average and 39.62 to 28.57 in takedown-accuracy percentage, too. However, since Moises is a strong wrestler with six submission wins and no tap out losses in 17 career fights, Green might not be as keen to get the fight to the canvas as he normally would be.

Moises is coming off a submission win over Michael Johnson on May 13 in Jacksonville, but three of his past four fights have gone the distance. However, he is just 2-2 at the UFC level, and he looked a bit overwhelmed in a UD loss to Beneil Dariush in his debut on Nov. 10, 2018, on the Korean Zombie-Rodriguez card.

As far as Green is concerned, “King” has been the top dog in unanimous decisions lately. He has three straight victories, all by UD, and each of his past six have been unanimous decisions, with four wins and a pair of setbacks. Eight straight fights for Green have gone the distance, and 11 of his past 12 have needed the judges.

Green (-313) is a bit of a risky pick on the 2-way fight result line. I wouldn’t like risking that kind of money for such a little return anyway, but the fact he relies upon the judges for victories is always a dangerous proposition. Sometimes they don’t always see what we see, even when it seems obvious.

The best play here is YES (-223): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? as Green just hasn’t been finishing fights inside the distance lately. It’s a better value than Over 2.5 Rounds (-250).  Playing GREEN ON POINTS (-139) is also a nice play without as much risk as the two-way line, although you lose if he submits or knocks out his opponent. There is just such a strong sample size that will not be happening, however.

UFC on ESPN+ 39: Maurice Greene vs. Greg Hardy odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 39 fight between Maurice Greene and Greg Hardy, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a heavyweight bout on the main card, Maurice Greene and Greg Hardy meet at UFC on ESPN+ 39 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX facility in Las Vegas. The early prelims kick off at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 7 p.m. ET, also on ESPN+.

Greene (9-5) has had mixed results at the UFC level, but the fight is generally always short and exciting. His past two fights have resulted in submissions, with a win over Gian Villante June 27, and a loss to Aleksei Oleinik before that. Before those two bouts, he split a pair of first-round KO/TKOs. In fact, six of his past seven professional bouts have finished inside the distance. His preference is to get the fight to the ground, as half of his 14 pro bouts have ended via submission, going 5-2.

Hardy (6-2) is coming off an impressive unanimous-decision win over Yorgan De Castro last time out on the UFC 249 card May 9 in Jacksonville, Fla. His past two fights have each gone the distance after a no contest and six bouts ending inside the distance. That’s to be expected when facing more talented opponents who won’t simply eat a punch and crumple to the ground, but understand how to handle it and move along. Over time, Hardy will need to do more than just brawl to be successful. However, against Greene, his old strategy should be sufficient.

Maurice Greene vs. Greg Hardy betting odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

Hardy (-334) is expected to mow over Mo Greene (+260) here, but you can’t bet the 2-way line and risk more than three times your potential return. Instead, look to HARDY BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (-134) on the 5-way line for a much better value. Yes, his past two fights have ended up going to the judges’ cards, but he isn’t a fighter who likes to go deep into the night, and Greene isn’t quite in the same class as Villante or Oleinik, who took him the distance.

If Hardy comes out swinging, he could end this one rather early. In his five professional knockout victories, the former Dallas Cowboys pass rusher has won all five in the first round. As such, take a chance on UNDER 1.5 ROUNDS (-110). Betting NO (-250) ON ‘WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?’ is a little expensive for my tastes, but should be a winner, too.

UFC on ESPN+ 39: Andre Fili vs. Bryce Mitchell odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 39 fight between Andre Fili and Bryce Mitchell, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a featherweight bout on the main card, Andre Fili and Bryce Mitchell meet at UFC on ESPN+ 39 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX facility in Las Vegas. The early prelims kick off at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 7 p.m. ET, also on ESPN+.

Fili (21-7) checks into the octagon standing one inch taller than his counterpart, while he has a four-inch reach advantage. He also has a 3.90 significant strikes landed per minute to just 2.05 for Mitchell (13-1), although the latter is much better with a 59.76 to 36.38 significant strikes-accuracy percentage. Both fighters look for takedowns, too, with Fili edging Mitchell 2.71 to 2.13 in takedown average, but Mitchell is much more efficient with a 2.74 submission average to just 0.18 for Fili.

Mitchell is 3-0 since making his UFC debut, including an impressive unanimous-decision win over Charles Rosa at UFC 249 last time out. Two of his three fights at the UFC level, and four of his past six pro fights overall have ended up going the distance. If he is able to get it to the canvas, he is 9-1 via submission in his 14 career professional bouts, and the rear-naked choke and triangle choke are his specialties.

The veteran Fili bounced back from a disappointing unanimous-decision loss to Sodiq Yusuff at UFC 246, posting a split-decision win over Charles Jourdain on June 13 in his most recent outing. He has won three of his past four bouts, and eight of his past nine fights have ended up being decided by the judges’ cards.

Andre Fili vs. Bryce Mitchell betting odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 7:28 a.m. ET.

MITCHELL (-152) is a solid play straight up on the 2-way fight result line, as he won’t cost you a ton. He has been strong since arriving at the UFC level, and “Thug Nasty” will be especially pumped wearing his camo shorts into the octagon. As long as he can avoid the big punch from Fili (+125), who has won 43 percent of his pro fights by knockout, Mitchell will be in good shape.

Getting more specific, playing MITCHELL BY KO/TKO, DQ or SUBMISSION (+187) pays well. He has registered four total takedowns in his past two fights, and he’ll look to get Fili off his feet as soon as possible. Mitchell will try to velcro himself to Fili and control on the ground as much as possible. And since you’re going with Mitchell inside the distance, take UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+117) for a nice value.

UFC on ESPN+ 39: Uriah Hall vs. Anderson Silva odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 39 fight between Uriah Hall and Anderson Silva, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight bout in the main event, Uriah Hall and Anderson Silva meet at UFC on ESPN+ 39 Saturday at the UFC’s APEX facility in Las Vegas. The early prelims kick off at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+, followed by the main card set for 7 p.m. ET, also on ESPN+.

Hall (16-9) steps into the octagon two inches shorter than his 45-year-old counterpart Silva (34-10), who will be fighting in his final bout. Hall does enter with a 2.5-inch reach advantage. He heads into this one with a split-decision win over Antonio Carlos Junior last time out on Sept. 14, 2019. He was expected to meet Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza at UFC 249 in April, but a positive test for COVID-19 for Souza scrapped that fight. He was to then face Yoel Romero in August, but the latter was forced out due to injury. So he’ll be chomping at the bit to get back into the cage, and he won’t have any reservations about sending Silva (34-10) into retirement with an L.

It will be sad to see “The Spider” go, as he has been a tremendous fighter over his career. But it’s probably time. He enters with just one win in his past eight outings, a unanimous-decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208 on Feb. 11, 2017. He was knocked out by Jared Cannonier at UFC 237 in his most recent showing. It would be a storybook performance for Silva to end his career with his hand raised, but it’s not going to happen.

Uriah Hall vs. Anderson Silva betting odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 7:15 a.m. ET.

Playing Hall (-223) straight up on the 2-way fight result line is a little expensive, and posting more than two times your potential return is just too risky. So be a little more pinpoint with your wagers.

Silva has been knocked out in three of his past eight bouts, while Hall has won two of his past four via KO/TKO, so that’s the way to go. Take HALL BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+160) on the 5-way line, as it’s a much more lucrative option.

The thing with Hall’s fights, they haven’t ended particularly early. He has been to the second or third round, even when finishing inside the distance, in each of his past four outings. Bet on HALL IN ROUND 3 (+1000) and HALL IN ROUND 4 (+1400), as well as HALL IN ROUND 5 (+2200), to win. Yes, you will lose two of these three wagers. But if Hall wins in Round 3-5, you’ll still be well ahead. We saw this type of hedge bet strategy cash in the Lauren Murphy fight on the last card. It works. In addition, simply play NO (-122) ON ‘WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?’, as it’s unlikely the judges will need to get involved here.
