UFC 257: Andrew Sanchez vs. Makhmud Muradov odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC 257 fight between Andrew Sanchez and Makhmud Muradov, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Andrew Sanchez and Makhmud Muradov meet at UFC 257 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The early prelims and prelims kick off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, followed by the main card on Pay-Per-View at 10 p.m. ET.

Sanchez (13-5) and Muradov (24-6) were a late addition to the main card, and this bout adds to the pay-per-view. It should be a good one. Originally Sanchez was to face Andre Muniz, but he is out due to injury. So Muradov steps in on the short notice.

Sanchez is coming off a Round 1 KO/TKO win against Wellington Turman last time out on Aug. 8, 2020, at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Prior to that each of his past three outings went the distance, with two victories and a loss to Marvin Vettori. “El Dirte” is just 3-3 over his past six pro bouts, with two KO/TKO losses and the UD setback to Vettori.

Muradov, who is a protege of boxer Floyd Mayweather, heads in one inch taller with a slight 1.5-inch reach advantage. He also has a 4.97 to 4.57 significant strikes landed per minute advantage, although Sanchez is slightly more accurate at 44.03 to 41.19 percent.

The Uzbekistani fighter has only appeared in two fights under the UFC banner, winning by unanimous decision over Alessio Di Chircio on Sept. 28, 2019, and KO/TKO over Trevor Smith in his most decent fight Dec. 7, 2019, at UFC on ESPN 7.

Muradov has had some tough luck lately. His lengthy absence from the octagon isn’t due to his own injuries, but four canceled fights due to injuries to others.

Sanchez vs. Muradov: Betting odds, predictions and picks

MURADOV (-145) has been eager to get back into the octagon to continue his ascent in the division. He’ll get a chance to shine on the main card, introducing himself to many fight fans who might not be familiar with his name. He is a strong play on the 2-way line, and the fight isn’t terribly ridiculous, as Sanchez (+120) has been rather ordinary over his past six.

Sanchez is a step up in competition for Muradov, but even so, MURADOV BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (+165) is a good play at plus-money. As such, if you’re going to bet that, you have to look to UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+125) for a good value play, too. It’s a better wager than the 50-50 bet on ‘Will the fight go the distance?’, with both ends offered at -110.

And if you like to roll the dice a little, target a two-round block and take MURADOV IN ROUND 2 (+600) and MURADOV IN ROUND 3 (+1500). Yes, you would lose one of those wagers, but if he wins in either round you will be well in the black.

UFC 257: Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC 257 fight between Jessica Eye and Joanne Calderwood, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a women’s flyweight bout on Saturday’s main card, Jessica Eye and Joanne Calderwood meet at UFC 257 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The early prelims and prelims kick off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, followed by the main card on Pay-Per-View at 10 p.m. ET.

Eye (15-8) will be fighting for the first time since a unanimous-decision setback against Cynthia Calvillo in the main event on June 13, 2020, at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas.

Two of her past three bouts have ended in losses, but a main event loss to Calvillo and second-round KO/TKO setback to Valentina Shevchenko in a title bout at UFC 238 are anything but embarrassing. Eye is still one of the top fighters in this division. Nine of her past 10 fights have ended up going the distance.

Calderwood (14-5) will be looking to rain blows onto Eye from the jump. She enters the octagon with a 6.17 to 3.65 advantage in significant strikes landed per minute, and a 48.03 to 36.39 significant strikes accuracy percentage advantage, too. In addition, Calderwood enjoys going to the canvas, too, leading 1.90 to 0.40 in takedown average, and 57.69 to 45.45 in takedown accuracy percentage.

Calderwood is champing at the bit to get back at it after being tapped out by Jennifer Maia last time out on Aug. 1, 2020. She has ended up going the distance in three of her past four outings.

CALDERWOOD (-120) has an advantage in all of the major stats over Eye (+100), and it’s a good bet to back the Scottish fighter on the 2-way line. An even better, based upon Eye’s penchant for going the distance, is backing CALDERWOOD ON POINTS (+130). This could be a rather slow, deliberate fight if Calderwood cannot surprise Eye early.

Based upon Eye going the distance in nine of her past 10 fights, the distance odds are rather extreme. Yes (-300) on ‘Will the fight go the distance?’ is just too expensive, although it’s probably a good bet to happen. It’s just too rich for my blood.

UFC 257: Julianna Pena vs. Sara McMann odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s UFC 257 fight between Julianna Pena and Sara McMann, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and predictions.

In a women’s bantamweight bout on Saturday’s preliminary card, Julianna Pena and Sara McMann meet at UFC 257 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The early prelims and prelims kick off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, followed by the main card on Pay-Per-View at 10 p.m. ET.

Pena (10-4) is looking to rebound after a loss to Germaine de Randamie last time out on Oct. 3, 2020. That loss was via submission in Round 3, and she has lost two of the past three bouts overall.

Since arriving at the UFC level, she has won four of six fights overall, and been featured in the main event once on Jan. 28, 2017. Five of her past eight fights have finished inside the distance, too. She enters with 2.80 significant strikes landed per minute, with a 47.36 significant strikes accuracy percentage. She also holds a three-inch reach advantage over her counterpart.

McMann (12-5) was on a two-bout skid before a unanimous decision victory over Lina Lansberg on Jan. 25, 2020. Like Pena, McMann’s previous two losses each came via submission, so neither of the combatants will likely be too keen to go to the canvas.

However, McMann is a wrestler, and four of her past five fights have ended via submission (2-2). Seven of her previous 11 bouts have ended up finishing inside the distance.

Pena vs. McMann: Betting odds, predictions and picks

PENA (+110) is a nice value at plus-money, as McMann (-130) just doesn’t seem to be hitting on all cylinders lately. Yes, Pena has two losses in the past three outings, too, but losses against de Randamie and Valentina Shevchenko, two of the top fighters in the division, is nothing to be ashamed about. Back “The Venezuelan Vixen” on the 2-way line.

I think that the submission losses for both fighters recently will have them a little leery about going to the mat in this bout. We might get a bit of a sluggish, slow-paced bout with each fighter playing it close to the vest.

As such, YES (-190) ON ‘WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE?’ is a little pricey, but a strong bet. Taking PENA ON POINTS (+240) is a decent value, too, as you can more than double up and build up your bankroll for the main card.
