The New York Mets (15-16) and New York Yankees (16-13) play the third game of a five-game set Saturday. First pitch at Yankee Stadium is set for 1:05 p.m. ET. We analyze the Mets-Yankees betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Mets at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Robert Gsellman vs. LHP J.A. Happ

Gsellman: 0-0, 7.71 ERA, 2.143 WHIP, 4 K, 2 BB, 4 2/3 IP, 2 starts, one relief appearance

  • Has allowed eight hits but just one home run.
  • Last pitched 1 2/3 innings as an opener in an 11-4 Mets win over the Miami Marlins Aug. 17.

Happ: 1-1, 6.39 ERA, 1.579 WHIP, 6 K, 10 BB, 12 2/3 IP, 3 starts

  • The walks are an obvious red flag and equate to a 7.1 BB/9

Prediction

Mets 7, Yankees 5

Moneyline (ML)

Side with the healthier METS (+105) offense in a high-scoring game. The Yankees have dropped seven straight after a blistering start to the season, including the first two of the series. The Mets are still priced as slight underdogs after outscoring the Yanks 10-7 through two games.

The Mets bullpen ranks just 15th in baseball with an aggregate 4.40 ERA and will be used in full force behind the opening Gsellman. The Yankees (-118) bullpen hasn’t been all that much better with a 4.30 group ERA and Happ has been in bad form to start the season.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The METS -1.5 (+150) are favored on the run line as the book tries to hedge against having the higher-profile Yankees (+1.5, -183) as favorites on the moneyline.

The Yankees are 18-11 on the run line this season, but they’re in a downward spiral and struggling to score runs without Stanton, Judge and others. Happ isn’t the pitcher to get them back on track.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 10 (-110) in a lackluster pitching matchup. The bullpens offer little reprieve if they’re forced into action early.

San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and bets.

The San Diego Padres (19-14) head to the Colorado Rockies (16-15) on Friday for the first of a three-game series in Coors Field at 8:40 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Padres-Rockies MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rockies at Padres: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Zach Davies vs. LHP Kyle Freeland

Davies in 2020: 4-2 with a 3.03 ERA, .84 WHIP, 7.8 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 in 35 2/3 IP over 6 starts.

  • Last start: Win in 8 IP with 4 H, 2 ER, 7 K and 2 BB against the Houston Astros on Aug. 22.
  • Career vs. Rockies: 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 15 K and 12 BB in 25 ⅔ IP over 5 starts.

Freeland in 2020: 2-1 with a 2.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 5.7 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 37 2/3 IP over 6 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in 6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 6 K and 3 BB in a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
  • Career vs. Padres: 3-3 with a 3.60 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 41 K and 16 BB in 50 IP over 8 starts and 2 appearances.

Special Colorado Promotion! Bet $1 on the Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks matchup, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team hits a home run during their game. MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 4:51 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Padres 6, Rockies 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Padres (-106) dropped their last series against the Seattle Mariners two games to one, but they were on a seven-game win streak prior featuring two walk-offs and five grand slams in six games.

The Rockies (-106) swept the Arizona Diamondbacks in their previous series, breaking a seven-game losing streak in which two games Colorado lost by a walk-off.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is a favorite in the MVP race, and Manny Machado is red-hot, hitting .556 with 5 HR and 10 RBI in his last seven games.

Davies pitches better on the road than home and at night, and he has only allowed 4 ER in two career starts at Coors Field. He has good career numbers thus far against Nolan Arenado and Trevor StoryTAKE PADRES (-106).

New to sports betting? A $106 wager on Padres (-106) fetches a $100 profit if San Diego beats Colorado.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

I’ll say this for the Rockies +1.5 (-162): Freeland has looked good so far this season and has steady head-to-head stats against the Padres’ power hitters. Also, the listing for the Padres -1.5 (+135) doesn’t pay out enough to take their moneyline.

PASS ON THE MONEYLINE.

Over/Under (O/U)

There’s a couple of reasons to like the Over 11.5 (-110): The Over is 5-1 in these clubs’ last six meetings and 10-1 in the last 11 meetings in Colorado. But I “LEAN” Under 11.5 (-110). The total is high, and I like this game to be more of a pitcher’s duel than a slugfest.

Game 1: New York Mets at New York Yankees odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s New York Mets at New York Yankees sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets for Game 1 of a doubleheader.

The New York Mets (13-16) and New York Yankees (16-11) will tangle in two in Yankee Stadium on Friday. The opener is slated for a 4:05 p.m. ET first pitch. Below, we analyze the Mets-Yankees MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Mets at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Michael Wacha vs. LHP Jordan Montgomery

Wacha has started three games this season, but he hasn’t logged pitched since Aug. 7. He totes a 6.43 ERA into what marks his second career start at Yankee Stadium.

  • The veteran right-hander logged a 4.76 ERA in 126 2/3 IP a year ago.
  • Wacha doesn’t have a great history as a road starter. In away games, he posted an ERA north of 4.90 in two of the last three years.

Montgomery has also been on the shelf for a while. (Both teams have had COVID-19-related stutter starts and stops over the last two weeks.) The Yankee southpaw hasn’t pitched since Aug. 17. He owns a 4.66 ERA over 19 1/3 IP.

  • Montgomery owns a 3.98 ERA over 40 career starts and one relief appearance. His 2018-19 campaigns were mostly derailed due to recovery from Tommy John surgery.
  • The big left-hander has pitched well at lefty-favoring Yankee Stadium. That includes a misleading last start when Montgomery allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings. He was only replaced after an 83-minute rain delay. Montgomery’s career ERA in the Bronx is 3.38 in 22 starts.

Special Betting Promotion! Bet $1 on the New York Yankees vs. New York Mets matchup, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team hits a home run during their game. Regardless of your team bet, you win with a homer! Place your legal baseball wagers in CO, IN, NJ and WV at BetMGM. Terms and conditions apply. Bet now!

Mets at Yankees: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 1:50 p.m. ET.

Moneyline (ML)

This contest – a seven-inning affair due to the doubleheader – comes with a few baked-in, lay-off-and-move-on red flags. The odd team and starter rest intervals and the spate of Yankee injuries are chief among those red flags. But Montgomery is already the lean in the starter matchup, and he gets the benefit of a typically left-leaning Mets lineup. Any drift southward in price would make for a more acceptable edge, but YANKEES -129 is in the ballpark.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Yankees returns a profit of $7.75. A $10 bet on the Mets (+115) would profit $11.50 if they prevail.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The seven-inning game state may turn some off, but consider a play on YANKEES -1.5 (+165). It’s an aggressive line in comparison to the market. The Mets are +1.5 (-200).

Over/Under (O/U)

The weather report calls for a hot one in the Bronx – temps in the high 80s – with a light breeze blowing out to left field. That’s reflected in the figure here. STEER CLEAR of the O/U 7.5 (-110 on both sides).

Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and bets.

The Colorado Rockies (16-15) go for a four-game series sweep against the Arizona Diamondbacks (13-19) Thursday. First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m. ET at Chase Field. Below, we analyze the Rockies-Diamondbacks MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rockies at Diamondbacks: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Kyle Freeland vs. RHP Zac Gallen

Freeland in 2020: 2-1 with a 2.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 5.7 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 37 ⅔ IP over 6 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in 6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 6 K and 3 BB in a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday.
  • Career vs. Diamondbacks: 3-4 with a 5.27 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 46 K and 25 BB in 70 IP over 13 starts.

Gallen in 2020: 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 36 IP over 6 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in 6 IP with 3 H, 1 ER, 6 K and 4 BB in a 5-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants Saturday.
  • Career vs Rockies: 0-0 with a 2.65 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, 18 K and 7 BB in 17 ⅓ IP over 3 starts.

Special Colorado Promotion! Bet $1 on the Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks matchup, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team hits a home run during their game. Rockies at Diamondbacks: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 4:15 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Rockies 9, Diamondback 5

Moneyline (ML)

The Diamondbacks (-150) are on an 8-game losing streak and are currently last in the NL West. The ROCKIES (+135) have won three consecutive games following a seven-game losing streak.

The Diamondbacks being the favorite is BetMGM assuming they’ll break their losing streak.

However, Freeland’s Diamondback splits are stronger than Gallen’s vs. the Rockies, and Arizona has struggled in the box against lefties this season. The Diamondbacks go from 5.12 runs scored per game against righties to 2.03 runs scored per game versus left-handed pitchers.

TAKE THE ROCKIES (+135) to sweep the Diamondbacks.

New to sports betting? A $100 wager on the Rockies pays out a $135 profit if they win.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

There is some logic to taking Colorado on an alternate run line but I am going to PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

The O/U of 8m, with -110 on both sides is a scary number. Both teams’ pitching staffs are below-average, but the Under has cashed in three of their last four games.

PASS on the total because it’s too good to be true considering their combined Over/Under record is15-37-1, and the Under is 4-0-1 in Gallen’s last five home starts vs. a team with a winning record.

Miami Marlins at New York Mets odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Miami Marlins at New York Mets sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Miami Marlins (14-12) and New York Mets (13-16) conclude their four-game series Thursday at Citi Field at 7:10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Marlins-Mets MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Series: Miami leads 2-1.

Marlins at Mets: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Sixto Sanchez vs. RHP Michael Wacha

Sanchez: 1-0, 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 4 K, 0 BB in 5 IP in his only start of the season.

  • The 22-year-old made his MLB debut Saturday, a 5-3 victory at the Washington Nationals.

Wacha: 1-2, 6.43 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 11.6 K/9, 3.2 BB/9 in 14 IP over 3 starts.

  • Last start: Loss in 5 IP with 6 H, 4 ER, 9 K and 2 BB against the Miami Marlins on Aug. 7.
  • Career vs. Marlins: 3-1 with a 4.05 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 28 K, 8 BB in 26⅔ IP over 5 starts.

Special New Jersey Promotion! Bet $1 on the New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins matchup, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team hits a home run during their game. Marlins at Mets: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 3:55 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Mets 6, Marlins 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Marlins (+105) have won three of their last four games, moving into second place in the NL East.

The METS (-118) are looking to get a split in this four-game series after winning Wednesday and following back-to-back losses in a doubleheader Tuesday. New York sits at fourth place in the NL East.

New York’s lineup gets on base — ranked second in team batting average and sixth in OPS — but are only 22nd in runs score per game as it leads the majors in runners left in scoring position per game (4.28). Against Sanchez, who’s making just his second career start, the Mets will do a better job getting runners on base across home plate. BET METS (-118).

New to sports betting? A $118 wager on the Mets returns a $100 profit if they win.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

I “LIKE” METS -1.5 (+165) as a value-play on top of our moneyline wager. It being just Sanchez’s second start gives the Mets lineup a chance to feast on an inexperienced starter. Plus, the Marlins bullpen ranks 20th in ERA, WHIP and opponent’s batting average.

The Mets should be able to get ample opportunities to score runs given their contact and OPS stats and win by two or more runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

In Wacha’s last start vs. the Marlins, Cervelli batted in three runs and Sierra scored a run — both are expected to miss Thursday’s game. The Mets lead the MLB in runners left on base, and while we think they’ll hit well enough with RISP, it’s more of a play on averages than a stone-cold lock.

Wacha should be able to navigate his way through this Marlins lineup and the UNDER 9 (-110) will cash.

Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks betting odds and lines, with NBA betting picks, tips and bets.

The Colorado Rockies (15-15) and Arizona Diamondbacks (13-18) will battle Wednesday night (9:40 p.m. ET) at Chase Field. Below, we analyze the Rockies-Diamondbacks MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rockies at Diamondbacks: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Jon Gray vs. LHP Robbie Ray

Gray has pitched 30 1/3 innings over six starts and has registered a 6.23 ERA.

  • The 28-year-old has fanned just 4.7 batters per nine in 2020. Velocity is down a couple of clicks; hard contact is up a couple of clicks.
  • Gray owns a terrible line against Arizona. The Diamondbacks have clubbed him around to the tune of a .955 OPS in over 150 PA. He clocked a shaky start against the Snakes on Aug. 10 (11H allowed in 3 1/3 IP).

Ray has endured major control problems that have fed into an 8.33 ERA through 27 IP.

  • The Arizona lefty has walked 11 batters over his last two turns (10 IP) and owns an 8.3 walks-per-nine-innings rate on the year.
  • Current Colorado bats have punished Ray in the past to the tune of an 1.168 OPS and .343 isolated power.

Special Colorado Promotion! Bet $1 on the Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks matchup, WIN $100 (in free bets) if either team hits a home run during their game. Moneyline (ML)

The Arizona side has taken on the early wagering. In the concept of cluster luck — the favorable or unfavorable distribution of base runners on both offense and defense — no team has benefited as much as Arizona in 2020.

For Wednesday, the ROCKIES (+120) play is worth watching; there’s a lean toward Colorado, especially at +125. New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Rockies returns a profit of $12.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

ROCKIES +1.5 (-167)/DIAMONDBACKS -1.5 (+140) are the lines, and the market has this one well middled. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

This total is odd. The starting pitchers at career norms would be an 8-8.5. Go the way of the last eight series meetings in this yard (1-7 Over/Under record). TAKE THE UNDER 10 (-110).

Previewing Monday’s Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (13-15) and Arizona Diamondbacks (13-16) meet for a Monday-night NL West contest at Chase Field. First pitch is 9:40 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Rockies-Diamondbacks MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Rockies at Diamondbacks: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Ryan Castellani vs. RHP Merrill Kelly

Castellani is in line for his fourth career start. The Rockies rookie owns a 3.77 ERA through three starts.

  • The 24-year-old right-hander has skated through some rocketed contact (10.7% barrels, 43% hard-hit) and benefited from a .189 batting average on balls in play.

Kelly owns a 2.59 ERA through five starts. Like his mound foe, the Arizona right-hander has also escaped hard-contact damage and has been buoyed by a favorable BABIP.

  • Kelly logged a Boeing ERA (7.64) in three starts against Colorado in 2019. Current Rockies batters own a 1.044 OPS against him.

Odds last updated at 12:15 p.m. ET.

Moneyline (ML)

The moneyline draws a layoff. There is some baked-in, season-results lean on Colorado, but the Castellani-bullpen side of that potential play doesn’t work. And the Rockies head into this game having lost seven in a row and 10 of their past 11 contests. The Diamondbacks enter having gone 0-5 with just five runs scored over their previous five games. AVOID ARIZONA -162/COLORADO +145.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Rockies to win returns a profit of $14.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Four games in Colorado’s current losing skid have been by two runs or less. The price on the Rockies — ROCKIES +1.5 (-150) — is decent and worth a look.

Over/Under (O/U)

There are too many cross signals on this one to make for much of a lean. But both bullpens — which are average or below-average — are slightly better than indicated by their surface stats. The Diamondbacks have scored two runs or fewer in five straight games; the Rockies have scored three or less in five of their past seven. The end result is a small-confidence lean on the UNDER 9.5 (-121).

Cincinnati Reds at Milwaukee Brewers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Cincinnati Reds at Milwaukee Brewers sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Cincinnati Reds (11-15) and Milwaukee Brewers (11-15) open a four-game series Monday at 8:10 p.m. ET for an NL Central battle at Miller Park. Below, we analyze the Reds-Brewers MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Reds at Brewers: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Trevor Bauer vs. LHP Brett Anderson

Bauer has been one of the top pitchers in the league in the early going. The Reds right-hander has gone six-plus innings in each of four starts and he hasn’t allowed more than one earned run in any outing. Bauer has struck out 14 batters per nine and owns a minuscule 0.68 ERA.

  • Bauer has a dominant line against current Milwaukee batters. The Brewers have struck out 32 times in 96 plate appearances. Over those 96 PA, they’ve compiled a .611 OPS and .114 isolated power.
  • The Brewers have scuffled against righties (whiff-heavy .612 OPS) in 2020.

Anderson owns a 3.71 ERA through four starts. He’s coming off a solid six-inning road start against the Minnesota Twins, but he’s not fully stretched out yet (the outing was his first this season over 4.1 IP).

  • The Milwaukee southpaw makes this start on four days’ rest. Over his much-traveled career and recent seasons alike, Anderson has had better numbers off a five-day interval.
  • The Reds have bashed left-handers to the tune of an .801 OPS. Current Cincinnati bats own a high-contact .737 OPS against Anderson

At four games under .500, Cincinnati has under-performed on the runs and runs allowed that it has produced. And the Reds’ numbers on both sides of the ball (runs scored and allowed) undersell underlying production analytics. Anderson wasn’t particularly effective against the Reds in a home start on Aug. 8. The line for this one has jumped toward the Cincinnati side this morning. But there is still value on the visitors. TAKE THE REDS -139 vs. the Brewers (+125).

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Reds to win returns a profit of $7.19.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The run line action is worth monitoring. The REDS -1.5 (+110) line moving perhaps 10 cents (to +120) makes Cincinnati a solid play.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean here is toward a nine-run total, but the market has that lean pegged. AVOID the Over 8.5 (-121)/Under 8.5 (+100).

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Boston Red Sox (6-15) and New York Yankees (14-6) meet Sunday night at 7:08 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Red Sox-Yankees MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets for this Yankee Stadium affair between longtime AL East rivals.

Red Sox at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Chris Mazza vs. LHP J.A. Happ

Mazza aced the Yankees on Aug. 1, holding them scoreless in a 2-2/3-inning relief stint. The contest marked his first (and only) game of 2020 and the 10th of his career. Sunday’s start will be the first of Mazza’s career.

  • The 30-year-old right-hander starts this one for a team with its pitching in shambles. Through Saturday, BoSox starting pitchers have notched a 6.95 ERA (29th MLB); the bullpen owns a mark of 5.44 (23rd).

Happ has been awful through two starts. The Yankee hurler is halfway (or perhaps two-thirds) on the outside-looking-in on the New York rotation. He hasn’t appeared in a game since Aug. 5. Happ has pitched 7 IP, allowing 8 ER in the process this season.  His 4.91 ERA last season marked his highest since 2011.

  • Current Boston bats own a shaky .610 OPS and .130 isolated power against the veteran port-sider. A year ago, Happ started four games against the Sox, posting a 3.09 ERA.

Moneyline (ML)

Boston has lost six straight games due to shaky pitching:  Five of those losses went Over and the other game was a Push on the total. New York has won four straight, and with tremendous hitting three of those have been Overs. The Bronx Bombers have an all-star list of walking wounded but betting against their depth is typically unwise. But so is betting for the Sox or Happ. IT ALL SPELLS A LAY-OFF ORDER HERE, WITH A LEAN TOWARD THE YANKEES (-150) ON PRICE.

New to sports betting? A $15 bet on the Dodgers to win returns a profit of $10.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

YANKEES -1.5 (+125) is a solid number on the run line. It figures as having the most value among these three plays as listed.

Over/Under (O/U)

The starters in this one, the New York relief injuries, and the Yankee regulars on the shelf make the OVER 9.5 (-110)/UNDER 9.5 (-110) too muddy to call.

Prediction

Yankees 9, Red Sox 3

Moneyline (ML)

Back the YANKEES (-154). They have won the last seven vs. the Red Sox (+140), who are really in need of a win. New York is also 12-1 in the past 13 head-to-head meetings. Outside of the “they’re due” theory, there’s no reason to think the streak ends Saturday.

New to sports betting? Every $1.54 bet on the Yankees ML will profit $1 if they win. A $1 winning bet on the Red Sox profits $1.40.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The YANKEES (-1, -115), who own the majors’ best RL record at 14-5, are the STRONGEST PLAY. They’re 4-0 vs. the Red Sox (+1, -106) this season with all four victories covering the run line. Boston is 7-13 vs. the RL overall, including 4-9 in its last 13 games and 0-4 since Tuesday.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 9 (-110) is worth backing. Boston’s bullpen owns a woeful 5.40 ERA, which ranks 14th in the AL and 23rd in all of baseball. The Yankees are 4-1-1 O/U in their last six, while the Red Sox are 4-0-1 O/U during their current five-game losing streak.
