Eight teams were idle heading into the latest USA TODAY Sports Super 25, with many of the top programs gearing up for the playoff push in the second week of November.

However, it was business as usual for the Super 25 teams that did play,  including IMG Academy (Fla.), which grabbed the national spotlight after a 96-0 win—in a game that was called at halftime.

While the front of the pack held firm in the latest USA TODAY Sports Super 25, a loss by Chandler (Ariz.) and a statement win by Duncanville (Texas) has created a new look for the top 10. 

The shift sent teams in the bottom half of the rankings up a few spots—with Liberty (Ariz.) making the most significant jump from last week—and opened the door for the winner over the Chandler Wolves to enter the Super 25.

Mater Dei (Calif.) added another week to the consecutive streak atop the USA TODAY Sports Super 25, with the Monarchs improving to 9-0 on the season after a 52-7 win over Santa Margarita (Calif.).

On the other side of the country, Central (Fla.) provided plenty of dramatics, holding off a second-half surge by Columbus (Fla.) to remain at No. 3. And Chaminade-Madonna’s dismantling of Avant Garde Academy (Fla.) earned the Lions the No. 9 spot this week.

Outside looking in, Guyer’s decisive in-state win over Texas power Allen moved them up a spot. The 49-7 victory was only the second loss of the year for the Eagles, the first coming at the hands of No. 5 St. John Bosco (Calif.), 52-14.

Buford (Ga.) was the top performer heading into the latest USA TODAY Sports Super 25, with the Wolves topping No. 21 Mill Creek (Ga.) 39-27. The Hawks’ loss created a slide in the bottom half of the rankings, where Archbishop Moeller’s (Ohio) close defeat to St. Edward (Ohio) also helped open the door.

With one-loss Bergen Catholic (N.J.) falling outside the top 25 as well, three new teams appear this week, each looking to the top where Mater Dei (Calif.) continues its stronghold on the No. 1 spot.

Mater Dei (Calif.) came out on top in the highly anticipated St. John Bosco (Calif.) matchup last Friday, solidifying the Monarchs’ No. 1 USA TODAY Sports Super 25 ranking they’ve held since August 30. 

The tough loss by the Braves opened the door just enough for St. Frances Academy (Md.) to take over the No. 2 spot, with Florida power Central moving up to No. 3 after an impressive win against in-state foe Northwestern.

However, the week’s big mover was Bishop Gorman (Nev.) — a team that nearly beat Mater Dei in Week 2 and continues to steamroll opponents. The Gaels’ resume has been too impressive to overlook, and for the first time this season, they find themselves in the top 5, just ahead of Bosco. 

Chandler (Ariz.) also jumped after an impressive victory over a solid Casteel (Ariz.) team this week, sending North Shore (Texas)—which survived a close game against Summer Creek (Texas), with David Amador filling in for starting quarterback Kaleb Bailey—to No. 9.

Outside looking in, Oakland (Tenn.) suffered its first defeat of the season. The surprising loss sent the Patriots out of the top 25 and provided the opportunity for an impressive California school to enter the mix.

Mater Dei (Calif.) and St. John Bosco (Calif.) both continue impressive runs atop the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 rankings, setting up a big-time Trinity League showdown between the two this Friday at Santa Ana Stadium.

Elsewhere around the top 10 gridiron action, St. Frances Academy (Md.) had its hands full on the road in Hawaii, coming back from seven points down in the fourth quarter to stay undefeated in 2022 and locked at the No. 3 spot. And Bishop Gorman kept its shutout streak alive in dominating fashion, defeating Canyon Springs (Nev.) 58-0. 

Outside looking in, it was American Heritage (Fla.) with the week’s most significant win. The Patriots lined up against a Super 25 team for the second time this season, taking on Cardinal Gibbons (Fla.). And, unlike the tough matchup against Chaminade-Madonna (Fla.), the Patriots came out on top with a 21-2 thrashing.

That statement win in the Sunshine State, accompanied by another loss for D.C. power St. John’s, created a shift in the bottom half of the rankings, which includes two new teams making an appearance this week.

St. Frances Academy (Md.) was the headliner of last week’s high school football action, taking out South Carolina power Dutch Fork on the road. The big win keeps the Panthers in the top three of the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 rankings, with Mater Dei (Calif.) and St. John Bosco (Calif.) still holding firm at No. 1 and 2.

However, the rest of the top 10 wasn’t as stable, as Bergen Catholic’s (N.J.) loss to Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) and two impressive victories down in Florida created a shift heading into Week 5.

Capping off the top 10 was newcomer Chandler (Ariz.), which avenged last year’s loss to Saguaro (Ariz.) with a solid win in 2022. 

And the teams looking to the top had their views adjusted this week as well, with No. 17 Grayson (Ga.) suffering its first defeat of the season and creating a marginal slide up the Super 25 for a few programs.  

That loss also opened the door for the newest team in the rankings, a talented squad hailing out of Tennessee.

Chaminade-Madonna’s (Fla.) big-time win over American Heritage (Fla.) sets the stage for the latest movement in the USA TODAY Sports Super 25. While both Florida teams remain in the rankings, the Lions’ impressive victory catapulted them into the top 10, where California juggernauts Mater Dei and St. John Bosco still hold the top spots.

Not to be outshined in Florida, St. Thomas Aquinas took care of its in-state matchup in epic fashion, shutting out Western 38-0. The performance was strong enough to pass perennial New Jersey powerhouse Bergen Catholic for the No. 6 slot.

And speaking of high school football powers, the Chandler Wolves (Ariz.) have not entered the rankings quietly, jumping a few top Texas teams after posting a second straight shutout.

The Wolves’ two-week total: 85-0.

Lastly, a tough loss in Ohio has opened the door for another top-tier program out of Georgia, which lands in the Super 25 for the first time this season.

California’s top teams left little doubt as to why each is worthy of a No. 1 nod in the latest USA TODAY Sports Super 25, with Mater Dei and St. John Bosco both shutting out the opponent while putting up a collective 84 points last Friday. 

Will Mater Dei stay at the top? Each week, there is a stronger case for the boys from Bellflower.

The rest of the top 10 remained stable, highlighted by Miami Central coming off its bye with an impressive win and Bergen Catholic (N.J.) continuing to build momentum. However, Nevada power Bishop Gorman took an opportunity in Week 3 to leapfrog the top Texas teams after it dismantled perennial in-state juggernaut Hamilton.

And outside looking in, upsets shaped the bottom half of the rankings as Jesuit (Fla.) and East St. Louis (Ill.) suffered defeats, opening the door for two new teams.

Week 2 of the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 high school football rankings welcomes two new teams to the mix, with Saguaro (Ariz.) and DeSoto (Texas) dropping out after tough losses to Bergen Catholic (N.J.) and St. Frances Academy (Md.), respectively.

Meanwhile, a handful of other teams continued to shine, leapfrogging the competition and making a solid push to the top of the list—where California powerhouses St. John Bosco and Mater Dei still hold strong.
