The Pop-Tart mascot everyone loved was reportedly played by a beloved former NBA mascot

Strawberry was named For The Win’s best mascot of bowl season.

When we think back to this college football bowl season, we’ll remember the perfectly unserious Pop-Tarts Bowl and its beloved mascot, Strawberry.

College football fans were first introduced to the mascot (non-edible version) when he gloriously popped out of a giant toaster on the field as “…Ready For It?” by Taylor Swift played in the background.

He captured the hearts of all those who watched the game and he became an instant meme for menacingly creeping behind a referee. Strawberry shared a hilarious message before it evolved into its final, edible form and he was then mourned by fans around the world once it was eaten.

As we tried to learn everything we possibly could about this mascot, we discovered some truly incredible reporting by ESPN’s Sarah Spain.

According to Spain, the mascot (non-edible version) was played by the same person who portrayed Benny The Bull for more than a decade until stepping away in 2016.

When he wore the costume we got to see what it was like to live as a mascot when he wore a Go-Pro; he had an amazing and powerful message to former Clippers owner Donald Sterling; he did acrobatic flips; he saved relationships between couples; he spilled popcorn on Rajon Rondo; he even made referees dance with him.

His legacy lives on and For The Win named Benny The Bull as the best mascot in the NBA. For The Win, meanwhile, recently crowned Strawberry as the best mascot of college football bowl season.

WATCH: Bulls unveiled 2023-24 schedule with Pokémon-inspired hype video

The Chicago Bulls celebrated the release of the 2023-24 regular season schedule by sending Benny the Bull on a Pokémon-inspired adventure.

The 2023-24 regular-season schedule for the Chicago Bulls has been released.

Chicago will tip it off with a game at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder and will end the year on the road at the New York Knicks. In between, there will be all sorts of exciting tilts and compelling matchups. To celebrate the newly released game calendar, the Bulls released a Pokémon-inspired hype video to debut the team’s official schedule.

The video in question features Chicago’s mascot Benny the Bull entering a gym, animated in a similar style to the earliest Pokémon Nintendo Game Boy games. Benny faces off with stylized versions of Victor Wembanyama, LeBron James, and others, calling upon DeMar DeRozan and others to vanquish his foes. Complete with a 8-bit style musical score, it’s a clever and endearing video to accompanying the regular season schedule release.

Benny the Bull suggests clever tweak to Chicago’s court design

Chicago’s beloved Benny the Bull offers a cute idea for a new court design.

Chicago’s beloved mascot “Benny the Bull” took to Twitter to offer a re-designed home court with a charmingly self-serving twist. This comes shortly after the NFL’s Cleveland Browns announced their own cartoon mascot would be painted at midfield at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Benjamin T. “Benny” Bull has been the mascot for the Chicago Bulls since 1969. He’s known as one of the most popular mascots in North American sports, The current and most recognizable version of Benny is actually one of a surprisingly diverse cast of family members and previous iterations.

Clubs across the NBA have been experimenting with different court designs for years now. Perhaps Chicago should indeed adopt a more taurine mid-court emblem.
