Bengals make roster moves due to injuries ahead of preseason finale

The Bengals made roster moves to start the week.

The Cincinnati Bengals made a flurry of roster moves on Monday before the team’s preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts.

As expected, the Bengals shifted running back Chris Evans and offensive tackle D’Ante Smith to injured reserve.

Both players were key depth pieces at their respective positions who went down with knee injuries in the rain during joint practices with the Chicago Bears last week.

The Bengals also waived defensive lineman Devonnsha Maxwell on the list of moves, making the picture a little clearer at that highly contested position.

Cincinnati hosts the Colts at Paycor Stadium on Thursday night to end the preseason.

Bengals announce trio of free agent signings (including a punter)

The Bengals make three free agency signings official.

The Cincinnati Bengals announced a trio of free agency signings on Friday, capping off a busy first week of training camp.

Media reports spoiled the first two before the team could announce the additions of cornerback Nate Brooks and wide receiver Hakeem Butler.

The third? Punter Ryan Rehkow.

That means there is now a three-way roster battle at punter this offseason, with Rehkow joining Brad Robbins and undrafted rookie Austin McNamara.

As for Brooks, the biggest fan of his signing was…Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He’ll compete for a roster spot, as will Butler, the reigning UFL offensive player of the year.

Bengals add veteran CB in free agency as training camp continues

The Bengals add to the roster in free agency.

The Cincinnati Bengals attempted this week to make it sound like they weren’t in the market for a cornerback.

That was apparently a lie.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Bengals signed former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nate Brooks on Friday.

Brooks went undrafted in 2019 and after that summer stint with the 49ers, played for the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL.

The Bengals had an obvious need at corner on the back end of the depth chart with DJ Ivey not all the way back from his season-ending injury last year. Brooks will compete with the likes of Jalen Davis and Allan George.

Bengals make roster moves before training camp

Some roster moves for the Bengals before training camp.

The Cincinnati Bengals announced a handful of minor roster moves before players started reporting to training camp.

Saturday, the team announced that it moved tight end Erick All Jr. to the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

All, the team’s fourth-round pick, tore his ACL last season, so his starting slow this summer isn’t a shock.

The Bengals also placed defensive lineman Devonnsha Maxwell and cornerback DJ Ivey on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.

Ivey, a seventh-round pick in 2023, was an emerging depth piece last season before suffering a knee injury. Like with All, the team will likely take it slow, especially early in camp.

Bengals announce roster moves at voluntary workouts

Some roster moves for the Bengals.

With players arriving at Paycor Stadium for spring activities, the Cincinnati Bengals made two moves official.

Monday, the team announced that long-snapper Cal Adomitis re-signed. The team had extended him an exclusive rights free agent tender back in February.

The team also announced the re-signing of linebacker Joe Bachie, a fifth-year contributor on special teams and key depth. As expected, he re-joins the likes of Akeem Davis-Gaither on the depth chart behind starters Logan Wilson and Germaine Pratt.

This is the first of an expected handful of housekeeping moves for the team as coaches and players go through the usual spring paces.

Bengals roster moves: Cody Ford re-signs before free agency opens

The Bengals make a roster move before free agency.

The Cincinnati Bengals have made their second notable move before free agency with the re-signing of offensive lineman Cody Ford.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo was the first to report the news, confirming it’s a one-year deal.

Ford, a second-round pick in 2019 by the Buffalo Bills, joined the Bengals last season and earned a spot on the final 53-man roster, starting one game last season and appearing in 17.

The first big move before free agency was applying the franchise tag to Tee Higgins. The re-signing of Ford secures some younger (27) depth on the interior with flexibility for tackle play, too, before the line figures to be something they address in free agency and the draft, too.

Bengals make another roster move after Week 18

Another roster move for the Bengals.

A day removed from making a flurry of minor future-minded roster moves, the Cincinnati Bengals made another with the same theme on Tuesday.

There, the team signed offensive tackle Devin Cochran to a one-year deal, wrapping up a depth piece they like along the offensive line.

Cochran joined the team as an undrafted player in 2022 and spent that season on the practice squad before missing all of last season with a knee injury.

Given the continual need for depth and a potential opening at right tackle with Jonah Williams’ future in free agency an unknown, this is far from the last move the Bengals will make along the line this offseason.

Bengals make roster moves by signing players to future contracts

Some signings for the Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals went through a litany of press conferences on Monday to cap off the season, then announced some roster moves.

Those roster moves were signing players to the Reserve/Future contracts. The full list:

  • DT Domenique Davis
  • CB Allan George
  • C Nate Gilliam
  • DE Jeff Gunter
  • LB Shaka Heyward
  • WR Shedrick Jackson
  • G Jaxson Kirkland (Injured list)
  • WR Kwamie Lassiter II
  • WR Kendric Pryor

This is standard housekeeping as teams lock up former practice squad members (eight of the above finished the season on that list). The players won’t count against the active roster until February 12, one day after the Super Bowl.

Bengals make roster moves before Week 18 vs. Browns

The Bengals make a pair of roster moves.

The Cincinnati Bengals made a pair of roster moves ahead of the team’s Week 18 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Seeking depth at key spots for the season finale, the team elevated cornerback Sidney Jones IV and wide receiver Stanley Morgan from the practice squad to the active roster.

As standard elevations, both players will return to the practice squad on the Monday after the game.

Cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Jalen Davis are questionable on the final injury report, so Jones reinforces that area.

More significant is the fact wideout Tee Higgins carries a “doubtful” tag into the game, so Morgan is important depth behind the likes of rookie Andrei Iosivas.

Bengals make more roster moves before Week 17 vs. Chiefs

More roster moves for the Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals hit on the expected roster moves to officially start their week of prep for the Week 17 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

There, the Bengals designated Cam Taylor-Britt to return to the main roster from injured reserve, ending his mandatory four-game stay due to multiple injuries.

In a subsequent move, the Bengals signed defensive tackle Domenique Davis to the practice squad. An addition to the 53 before Week 16, the Bengals waived Davis over the holiday to prep for the return of CTB.

CTB has been on injured reserve since the start of December and Wednesday’s move opens his 21-day window to practice before officially returning to the 53. Given the Davis move and what we know about his progress, though, his full return should happen this week.
