Nate Diaz protege Chris Avila added to Bellator 238

A close friend and confidant of the Diaz brothers, Chris Avila has a date, location, and opponent for his next fight.

The Diaz brothers have kept a close, tight-knit circle over the years.

Among the crew is lightweight fighter [autotag]Chris Avila[/autotag]. A multiple-time UFC and Bellator veteran, Avila (7-8 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) returns to action at Bellator 238 against [autotag]Anthony Taylor[/autotag] (6-5 MMA, 1-3 BMMA).

A Bellator official confirmed the booking with MMA Junkie, following a Saturday announcement by Taylor on Twitter.

Bellator 238 takes place Jan. 25 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. The main card will stream live on DAZN after prelims on MMA Junkie.

Since Avila was signed to the UFC in 2016, he has struggled to pick up wins. In his most recent seven fights, Avila has lost six decisions: five unanimous and one split. His lone win in that stretch came against Brandon Pieper at Bellator 212 in December 2018.

As for Taylor, the 30-year-old fighter has won his most recent four outings for notable promotions such as Combate Americas and BAMMA.

Bellator 238 free fight: Fedor Emelianenko turns back the clock against Chael Sonnen

Ahead of Bellator 238, relive Fedor Emelianenko finish Chael Sonnen by TKO.

It’s well-known by now: [autotag]Fedor Emelianenko[/autotag] is a legend of the sport.

While he’d suffered a handful of losses since his heyday, the Russian heavyweight proved he still had more mileage left in the tank at Bellator 208 in October 2018.

At Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York, Emelianenko turned back the clock when he took on three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen.

The fight saw an aggressive Emelianenko tag Sonnen with big punches on the feet. Midway through the first round, Sonnen scored a takedown. Upon Sonnen’s entry into mount, Emelianenko reversed position.

When the fight rose back to the feet, Emelianenko tossed Sonnen to the canvas. From there, Emelianenko produced an onslaught of ground-and-pound. Referee Dan Miragliotta waved off the fight with 14 seconds left in the first frame.

With the victory, Emelianenko advanced to the Bellator heavyweight grand prix final.. He took on light heavyweight champ Ryan Bader, but lost by first-round TKO.

Since he lost his professional MMA debut in January 2019, Agazarm has won back-to-back fights. Despite being victorious in his most recent outing, Agazarm stressed his desire to be more “mean-spirited” the next time he steps into the cage.

“You can go do whatever you want to do to think you’re going to be tough,” Agazarm told reporters, including MMA Junkie, post-fight at Bellator 228. “There’s certain guys that think that’s going to do the trick, but it all comes down the wash. It’s about being mean-spirited.

[lawrence-related id=467437,463010]

As for Altamimi (8-6 MMA, 1-1 BMMA), his decorated military background and story of courage has been well documented. Aaron Pico has verbally agreed to face Daniel Carey at Bellator 238 in Inglewood, Calif.

[autotag]Aaron Pico[/autotag] has his next fight in his sights.

Pico (4-3 MMA, 4-3 BMMA), a 23-year-old featherweight,  has verbally agreed to face [autotag]Daniel Carey[/autotag] at Bellator 238. MMA Junkie confirmed the targeted bout after an initial report from ESPN.

Pico will look to rebound after back-to-back knockout losses. At Bellator 214 in January, Pico appeared to be on the verge of victory early against Henry Corrales. At Bellator 222 in June, Pico was knocked out once again. In that bout, he fell victim to Hungarian featherweight Adam Borics, who nailed Pico with a flying knee before finishing him off with punches.

As for Carey (7-3 MMA, 3-2 BMMA), the 29-year-old Californian is coming off of an upset victory against Gaston Bolanos at Bellator 226 in September. A 7-1 underdog, Carey submitted the Peruvian by guillotine choke in the first round.
