Something’s just not right for Barcelona this season. After several months of transfer sagas and failed negotiations involving Neymar over the summer, the atmosphere and performances surrounding the Catalonia giants have been weird. Despite all the negativity regarding its pedestrian showing this season, Barcelona still finds itself atop just narrowly. This just goes to show how high the bar has been set for this prestigious club.

Antoine Griezmann was their huge offseason signing, while the club’s top players all wanted to see Neymar return. The Frenchman’s introduction into the lineup hasn’t gone smoothly, but he did score a goal in Wednesday’s 3-1 Champions League win over Dortmund, along with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Disappointing signings are something Atletico Madrid can relate to. After selling both Griezmann and Rodri for huge fees this summer, the team spent quite a bit on Portuguese youngster Joao Felix. Everything went so well for Atleti in the preseason with Felix and the entire squad immediately clicking. Unfortunately, that early success didn’t translate to competitive matches. Felix has struggled with ineffectiveness and injuries, while the overall results leave them on the outside of the title race looking in. A huge win over Barca at home is just what the team needs to get back on track.

How to Watch Liga MX Quarterfinals, Monarcas vs. Leon & Monterrey vs. Santos Laguna Live Stream, Schedule, US TV Channel, Start Time

Watch the Liga MX Quarterfinals Live Online.

After 18 matches of the exciting regular-season action, the Apertura 2019 Liga MX championship stage is upon us with four intriguing quarterfinal matchups. The Liguilla always delivers some of the most dramatic and intense moments in Mexican soccer and this season’s playoffs should be no different.

Liga MX Quarterfinals (First Leg)

Date: Wed. Nov. 27 – Thurs. Nov. 28

Club Leon, who finished in second place in the regular season is in search of its third Liga MX title and first since 2014 as it takes on Morelia in its opening round matchup. One of the most in-form Mexican stars currently is Leon striker JJ Macias. The striker has emerged as a legitimate option for Tata Martino and the Mexico national team. If Leon is to make a run at a third championship, it’ll need big things from its burgeoning star. These two clubs met once in the Apertura with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Queretaro is looking to breakthrough among the Liga MX elite. The team is appearing in the playoffs for the first time in a year and is still in search of its first championship. Winning from the fourth seed will be no easy task. Neither will have to deal with Necaxa forward Mauro Quiroga, who was the joint top scorer in the regular season with 12 goals. If Queretaro can keep the Argentinian quiet, the team will like its chances of advancing.

Top-seeded Santos Laguna is the most decorated club in this year’s playoffs with six total titles to its name. A seventh title is within reach and would cap off a very good season for Los Guerreros. Meanwhile, Monterrey has struggled mightily this campaign after capturing the Concacaf Champions League crown earlier this year. While its regular season was disappointing, the three-time Liga MX champs clearly have the talent to knock off any team at any time.

When it comes to pedigree and experience in these types of tournaments, both Tigres and Club America are neck and neck with a combined 10 Liga MX titles. Led by stars such as Andre-Pierre Gignac and Enner Valencia, Tigres has developed a reputation as the big spending, luxury club of Mexico. Only another trophy in the team’s cabinet will suffice. On the other hand, America won this competition last season and will be desperate to defend its crown.

Flamengo vs. River Plate

When: Saturday, November 23

Time: 3:30 p.m. ET

TV: beINSports

Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Flamengo and River Plate arrive in Lima, Peru as the two undisputed best teams in South America. It would have been a shame if they faced each other early in the tournament, but the draw made sure it didn’t happen and we all get to watch it in the last game. Flamengo is one of the most exciting teams in the world at the moment due to the arrival of coach Jorge Jesus in July, along with the signings of established European veterans such as Rafinha and Filipe Luís. They have transformed this team into a scoring machine that is running away with the Brazilian league title and clinched a place in the Libertadores final with a 5-0 second leg win over 2017 champions Gremio. Flamengo hasn’t played this game in 38 years, so the anticipation and excitement is palpable.

If Flamengo has the flair and the goals, River Plate has the experience. Under coach Marcelo Gallardo, who could be off to Barcelona in the coming months, River went from the second division in Argentina to two Libertadores titles since 2015. Now it has the chance to go back-to-back, which is a very rare thing in South America. River is not as explosive as Flamengo, but are extremely well coached and capable of adapting to any situation, which means the team can go from an ultra defensive side to an attacking juggernaut in the same game at the snap of a finger. They say styles make fights, and this could be a fight for the ages. Missing this one would be a bad mistake.

Barcelona vs. Leganes

When: Saturday, November 23

Time: 7:00 a.m. ET

TV: beIN SPORTS

Live Stream: fuboTV (watch for free)

Barcelona has had a very inconsistent season and fans all around the world are not happy. They’re calling for manager Ernesto Valverde’s head and want players like Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suárez to be gone as soon as possible. For all of that to happen, though, the club must go through tragedy on the pitch, something bad enough to provoke huge changes. Due to a brutal schedule, in a very realistic scenario, Barça could be out of the Champions League and behind its biggest rivals after losing El Clásico to Real Madrid, and it would be nearly impossible to keep things as they are if all of that takes place.

Obviously, the players and the coach don’t want tragedy. They must start the tough stretch with a statement of intent, and facing the bottom of the table Leganés away from home where Barça has historically had success is a perfect way. Get a big win and gain some confidence before the first tough game in that schedule against Borussia Dortmund at home. This team has been so inconsistent and so bad on the road, however, that even Leganés can beat them. Barça is under pressure, and they must respond.
