Bears fans react to report that ‘overwhelming number’ of players want Matt Nagy gone

Bears fans, and now reportedly players, are done with Matt Nagy.

It’s obvious that Matt Nagy will be out as Bears head coach after this season, perhaps sooner, as Chicago has lost five straight games for the second consecutive season and things continue to spiral out of control.

As frustrations continue to mount for fans, who started “Fire Nagy” chants after Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, the players are starting to get fed up, as well. Count Jaylon Johnson among those who are over the “rah-rah speeches” that this team has had to endure during a couple of brutal losing streaks over the last couple of games.

But according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, there are an “overwhelming number” of Bears players who want Nagy gone. On 670 the Score, Schultz said that the team’s trust started to diminish when the Bears named Andy Dalton the starter over Justin Fields.

The response to the report that most players want Nagy fired has been about as expected — it’s long overdue, not a surprise and fans are wondering how the McCaskeys can continue to employ Nagy after where this team is for a third straight season.

Twitter reacts to Bears losing Khalil Mack for the season

Khalil Mack is done for the year with a foot injury, and Twitter had plenty to say about Mack’s injury and its implications.

The Chicago Bears have lost one of their best defensive players for the season as outside linebacker Khalil Mack is set to have season-ending foot surgery, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Mack suffered a foot injury against the Browns back in Week 3, and he played through the injury for a month before missing the last two games to let the foot heal.

While the Bears were hoping Mack’s foot would heal with three weeks of rest, that wasn’t the case. With Chicago not in contention for the postseason, it’s a move that makes sense. Why prolong the inevitable and not give Mack plenty of time to recover, where he’ll look to replicate what was shaping up to be an impressive 2021 season.

As you can imagine, Twitter had plenty to say about the injury. While there are some classless New York Giants fans celebrating what they believe to be a high draft pick on the way from Chicago, there are many Bears fans and NFL fans wishing Mack well and hoping he returns stronger and better than ever next season.

Bears fans believe they’ve seen the last of Danny Trevathan in Chicago

Danny Trevathan’s season is done, and Bears fans can’t help but believe that his time in Chicago is over.

The Chicago Bears placed linebacker Danny Trevathan on injured reserve Friday, marking the second time this season that he’s been on IR. Per NFL rules, that means Trevathan’s season is officially over.

With Trevathan’s season done, it’s hard not to wonder if we’ve seen the last of Trevathan in a Bears uniform. Trevathan, who was a solid signing by general manager Ryan Pace in 2015, signed a three-year extension worth $21.75 million back in 2020.

The controversy at the time revolved around which linebacker Chicago would choose to extend — a young, healthy Nick Kwiatkoski or an aging veteran with injury concerns. Pace chose Trevathan, which even at the time left a good portion of fans upset. Now, it’s clear Pace made the wrong choice.

While Trevathan still has one year left on that three-year contract, most Bears fans believe they’ve seen the last of Trevathan in Chicago. If the Bears were to release Trevathan, he’d carry a dead-cap hit of roughly $9 million, not unlike departed cornerback Kyle Fuller. Still, Bears fans are sticking to their guns that Trevathan’s time in Chicago is done.

Twitter reacts to Bears signing veteran pass rusher Bruce Irvin

Twitter had plenty to say about the Bears signing Bruce Irvin, where there was a lot of concern about Khalil Mack’s foot injury.

The Bears are adding some needed depth at edge rusher with the signing of veteran Bruce Irvin, who will provide some help off the edge as Khalil Mack continues to nurse a foot injury sustained in Week 3.

Irvin, a former first-round draft pick by the Seahawks in 2012, helped lead Seattle to a win in Super Bowl XLVII against the Broncos. He’s also spent time with the Raiders — with Mack — Falcons and Panthers before returning to the Seahawks last season.

While Irvin had 8.5 sacks with the Panthers in 2019, he played only two games with the Seahawks last season before suffering a torn ACL.

The hope is Irvin, alongside the Bears’ current sack leader Robert Quinn, can revive Chicago’s pass rush as Mack remains sidelined.

Twitter had plenty to say about the Irvin signing, where there was a lot of concern about Mack’s foot injury and plenty of jokes about the Bears reuniting former Raiders teammates in Mack and Irvin.
