Rams-Bears injury report: Final update for Week 4 matchup

There are no injury concerns for the Rams this week, but the same can’t be said about the Bears

For the first time all season, the Los Angeles Rams have fewer legitimate injury concerns than their opponent. Yes, Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Steve Avila and Jonah Jackson are all still out, but they came out of Week 3 unscathed, resulting in a shorter injury report ahead of Sunday’s game.

Kupp has been ruled out for this week, as expected. Davis Allen is questionable and Logan Bruss is good to go after being listed on the report this week, but Sean McVay said Allen is expected to play.

The Chicago Bears are in worse shape injury-wise. They have three players who are questionable, all of them being starters: Keenan Allen, Andrew Billings and Kevin Byard. Three others have already been ruled out, as well: Stephen Carlson, Zacch Pickens and Terrell Smith.

Allen is the most notable name in that group but he was a full participant Friday so he could be making his return to action after missing two games.

Bears WR Rome Odunze expected to return to practice next week

Bears rookie Rome Odunze (hamstring) is expected to be back at OTAs next week.

The Chicago Bears are in the middle of organized team activities, which kicked off earlier this week and run through the end of the month.

There were several notable absences — due to a variety of undisclosed reasons, which is to be expected during voluntary workouts. That included rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze, who was held out due his hamstring.

Odunze missed the final practice of rookie minicamp due to hamstring tightness, and it’s clear the team isn’t rushing him back. But it sounds like good news is on the way.

Head coach Matt Eberflus told the media that Odunze is expected to return to practice next week. During Thursday’s practice, Odunze was spotted doing some light work and stretches.

Odunze was selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, joining No. 1 pick quarterback Caleb Williams as part of Chicago’s impactful class.

Odunze joins a loaded receiver room also featuring two of the game’s best in DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, where it could very well be a race to 1,000 receiving yards in 2024.

While Odunze hasn’t yet been on the field with his veteran teammates, he’s already gotten to start building chemistry with Williams both before and after the draft, including during rookie minicamp. Once he’s able to get back on the field, that should continue.

No concrete timetable for Bears rookie OT Kiran Amegadjie’s return

Bears rookie Kiran Amegadjie is recovering from quad surgery last October. While he feels good, there’s no set timetable for his return.

The Chicago Bears held rookie minicamp this weekend, but there was one member from their five-man draft class not participating: Offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie.

Amegadjie had surgery last October to repair a partially torn quad suffered during his 2023 season at Yale, and the Bears said he won’t be participating in offseason workouts. While Amegadjie said he feels good, there’s no definitive timetable for his return.

“I mean we will see,” Amegadjie said. “We will see how everything plays out. I’m going to trust them and trust their guidance on this. I’m not a doctor. I know how my body feels and how to communicate that with them. We will see as time goes on.”

Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters Friday that the plan is for Amegadjie to be ready in time for training camp in mid-July.

Chicago selected Amegadjie in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. He ranked higher than his 75th overall selection, but his quad injury likely led to him falling to the Bears in the third round.

Bears TE Cole Kmet played through fractured right forearm in season finale

Bears TE Cole Kmet broke his right forearm in the season finale vs. Packers – which he played through – and is expected to be cleared soon.

With Super Bowl LVIII week in full swing, there are plenty of familiar Chicago Bears faces in Las Vegas on Radio Row.

That includes tight end Cole Kmet, who met with some local Chicago of media sporting a brace on his right forearm. As it turns out, Kmet fractured his right forearm in the Bears’ season finale against the Green Bay Packers — and he kept playing because he didn’t realize it.

Kmet’s injury didn’t require surgery, and he’s expected to be cleared soon, he told reporters. Kmet said it won’t impact his offseason.

Kmet is coming off a career year with the Bears, where he emerged as one of the NFL’s best tight ends. He ranked seventh in receptions (73), ninth in receiving yards (719) and second in touchdowns (6) among tight ends. Kmet signed a four-year, $50 million extension before the start of the 2023 season, so Chicago has him locked down through 2027.

Despite battling a knee injury in the final weeks — and that fractured forearm against Green Bay — Kmet has yet to miss a game in his four-year career.

Bears place center Lucas Patrick on injured reserve

Lucas Patrick’s season is done as the Bears have placed him on IR ahead of Sunday’s game vs. Packers.

The Chicago Bears made a roster move that impacts the offensive line ahead of Sunday’s season finale against the Green Bay Packers.

The Bears have placed center Lucas Patrick on injured reserve, sidelining him for Sunday’s game.

Patrick appeared in 16 games this season, which included 15 starts, where he played primarily at center. He landed on the injury report Friday with a calf injury, and he was dubbed questionable against the Packers.

With Patrick sidelined, Chicago has a few options at center. The most likely replacement is Dan Feeney, who the team acquired ahead of the start of the season in a trade with the Miami Dolphins.

While veteran Cody Whitehair, who’s not in the starting lineup with Teven Jenkins and Nate Davis at guard, has experience at center, he had issues earlier this year in Patrick’s absence. Former fifth-round pick Doug Kramer, who was elevated from the practice squad, is also an option. But he’ll likely serve as a reserve.

Patrick is set to hit the free agent market this offseason, so he very well could’ve already played his final game with the Bears.

Bears Week 18 injury report: Jaylon Johnson doubtful, Cole Kmet questionable vs. Packers

The Bears have released their final injury report and game designations ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Packers.

The Chicago Bears (7-9) released their final injury report ahead of Sunday’s Week 18 game against the Green Bay Packers (8-8).

While cornerback Jaylon Johnson said earlier this week he expected to play against the Packers, he’s officially listed as doubtful after not practicing all week with a shoulder injury.

Wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who missed last week’s game with a concussion, remains in concussion protocol and has already been ruled out.

Chicago has five players who are questionable against the Packers: tight end Cole Kmet (knee), cornerback Kyler Gordon (calf), running back Khalil Herbert (back), center Lucas Patrick (calf) and long snapper Patrick Scales (foot).

The good news? Wide receiver DJ Moore (ankle) and backup quarterback Tyson Bagent (illness) practiced in full and have no injury designation for Sunday.

Bears Week 18 injury report: Jaylon Johnson, Cole Kmet DNP Wednesday

Here’s a look at the Bears’ Week 18 injury report following Wednesday’s practice:

The Chicago Bears (7-9) released their first injury report ahead of Sunday’s Week 18 game against the Green Bay Packers (8-8).

The Bears had five players sidelined for Wednesday’s practice, including cornerback Jaylon Johnson (shoulder) and tight end Cole Kmet (knee). Johnson suffered a shoulder injury in the first half of last week’s win against the Atlanta Falcons. While Kmet did play in that game, he wasn’t involved much as he continues to battle a knee injury suffered in Week 16.

Elsewhere, long snapper Patrick Scales is dealing with a foot injury, wide receiver Darnell Mooney remains in concussion protocol and quarterback Tyson Bagent is dealing with an illness.

Wide receiver DJ Moore was limited with an ankle injury.

Bears TE Cole Kmet expected to play vs. Falcons

The Bears are expected to have one of their top offensive weapons in Cole Kmet (knee) against the Falcons.

The Chicago Bears are expected to have one of their top offensive weapons available when they host the Atlanta Falcons in their home finale Sunday.

Tight end Cole Kmet, who’s been nursing a knee injury suffered in last Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, only practice in limited fashion on Friday and was dubbed questionable against the Falcons. But according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Kmet is expected to suit up against Atlanta.

That’s huge news for Chicago’s offense, who will be without wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who has a concussion. Justin Fields will have one of his top weapons, alongside wide receiver DJ Moore, at his disposal against a talented Falcons defense.

Kmet, who signed a four-year contract extension last offseason, has been having a career year with Chicago. In 15 games, Kmet has career highs in catches (70) and yards (678) and his six touchdowns is just one shy from tying his career-best from last season.

Bears Week 17 injury report: Teven Jenkins clears protocol, Cole Kmet questionable vs. Falcons

The Bears have released their final injury report and game designations ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Falcons.

The Chicago Bears (6-9) released their final injury report ahead of Sunday’s Week 17 game against the Atlanta Falcons (7-8).

Left guard Teven Jenkins has cleared concussion protocol, so he’ll be back in the lineup on Sunday against the Falcons. Center Lucas Patrick, however, is questionable with a knee injury.

Tight end Cole Kmet, who suffered a knee injury last week, was limited on Friday and is officially questionable. Wide receiver Darnell Mooney remains in concussion protocol, and he’s already been ruled out for Sunday.
