Can the Boston Celtics latest draft picks earn real minutes next season?

Will the Boston Celtics find minutes for Baylor Scheierman or Anton Watson next season?

The Boston Celtics selected Baylor Scheierman with the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. They also selected Anton Watson with the 54th pick. Both rookies are joining a championship-winning roster and face an uphill battle to earn any legitimate playing time in Joe Mazzulla’s rotation.

Watson projects to spend the majority of next season with the Maine Celtics in the G-League. Scheierman, however, could stick with the main rotation and fight for minutes off the bench. His perimeter scoring, ball-handling and defensive rebounding are all valuable skills for the second unit.

In a recent segment on NBC Sports Boston, Brian Scalabrine, Chris Forsberg, and Eddie House discussed whether Scheierman or Watson could crack the rotation and whether they could make a legitimate impact if given the opportunity within a deep and talented rotation.

Is new Boston Celtics rookie Baylor Scheierman the Sam Hauser backup plan?

The former Creighton wing has a play style that is fairly similar to that of Hauser.

Is new Boston Celtics rookie shooting guard Baylor Scheierman the Sam Hauser backup plan? The Celtics picked up Scheierman with the final pick of the 2024 NBA draft’s first round, and the former Creighton wing has a play style that is fairly similar to that of Hauser.

The Virginia alum did just have his team option picked up by Boston’s front office, but that ironically might make the Celtics lose him in free agency at the end of next season as a result. The hosts of the CLNS Media “The Big Three NBA” podcast, A. Sherrod Blakely, Gary Washburn, and Kwani Lunis, took a closer look at the impact Scheierman could have on the Celtics, especially in light of the uncertainty surrounding Hauser’s future.

Baylor Scheierman falling to the Boston Celtics is a dream fit

His play style is similar to Sam Hauser, so he could potentially compete with him for a spot in the rotation.

While it is rare to find value with the last pick of the first round of the NBA draft, something that the Boston Celtics did very well for themselves by taking Creighton shooting guard Baylor Scheierman at No. 30 overall.

To talk it over, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast, Adam Kaufman and Evan Valenti, linked up with Matthew Perrault, co-host of “Boston vs. The Book”. Matt joins the program to talk the Celtics drafting Scheierman. Specifically, how he can steal rotation minutes through his shooting and playmaking abilities. How are Anton Watson and Baylor Scheierman part of the Boston Celtics’ future?

It will be key for the Celtics to maintain a development pipeline via the draft to keep Boston’s bench deep while the team contends.

How are 2024 NBA draft prospects Anton Watson and Baylor Scheierman part of the Boston Celtics‘ future team building plans? Under the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the Celtics and other second apron ball clubs will be severely constrained in how they can add talent to the team.

So it will be imperative for the Celtics’ front office to maintain a development pipeline through the draft to help keep Boston’s bench deep while the team aims to contend for titles. And Scheierman and Watson are just the two latest examples of that philosophy in action. With players like Sam Hauser and Luke Kornet looking at free agency now and in future offseasons, having players able to help replace them will be key.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took a closer look on a recent pod. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

What to expect from new Boston wing Baylor Scheierman

What can the Boston Celtics expect out of their 30th draft pick Baylor Scheierman.

The Boston Celtics selected Baylor Scheierman with the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The five-year college product is a polished rookie who thrives as a perimeter shooter and rebounder. He’s also proven himself to be a reliable tertiary creator when operating as a ball-handler on the wing.

In a recent episode of “The Celtics Chronicle” podcast, the hosts discuss what Scheierman will bring to Boston’s rotation and whether he can crack a rotation that won an NBA Championship this season. They also touch on whether Scheierman’s addition will spell the end of Svi Mykhailiuk’s time with the Celtics due to the rookie’s improved skillset.

Furthermore, Scheierman provides Boston with insurance in case Sam Hauser leaves the team in the coming years or is forced to miss time due to injury. Scheierman will likely earn minutes during the regular season but must prove he’s capable of producing consistently.
