Tennessee has lost another veteran player to the NCAA transfer portal.
Defensive back Baylen Buchanan announced his intentions to transfer on Wednesday.
“First and foremost, I want to start by thanking Butch Jones and the staff of 2016 for opening the door for me here at the University of Tennessee,” said Buchanan on Twitter. “In addition, I want to thank Jeremy Pruitt for continuing to believe in me as a player and consistently pushing and challenging me to be the best that I can in all facets.
“I have learned countless lessons with him about life and the game of football I will carry with me for a lifetime.”

After signing for former UT head coach Butch Jones in 2016, Buchanan started all 12 games in 2018 — Jeremy Pruitt’s first season at Tennessee. Buchanan notched 49 tackles and four pass breakups.
Buchanan joins tight ends Austin Pope and Jordan Allen, as well as quarterback J.T. Shrout and wide receiver Brandon Johnson that have entered into the transfer portal.
Buchanan has not played a snap since 2018, dealing with injuries throughout the past two seasons.
