Barcelona hosts Alaves on Saturday looking for a seventh straight win over El Glorioso, a result that would temporarily lift Ernesto Valverde’s side three points clear at the top of La Liga.

The Blaugrana were somewhat fortunate to draw 0-0 at home to Real Madrid in the first Clasico of the campaign on Wednesday and now hope to end their longest winless run this term.

Barca hasn’t yet endured a patch of more than two successive matches without a victory this season, though this is the first time the team has dropped points in back-to-back league games in 2019-20.

Alaves will take confidence when it assesses the list of Spanish teams who have taken results from Barca this campaign, potentially feeling upbeat about its own chances. Athletic Club, Osasuna, Granada, Levante, Real Sociedad, and Real Madrid have each taken points off La Liga’s defending champions since August, though none managed to do so at the Camp Nou.

Asier Garitano’s side is also held back by the fact that it is on a four-match winless run themselves. Alaves has lost its last two fixtures away from home and was knocked out of the Copa del Rey first round on Tuesday, suffering a 3-1 defeat away to third-tier Real Jaen.

Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele and midfielder Arthur Melo continued their stints on the sidelines. Dembele remains out of action with a thigh setback, while Arthur’s return has been delayed due to a snowboarding accident.

Clement Lenglet picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Real and will be suspended, meaning Jean-Clair Todibo stands a chance of replacing him in central defense.

Alaves will be relying on the striker duo of Lucas Perez (eight league goals this season) and Joselu (seven goals) to get a shock result at Camp Nou, though their defense hasn’t been as inspiring.
