Ravens DT Justin Madubuike just keeps getting sacks

Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Justin Madubuike managed to record yet another sack in the week 14 win over the Rams.

Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Justin Madubuike managed to record yet another sack in the week 14 win over the Rams. Madubuike continues to be disruptive versus the run as well, working as a key component in what has statistically been the best defensive team in the AFC.

Madubuike is now tied for No. 10 in the NFL in total sacks for 2023 and the Ravens lead the entire league in that category. The team has thrived under defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald’s system and after recording just 5.5 sacks in 2022, Madubuike has already surpassed that number in 2023.

At just the age of 26, Madubike is still operating under a four-year $4.853 million deal he signed in 2020. He’s scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in 2024 and if the Ravens stamp his career with an AFC and/or Super Bowl championship this year, Madubuike is likely to get a favorable contract in free agency.  The Ravens already attempted to sign him to an extension according to ESPN and now, Madubuike has the entire league on watch as he continues to perform at a high level.

4 takeaways from the Ravens 45-6 win over the Rams

Here’s what we learned from the Baltimore Ravens’ latest big win over the Los Angeles Rams and just how good this team actually is.

The Baltimore Ravens have extended their winning streak to seven straight with a 45-6 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12. The win secures the stranglehold the Ravens currently have over their division, as well as keeping them right behind the New England Patriots in the AFC playoff race.

But with the season ticking towards its end, it also taught us some things about the Ravens and just how good they are. Here are the four biggest takeaways from this win.

1. The Ravens are one of the most terrifying teams to play in 2019

The Ravens have won seven straight games and of those seven, you would have to go back to their Week 6 win over the Cincinnati Bengals to find the last game that they won by only one score. Every game since then has been a multi-score victory.

Lest you think that Baltimore has been beating up on cellar-dwellers, four of those wins came against the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, Houston Texans and Rams — all playoff-caliber teams with proven quarterbacks in Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, and Deshaun Watson.

The Ravens overcame some early bumps and have become one of the best teams in the league and forcing opponents to pick their poison, either burning them through the air or on the ground, or with a defense that has shown that it can score as well. Sometimes the Ravens burn teams with all three of those and that should terrify the teams remaining on their schedule, as well as whatever team they have to face in the postseason.

Lamar Jackson threads the needle to RB Mark Ingram for another TD vs. Rams

A quick TD pass to running back Mark Ingram gives Lamar Jackson his third game with at least 4 touchdown passes.

Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense is continuing to put in the work. After scoring touchdowns on each of their drives during the first half, the Ravens just opened up the second half with a drive that ended with yet another touchdown to bring the score to 35-6.

Mark Ingram ran outside before making a quick cut in to catch a pass that Jackson squeezed in between two defenders and running it in for Jackson’s fourth touchdown pass of the night and Ingram’s second total touchdown.

This the third game this season where Jackson has thrown at least four touchdown passes, with his other efforts coming against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 and the Houston Texans in Week 11.

Lamar Jackson once again makes NFL history as dual-threat QB

With his performance as a runner and a passer, Lamar Jackson now has his own spot in the NFL record books in just his second season.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been a nightmare for defenses this season. If he’s not burning them with his legs, he’s lighting them up with his arm. His dual-threat ability has made him the front-runner for MVP and in the lead among Pro Bowl voting. As if all of Jackson’s highlights aren’t enough to impress even the most ardent of deniers, he’s once again done something no NFL player has done before.

Jackson is the first player to have 3,000-plus passing yards and 1,500-plus rushing yards in his first two seasons. And to think . . . Jackson only started seven games last year and we’re only in Week 12 of his second season.

The Ravens have allowed Jackson to thrive by building an entire offense around him and the results have been evident since he made his very first start as a rookie. Baltimore was running all over opponents last year and this year they paired it up with a potent passing game now that he’s had an entire summer to work on his throwing mechanics. He’s not the traditional NFL quarterback but he’s getting the job done and more every week. If the defenders that he’s humiliated week after week aren’t proof enough, now the fact that he’s got a place in the NFL record books can.

And Jackson still isn’t done. He could very well set another NFL record by topping Michael Vick’s record of 1,039 rushing yards in a single season, as well as becoming the first quarterback to have 3,000-plus passing yards and 1,00-plus rushing yards in the same season.

Jackson has been every bit the player that the Ravens were hoping for when they traded back into the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft to select him. He’s been making every defense he’s played look foolish and now that he’s earned himself a place in NFL history, he’s making his doubters look foolish as well.

Are you ready for some football!? The Baltimore Ravens will look to extend their winning streak to seven-straight games against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12.

This is another big test for Baltimore as they look to continue their dominance over playoff-caliber teams. While Los Angeles hasn’t been great this season, they are fresh off a Super Bowl visit, so they’re certainly nothing to look down at. The Ravens will have to play great, consistent and efficient football to win this week.

Are the Rams finally the team to stop quarterback Lamar Jackson and Baltimore’s dominance? According to the writers here at Ravens Wire, not a chance. Check below to see everyone’s final score predictions for this Week 12 contest.

Matthew Stevens:

Ravens 38 – Rams 17

Man, I’m confident in this team. They have the best offense in the league and since Week 7, the best defense as well. They’re scoring points seemingly at will on both sides of the football and have been beating up playoff-caliber teams for the last few weeks. And I think the Ravens continue to do that same exact thing in front of a national audience this week as they destroy the Rams.

No team has been able to contain Lamar Jackson. It’s just been varying degrees of selling out to even attempt it and what that opens up elsewhere. If Los Angeles does what every other team this season has done and keeps their eyes in the backfield worrying about Jackson, I expect Baltimore to put up points early. From there, the Rams don’t have the offense or quarterback to play from behind and they’ll make more mistakes that compound in a lopsided loss.

Fantasy football: Week 12 sits/starts for the Ravens

A look at the fantasy appeal of the Ravens players heading into Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams.

Monday Night Football in Week 12 sees the 8-2 Baltimore Ravens travel to Los Angeles to take on the 6-4 Rams. The Ravens are on a six-game winning streak and have won their last four games by double-digits. The reigning NFC champion Rams have won three of their last four, but find themselves in third place in the NFC West behind the 9-1 San Francisco 49ers and the 8-2 Seattle Seahawks.

Here, I’ll offer my thoughts on players to start and players to sit this week. As ever, Lamar Jackson is playing, so if you’ve got him, you’re starting him.

Start at RB2 – RB, Mark Ingram

One of these weeks I am confident that I will correctly asses the fantasy value of Mark Ingram. I mean, I recommended sitting him last week due to concerns regarding his volume and production. Ingram, true to form, carried the ball only 13 times for 48 yards, the third time in four games he’s been held below four yards per attempt. But then almost out of nowhere, he catches three passes, two of which result in touchdowns. Maddening.

The Rams have been solid and unwelcoming to running backs this season. Only one running back has amassed more than 45 yards against them since Week 8. No running back has scored a rushing touchdown against them since Week 6. Tailbacks are not exactly enjoying themselves as pass catchers against them either. Tarik Cohen had five receptions against them last week, but that was the first time since Week 8 any back has had more than four catches in a game against the Rams. They’ve not allowed a running back to top 35 receiving yards since Week 1.

In his current form, I have to acknowledge that Ingram is a touchdown-dependent fantasy asset. He is not commanding a large workload, as evidenced by the fact that he has 15 or fewer carries in each of his last five games. Nor is he an every-down player, as he has played less than 66% of the Ravens offensive snaps in all but one game in 2019. If you have no other option, then he can be plugged in as an RB2. But we can’t expect him to score two receiving touchdowns ever again.
