Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (38-68) and New York Yankees (57-49) will play the rubber match of their three-game series Wednesday. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. ET from Yankee Stadium. Let’s analyze the lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Orioles RHP Matt Harvey (6-10, 6.20 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.54 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 6.9 K/9 through 94 1/3 IP.

  • Harvey has been outstanding in his last three starts, allowing zero runs in his last 18 1/3 innings with 11 strikeouts and only 10 hits allowed.
  • He pitched 6 innings and allowed just 1 run on 3 hits April 26 against the Yankees, earning the win.

Yankees RHP Jameson Taillon (7-4, 4.11 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 8.8 K/9 through 100 2/3 IP.

  • Taillon had a 1.16 ERA in five July starts while allowing just 4 earned runs across 31 innings.
  • He allowed 2 runs in 4 2/3 innings with 7 strikeouts and no walks against the Orioles April 7 in his season debut.

Prediction

Yankees 5, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

The Yankees crushed the Orioles 13-1 on Tuesday night, one day after being blown out by Baltimore, 7-1. Monday’s loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Yankees but they’ll get another streak going tonight.

They are 3-0 in Taillon’s last three starts and 6-1 in his last seven. Bet the YANKEES (-280) to win outright at home, but make it a smaller wager because of how chalky that line is.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

New York is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games while Baltimore is just 4-6 in that same span. Both pitchers have performed at a very high level in their last three starts, but the Yankees are the better team right now.

New York has given up more than 2 runs just twice in its last seven games. Outside of the Orioles’ 7-run outburst, the Baltimore offense hasn’t been putting up runs in bunches.

Take the YANKEES -1.5 (-130) to cover the spread.

Over/Under (O/U)

With as well as the Yankees’ pitching staff has been lately it’s no surprise that the total has gone Under in eight of their last 10 games.

The Orioles offense hasn’t been knocking the cover off the ball, either, which suggests this will be a lower-scoring game.

Bet the UNDER 9.5 (-120).

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (38-67) look to make it back-to-back wins against the New York Yankees (56-49) Tuesday night after taking Monday’s series opener 7-1. Let’s analyze the lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Orioles LHP Alexander Wells (1-1, 5.28 ERA) makes his third start. He has allowed 9 ER on 17 H and 9 BB with 12 K through 15 1/3 IP.

  • Wells has made just two starts and four total appearances as a rookie this season. In his two starts, he allowed 7 total runs over 10 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts and 3 home runs allowed.
  • He walked at least 2 batters in each of his four outings, most recently walking 3 across 5 innings in a loss to the Detroit Tigers.

Yankees LHP Nestor Cortes (0-0, 1.93 ERA) makes his fourth start. He has a 0.95 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 10.7 K/9 through 32 2/3 IP.

  • Cortes has made only three starts this season but has appeared in 11 total games with 7 earned runs allowed.
  • His longest outing of the season was last Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays when he spun 5 innings with 5 strikeouts and only 1 run allowed.

Prediction

Yankees 6, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

The Yankees have Cortes on the mound, which means their bullpen is likely to get a good amount of work – not necessarily a good thing for New York. Still, Wells is making just his third start of the season for the Orioles and his first two didn’t go well.

Although I like the Yankees to win outright, the money line is far too chalky for me at -280. I would PASS.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

New York is a heavy favorite at home and needs to win by at least 3 runs to cover the run line. It may seem like a tough line to bet after the Orioles just pulled off the 7-1 upset Monday; however, the Yankees should bounce back and put up quite a few runs against Wells.

Cortes has pitched well enough when called upon, too, even if his starts haven’t gone deep into games. Bet the YANKEES -2.5 (+100).

Over/Under (O/U)

The total went Under Monday night with a total of 8 runs. The Under also hit in each of the Orioles’ last five games and10-1 over the Yankees’ last 11 games, so this trend has been strong for both teams.

Take the UNDER 9.5 (+105) again Tuesday.

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The New York Yankees (56-48) host the Baltimore Orioles (37-67) for a three-game series, beginning Monday. First pitch from Yankee Stadium will be at 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Orioles RHP Jorge Lopez (2-12, 6.19 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.68 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 through 96 IP.

  • The Orioles won the last three games started by Lopez despite him allowing 10 runs over just 11 1/3 combined innings.
  • He had a 7.20 ERA in June and July, posting a record of just 1-6 in those two months.

Yankees LHP Andrew Heaney (6-7, 5.27 ERA) makes his 19th start of the season and his first with the Yankees. He has a 1.31 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9 and 10.8 K/9 through 94 IP.

  • Heaney is making his Yankees debut after being traded by the Los Angeles Angels; he allowed 3 or fewer runs in three of his last four starts.
  • He has five starts with at least 8 strikeouts this season and has allowed only 2 home runs in his last four starts after allowing 3 against the Yankees June 29.

Prediction

Yankees 7, Orioles 4

Money line (ML)

The Yankees have gotten into a groove in the last week or so, going 6-2 over their last eight games. They swept the Miami Marlins and took two of three from the Tampa Bay Rays the series prior and have held opponents to 3 or fewer runs in six of their last eight games.

As much as I like the Yankees, I’ll PASS on the money line at -270 and much prefer to bet the spread.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

New York is an impressive 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games, all of which were on the road. The Yankees covered in each of their three games as favorites against the Marlins and should keep that up against the Orioles, who are only 5-5 ATS in that same span.

Bet the YANKEES -1.5 (-130) to cover the spread at home tonight.

Over/Under (O/U)

Surprisingly, it has been the Yankees pitching that has been dominant lately, which has caused the total to go Under in nine of their last 10 games. With Heaney on the mound and Lopez pitching for the Orioles, this has the makings of a high-scoring game.

Take the OVER 9.5 (-130).

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (3-2) and New York Yankees (3-2) close out their AL East weekday series Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP John Means is the projected starting pitcher for the Orioles. In 2020, he went 2-4 with a 4.53 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 8.7 K/9, and 1.4 BB/9 in 43 2/3 IP over 10 starts. Means was sharp in his 2021 debut, allowing only 1 hit over 7 scoreless innings while striking out 5 against the Boston Red Sox April 2.

RHP Jameson Taillon toes the slab for the first time since May 1, 2019. Taillon missed all of 2020 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He owns a 3.67 ERA over 82 career starts.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Orioles +1.5 (-120) | Yankees -1.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Yankees 4, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

New York struggled against southpaws a year ago, and Means was certainly sharp in his season debut. Taillon is a big question mark, although he did fan 14 batters over 8 1/3 IP in spring training.

Albeit in a small sample, he does have a history of getting off to good starts in April (3.68 ERA in 17 March/April starts), and Wednesday, Taillon is supported by the best arms in the Yankees bullpen. Wins by scores of 7-0 and 7-2 Monday and Tuesday did not stress the back end of New York’s relief corps.

The lines here figure to bracket the true odds on both sides. PASS.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

There isn’t a ton to like about this play either, but the most likable side of the four (the ML and run-line wagers) is BALTIMORE +1.5 (-120).

It’s an inexpensive play on Means as a solid breakout candidate for 2021 and an acknowledgment of the Yanks’ potential struggles against left-handers and the conservative approach with Taillon.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Yankees are looking to close out a three-game sweep of the Orioles, a team that hasn’t done much offensively outside of a six-double, 11-run game at Boston Sunday.

Means is an extreme fly-baller. Normally that’s not a calling card of successful pitchers at Yankee Stadium, but the Wednesday evening weather report calls for low humidity and a pitcher’s breeze in from center field.

BACK THE UNDER 9 (+100).

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (3-1) and New York Yankees (2-2) continue their AL East weekday series Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Dean Kremer is the projected starting pitcher for the Orioles. Kremer made four starts in 2020 and went 1-1 with a 4.82 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 10.6 K/9 and 5.8 BB/9 in 18 2/3 IP. Two of those starts were against the Yankees (Sept. 6 and 12); both were effective, as he combined for 11 IP with 5 hits and 2 ER allowed while fanning 14.

RHP Gerrit Cole is tabbed for start No. 2 this season for the Yankees. Cole allowed 2 runs over 5 1/3 IP in New York’s season opener. His velocity was sharp, and he whiffed 8 in the outing. Current Baltimore bats have flailed their way to a strikeout-heavy .607 OPS against the 30-year-old ace.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Orioles +2.5 (-120) |  Yankees -2.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 8 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Yankees 5, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

New York got its flagship sluggers going in Monday’s 7-0 win over the O’s. OF Aaron Judge hit a porch job to right and DH Giancarlo Stanton launched a majestic 470-footer to left-center. Add in the fact C Gary Sanchez already has two bombs, and this may not be the right time to be facing the Yankees, especially in their home yard.

Cole held opposing bats to a .602 OPS in Yankee Stadium last season. He posted a 1.83 ERA in three starts against the Birds.

New York is 24-5 over its last 29 games against Baltimore. The price tag here may scare some bettors off or put them in the Orioles camp, but if you can get to a point where you consider New York a .680 club with Cole and Baltimore with Kremer-and-pen a .380 club, there is value to be had on the favorite.

Take the YANKEES (-300).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

For Yankees bettors unable to make that .680/.380 leap, consider NEW YORK -1.5 (-145) on the alternate run line. Cole and the rested top relievers of the Yankees is a solid side to be on.

The ML play is still more of a lean, though, because it has reached a point of no return for some. I would argue that point has been reached without significant justification.

Over/Under (O/U)

Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Baltimore Orioles (3-0) and New York Yankees (1-2) meet for the first time in 2021 Monday at 6:35 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Orioles vs. Yankees odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Jorge Lopez is the projected starting pitcher for the Orioles. Last season, Lopez went 2-2 with a 6.69 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 6.5 K/9, and 2.8 BB/9 in 39 IP over nine appearances. Against these Yankees, he faced 21 batters, allowing just four base runners (three hits, walk) and no extra-base hits. Lopez won this slot in the O’s rotation by posting a 2.75 ERA in six spring training appearances.

LHP Jordan Montgomery is the projected starting pitcher for the Yankees. Last year, Montgomery went 2-3 with a 5.11 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 9.6 K/9, and 1.8 BB/9 in 44 IP over 10 starts. Baltimore bats own a whiff-heavy .550 OPS against the Yankee southpaw that returned from Tommy John surgery last season.

Orioles at Yankees odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 1:40 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Orioles +180 (bet $100 to win $180) | Yankees -225 (bet $225 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Orioles +1.5 (+100) |  Yankees -1.5 (-120)
  • Over/Under: 9.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Yankees 5, Orioles 3

Money line (ML)

Pegging the Yankees as a near-.600 club and the Orioles as a near-.400 one, and giving Montgomery a nod in the starter department, New York’s American League entry is worth more than a -200 price for this one. Up to -225 is reasonable.  PASS ON THE JUICE-FILLED PRICES AS LISTED.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Last season, New York went 7-3 against Baltimore. Five of the Yanks’ wins were by a two-run cushion or more.

The Yankees are just the slightest lean as the batting-last home side with an Under shade. Consider a partial-unit play on NEW YORK -1.5 (-120).

Over/Under (O/U)

New York’s potent offense has been kept under wraps by a lackluster performance with runners in scoring position. A warmed-up (63 degrees at first pitch in the forecast) Yankee Stadium with a projected double-digit wind out to right would appear to be the right medicine for turning an offense around.

But both starting pitchers do well to keep the ball on the ground (so, in fact, do both bullpen units). Montgomery figures to be stingy in yielding hard contact. Baltimore’s early offensive numbers have been somewhat underpinned by a high batting average on balls in play, particularly in high-leverage situations.

To all of the at is added a tag with some room for value below. TAKE THE UNDER 9.5 (-105).
