Lonzo Ball explains decision of wearing social justice message on jersey in NBA’s restart

Lonzo Ball has been outspoken on social justice matters and recently explained the social justice message on the back of his NBA jersey.

During the quarantine period, Lonzo Ball and his brothers took part in the social justice movements in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. The trio took part in a protest in Chino Hills and shared messages on social media in support of the movement.

In the bubble, Ball sported the phrase “Equality” on the back of his jersey. He spoke about the importance of spreading light on the situation when speaking to the media about joining the movement. In Sunday’s episode of “Ball in the Family,” he talked more about his decision to have a phrase on the back of his jersey.

“You know, Black Lives Matter and equality is a big thing. I have it on my jersey as well. I figure everybody knows my last name is Ball. Hopefully now everybody knows what equality is at some point.”

Ball, teammate JJ Redick and Saints linebacker Demario Davis all joined the Social Justice Leadership Coalition during the global lockdown, though nothing has come of the coalition so far. Still, Ball has been outspoken on the matter, a surprisingly positive change given his typical quiet manner off the court.

After a long break between seasons, the Ball family’s Facebook reality series “Ball in the Family” is set to return on Sunday for its sixth season.

After a long break between seasons, the Ball family’s Facebook reality series “Ball in the Family” is set to return on Sunday for its sixth season. The fifth season came to a close in February and, after a lengthy break, a new season is set to bring back the drama and excitement around the family.

The series will take a look at how close all three brothers are to reaching the NBA as LaMelo goes through his pre-draft process, LiAngelo works his way into the G League and Lonzo plays through his first season in New Orleans.

The on-again, off-again relationship between Lonzo Ball and Denise Garcia will continue to be a theme of the show as their daughter, Zoey, continues to grow. The future of Big Baller Brand also is at the center of the show as LaMelo signs with Puma and Lonzo hints at starting his own company.

The first episode of the series picks the family up after the end of quarantine as Lonzo heads to the NBA’s bubble in Orlando and LaMelo and LiAngelo head to Detroit to begin training for the upcoming season.

The first episode is set to premiere on Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern. Take a look at the trailer for the upcoming season.
