Only one person was playing Babylon’s Fall on PC last week

The loneliest number, indeed.

Babylon’s Fall, the game industry’s punching bag as of late, took another reputational beating recently. Someone better have that “stop he’s already dead” meme from The Simpsons ready.

As first spotted by VGC, only one person was playing the PC version of Babylon’s Fall last Wednesday. Yes, a single person. You thought things couldn’t get worse than only 10 concurrent players. Think again, bucko.

That statistic may sound unfathomable for a multiplayer title by the legendary Platinum Games, but this isn’t Bayonetta. According to Steam Charts data, Babylon’s Fall regularly dips below nine concurrent players these days. So it’s not as if only one person playing the game is far-fetched, despite how abysmal that sounds.

Funnily enough, the lonesome legend is allegedly games journalist Dashiell Wood. Who revealed themselves on Saturday.

As someone that follows Wood on Twitter, I can confirm that they’re into Babylon’s Fall. Talk about a Phantom of the Opera mask-off moment.

There are days when Babylon’s Fall has upwards of 50 concurrent players on Steam, but never much higher than that. The all-time peak is only 1,155 people, which is hilariously bad for a full-priced RPG from Square Enix that only came out on March 3, 2022.

With how many solid online multiplayer titles are out there, even of the free-to-play variety, there’s not much use sticking with something like Babylon’s Fall.

Babylon’s Fall drops below 10 concurrent players on PC this week

Things aren’t looking great for the multiplayer action RPG.

Babylon’s Fall, the action RPG from Platinum Games and Square Enix, saw some record-low player counts on PC this week.

As spotted by TechRadar, Babylon’s Fall‘s concurrent player count fell to a measly eight users on April 13, 2022, according to SteamCharts. In the past 30 days, an average of 130 people booted Babylon’s Fall, with the all-time peak being only 1,155 players. These are staggeringly low numbers across the board for a game that only came out on March 3, 2022.

Square Enix isn’t giving up on Babylon’s Fall despite the dismal numbers. In early March, the company stated that there were no plans to scale back development, with the recent NieR: Automata crossover event proving that the content rollout is still chugging along.

Babylon’s Fall is also one of the worst received games in 2022 thus far. Critics absolutely demolished it, with the action RPG hovering around 40/100 on reviews aggregate Metacritic. Quite the opposite of Elden Ring, which coincidentally came out Feb. 25, 2022, the same day as the pre-launch demo for Babylon’s Fall that didn’t build anyone’s confidence.

Time will tell if future updates help, but things aren’t looking good for Babylon’s Fall so far.

Babylon’s Fall demo is coming on February 25

Here are some key dates for the action RPG from Platinum Games.

The action RPG oddity that is Babylon’s Fall is finally getting a lengthy demo, and it’s coming much sooner than many were expecting.

The demo for Babylon’s Fall will release Feb. 25, 2022, at 1:00 A.M. PDT // 4:00 A.M. EDT for PS4 and PS5. There are no requirements for accessing the demo either, besides the fact that it’s exclusive to PlayStation consoles (sorry, PC fans). The demo will allow would-be adventurers to explore the game’s opening section while also testing out its four-player online co-op.

Square Enix also gave us a few extra details on Babylon’s Fall early access period, which begins Feb. 28, 2022, at 1:00 A.M. PDT // 4:00 A.M. EDT for PlayStation consoles, and PC at 9:00 A.M. PDT // 12 P.M. EDT. Keep in mind that taking part in early access means you’ll need to pick up the Digital Deluxe Edition.

The full release for Babylon’s Fall is March 3, 2022, at 1:00 A.M. PDT // 4:00 A.M. EDT for PlayStation consoles, and PC at 9:00 A.M. PDT // 12 P.M. EDT.

Babylon’s Fall will mark a lot of firsts for developer Platinum Games, specifically the studio’s first live-service title — which CEO and co-founder Atsushi Inaba wants to make more often. Fine aspiration, though launching the demo for Babylon’s Fall on Elden Ring’s release day seems like perhaps not the best idea.
