You played for three teams during the 2021 calendar year. Is moving your shoe collection one of the hardest parts about changing teams? PJ Tucker: That is definitely the toughest part of my life. I can move or switch teams any time if I have to and I’ll be fine. But moving my stuff?! Oh my God. It is an actual process. This year was the toughest because I had to go from Houston to Milwaukee to Miami. I just had so many things that didn’t make it with me on the trips from Houston to Milwaukee and then Milwaukee to Houston. There was just so much! It’s not easy to transport the stuff that I wear during games. My assistant had to fly down to Houston and ship boxes down to Miami that I knew I wanted to wear during games and also just off the court. It’s a process, man.

Do you have any perspective on where the sneaker market is headed in the next few years? PJ Tucker: It’s actually weird you ask that because I was literally just having that conversation right before this. It’s so hard to predict! I saw somewhere that tried to predict the annual growth of the sneaker market and it was astronomical numbers. It’s so hard to put a limit on it because with social media and how crazy the internet is, sneakers go viral so fast. When a new designer does something, it gets so much attention. More and more people get access and get all this stuff and to be able to see what’s coming, it’s so hard. I have no idea.

Basketball fans hoping to buy something from Bill Russell’s memorabilia collection should expect some big-name competition. Hall of Famers Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley say they’re interested in bidding on items that Russell — a civil rights icon and the most decorated champion in team sports history — is selling off. An online auction with 429 lots began last week and will culminate in a live event at the TD Garden on Friday. “I’d like to take some of that stuff off their hands,” O’Neal said on TNT’s “Inside the NBA” on Tuesday night. “To be able to have all 11 of those rings, nobody’s outbidding me on that one.”

In fact, Russell is only selling two NBA championship rings — his first and his last — along with his Hall of Fame ring, one commemorating his two NCAA titles, another for making the NBA’s 50th anniversary team and one the league gave him for winning the most titles in professional team sports history. Also on the block are his Olympic gold medal, his final Celtics jersey, his honorary law degree from Harvard — along with the cap and gown he wore for the ceremony — and a scrapbook page with a signed letter from Jackie Robinson thanking Russell and four Black teammates for refusing to play in a 1961 exhibition in segregated Kentucky.

The items, which have a combined estimated value running into the millions, include signed shoes, shorts and shirts Russell accumulated during a career in which he won 11 NBA titles — the last two as a player-coach and the first Black head coach in any U.S. major pro sport. The most valuable item — already over $400,000 in online bidding through Thursday afternoon — is expected to be the jersey Russell wore in his last game, in the 1969 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Going under the hammer in Geneva will be a pair of high-top Nike sneakers from the late NBA star Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard who died in a helicopter crash in California last year. The blue, white and gold Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 basketball shoes are expected to fetch up to 35,000 Swiss francs (about $38,000) during a Nov. 11 sale at Sotheby’s. Bryant wore the sneakers in a March 17, 2004, victory over the L.A. Clippers, according to the auction house.

Darren Rovell: On the left is a Luka card bought this week with a real autograph and a game worn jersey. At $75K, in this market, it makes sense. On the right, is a questionable auto with a jersey tried on for a photoshoot. This price, in an auction that closed tonight, makes no sense.

Darren Rovell: This card in a PSA 9 sold for $26,877 on eBay tonight. eBay sales of this card in this condition put this insane market in perspective. Is it real? If so, how long will it last? 4/2/20: $6,100. 5/9/20: $9,000. 6/8/20: $10,400. 7/20/20: $12,750. 7/29/20: $15,700. 8/31/20: $26,877.
