Transfer portal wideout receives offer from Auburn

Auburn has offered a transfer portal wide receiver amid its outgoing wideout transfers this season.

In lieu of recent wide receiver transfers, Auburn is looking to the portal and offered former Arkansas State wideout Corey Rucker on Tuesday.

Rucker played for Arkansas State the past two years, but his best season came in 2021 where he racked up 826 yards and nine touchdowns for the Red Wolves on 59 receptions. His freshman year wasn’t too bad, either — he only played in six games, but still managed 453 yards and five touchdowns on 16 receptions. Rucker was an FWAA Freshman All-American and made the All-Sun Belt 2nd Team during his 2021 campaign at Arkansas State.

Rucker, who was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, initially committed to the South Alabama Jaguars before flipping to Arkansas State in 2020. He’s been a sought-after transfer target, having received interest from other SEC schools such as South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.

The Tigers could certainly use the receiver help. Wideouts Ja’Varrius Johnson, Kobe Hudson and other Auburn receivers left the program during this offseason’s wave of transfers, and the Tigers are trying to fill that hole in production with the offer to Rucker. Auburn has yet to land a receiver in the transfer portal this offseason.

Auburn fires wide receivers’ coach Cornelius Williams

What do you think of this move?

The former Troy University wide receivers’ coach has been let go, per Justin Hokanson.

Cornelius Williams spent the previous six years at Troy before being hired to coach wide receivers at Auburn. Williams was three games into his first season with the Tigers. Williams has also spent time at UAB and Jacksonville State. His prowess on the recruiting trail intrigued fans before the season began, but unfortunately the on the field product was not impressive. Auburn’s receivers has struggled to create separation consistently. Communication and drops have also been an issue. How Auburn evaluates and coaches the position moving forward is up in the air. More details to come.

Auburn freshmen impact (No. 13: Tar’Varish Dawson)

Get to know Auburn freshman Tar’Varish Dawson.

This is the fourth article in a series detailing and ranking the incoming Auburn freshmen’s impact in 2021.

Name: Tar’Varish Dawson

Position: Wide Receiver

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 165 lbs

Hometown: Fort Meyers, Florida

High School: Lehigh Senior

Twitter: TarvarishD

His impact in 2021: In a young receiver room, Dawson may be hidden in the depth chart until 2022. However, he has tremendous upside as an athlete. He had eight receptions for 690 yards with nine touchdown catches and 290 rushing yards with six touchdown runs plus seven interceptions as a senior. He also had a punt return for a touchdown. Tar’Varish is a speedy athlete that could see the field in multiple ways during his time with the Tigers. Give him a year to get his feet wet.

Auburn Spring Practice: Who steps up at the wide receiver position?

Auburn has an inexperienced but talented wide receivers corps that will need to step up for the Tigers’ passing game in 2021.

I have a lot of questions about every aspect of Auburn football ahead of spring practice, but the wide receiver position is by far the most mysterious. This offseason the Tigers lost the majority of their wide receiver production in the departures of Seth Williams, Eli Stove, and Anthony Schwartz to the NFL.

It’s ‘next man up’ time and there are many fresh faces due to step up for the Tigers. I have no idea what the starting lineup is going to look like as that is Cornelius Williams’ job, but here’s everybody who’ll be competing:
