Auburn vs Tennessee Game Preview

Why Auburn Will Win

The defense continues to be terrific from the outside, and overall the team is built to hold up in defensive fights.

It’s great on the offensive boards, the D is aggressive enough to force just enough mistakes to get on the move, and stopping the Vols from getting the offense going shouldn’t be a problem.

Auburn is 12-0 when teams fail to hit 30% from three, and 15-1 when keeping teams to 36% or under. Tennessee has only gone past that eight times and it’s going to struggle to get the O going here, but …

Why Tennessee Will Win

The Vol defense is a killer.

It’s second in the nation in scoring defense and No. 1 in field goal percentage D. For all of the good things Auburn does, it’s not great at coming up with points from the outside and it’s not anything special on the free throw line.

In a game where scoring every point will be like pulling teeth, the little things will matter.

The defense is the star, but the offense is a huge help by not giving it up in bunches. Auburn is 13-1 when forcing 12 or more takeaways, and the Vols haven’t been that sloppy all that often at home.

What’s Going To Happen

Don’t expect a whole slew of points.

Auburn will be great on the boards and will hang with Tennessee punch for punch, but it’ll come down to hitting that key three to push ahead. The home side will get that – and hit a few more free throws – to get out in a fun one.

Auburn vs Tennessee Game Preview

Why Auburn Will Win

The Tigers have had to fight a bit too hard over the last few games, but they’ve been able to win three of the last four after losing at Arkansas.

They continue to be great defensively – seven of the last nine teams failed to get to 40% from the field – and they’ve been better moving the ball around.

How do you know the Tiger offense is working? The assists.

Auburn failed to get to ten assists just twice all year – once was in the loss to Arkansas, and the other was in the loss at Florida. The offense was able to get to double-digit assists in every other game with the only loss coming to UConn way back in November.

Tennessee has allowed fewer than ten assists just once in nine of the last ten games in 15 of the last 17.

But …

– Latest Polls AP | Coaches

Why Tennessee Will Win

Tennessee has been lights out at home going 14-0 including a blowout win over Kentucky last week.

It shoots well overall no matter what, but it’s particularly great at home, it was on fire from three against UK, hit 20-of-23 from the free throw line, and it didn’t get destroyed on the boards.

Yeah, Auburn has to move the ball around well to win – and it will – but Tennessee leads the SEC in assists per game and is among the nation at generating steals.

Auburn isn’t all that bad when it comes to turnovers, but it’s been struggling a bit lately compared to earlier in the year with ten or more in nine of the last ten games.

Top 25 Game Previews, Predictions

What’s Going To Happen

Tennessee is too good at home, and Auburn has lost its last two on the road.

The Tigers will rise up defensively to keep this close, but the Volunteers should be able to shoot over the top of the D and should have just enough points off of turnovers to matter.

It’ll be a fun, spirited game with a whole lot of energy. Tennessee will hang on in the final moments.

Why Tennessee Will Win

Can Jarrett Guarantano somehow recreate the magic of a few years ago?

The Vols were able to beat Auburn in 2018 when Guarantano went off for 328 yards, two touchdown passes, and a whole slew of big plays. The Vols either need him to catch fire, or hope the experience Harrison Bailey got in the Arkansas game is enough to be ready to step in and give the Tigers trouble.

Auburn might be finding ways to come up with wins, but the defense hasn’t been great at getting off the field – Tennessee has to somehow keep the chains moving. The Tiger pass defense got hit by LSU for 315 yards, and the run D that got ripped up by Ole Miss a few weeks ago.

There isn’t one glaring weakness on the AU D, but it’s generally just okay. However …

Why Auburn Will Win

Tennessee is a strange mess. The offense that looked like it would grow into a thing after the first three weeks just sort of stopped. Granted, Kentucky keeps scores low and Alabama is Alabama, but the 302 yards put up in 31-point loss to the Tide marked the only time the Vols get over 300 in the last four games.

The running game isn’t working, the passing attack managed 107 yards against Arkansas, and nothing seems to be happening even with the offensive line not playing all that poorly.

Auburn has its issues – congrats on being the last win in the Will Muschamp era at South Carolina – but it’s finding ways to win.

Did it catch a break against Ole Miss? Yeah. Did it catch a monster break against Ole Miss? Oh yeah. But it’s the SEC. If you’re 4-2, you won four games, you take them, you don’t ask questions, and you move on.

As much as Bo Nix and the passing game have to do a better job of clicking, the offense has managed both 200 yards rushing and receiving in each of the last three games, and is coming off its best performance of the season with a big day against LSU.

What’s Going To Happen

The losing coach in this won’t be Muschamped, but the fan base will get really, really, really grouchy.

Auburn has more of its stuff together and should be consistent enough offensively to survive – at least compared to Tennessee. The Vols don’t do any one offensive thing well, and the defense isn’t taking the ball away enough to matter.

Auburn (24-6) vs. Tennessee (17-13) Game Preview

If want in on this week’s games, sign up with BetMGM

Why Auburn Will Win

The Tigers came up with a 73-66 win just a few weeks ago at home over the Vols. They got out rebounded and outshot, but they won with relative ease by forcing lots and lots of turnovers.

The Vols might have a great defense, and they come up with a whole lot of blocked shots, but they alway give up a whole lot of mistakes. Auburn doesn’t generate a whole lot of pressure, but it can force easy points.

Do that, hit from three against a shaky Tennessee defense from the outside, and the offense should click again.

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Tennessee Will Win

Auburn’s been lousy lately.

It lost its last two games and four of its last six – around the win over Tennessee – by going dead-cold from three way too often.

The 1-of-17 performance was an issue against Missouri, but overall the threes just haven’t been falling. Even in the win over Tennessee, AU only hit 35% from the outside.

The Vols are too good defensively on the inside. As long as they’re not turning the ball over like they did in the first game they should be able to at least hang around.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s the final home game of the regular season for Tennessee in a must-win game. It’s been red hot from the field over the last few games, and it’ll stay strong with a big victory to keep NCAA Tournament hopes alive.

Tennessee Vols at #13 Auburn Tigers: Preview, Prediction, TV Channel, Live Stream, How to Watch

Watch Tennessee Vols at #13 Auburn Tigers Live Online.

Tennessee will travel to Auburn Saturday afternoon to take on No. 13 Auburn. The Vols are looking for a win against former head coach Bruce Pearl, which would be a feather in their cap.

This is a must-win game for Tennessee to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive but they have struggled as of late going 3-3 even with some impressive wins against Alabama and Arkansas. They will look to Senior guard Jordan Bowden, who leads the Vols in scoring with 13.0 points per game to show out today and build that confidence that they would need going into the tourney.

The Vols aren’t the only ones that have struggled their last few games with the Tigers losing consecutive games to Missouri and Georgia, they will need to bounce back to make sure they don’t fall further in the rankings. Auburn will need Samir Doughty to step up today and hit those three-pointers that he’s known for, with 43 on the season.

Prediction: With Tennesee on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament conversation this becomes a must-win scenario for them. I’d take the Vols and the points (+6.5) and expect them to cover in this matchup.
