Takeaways from Auburn basketball’s 83-60 win over Georgia

All eyes now turn to Kentucky.

It was never in doubt.

No. 2 Auburn handled business against Georgia on Wednesday night, winning 83-60. The Tigers will now prep for No. 12 Kentucky on Saturday.

It was a huge win that Auburn didn’t play well in. The Tigers shot underneath their averages and still managed to win by 23. From an efficiency standpoint, it was not the greatest day for Auburn, but Tom Crean’s Bulldogs have not put up much of a fight against anyone this season, and they did not do so tonight. Even though Georgia outscored Auburn by two in the second half, it never really felt like UGA was in the ballgame.

Here are five takeaways from Auburn’s big win over the Georgia Bulldogs.

Auburn basketball massive favorites over the Georgia Bulldogs

Oddsmakers think that Auburn will win this game BIG.

The Georgia Bulldogs’ men’s basketball team: not akin to their football brethren.

Tom Crean & Co. have have a rough start to the 2021-22 season, thus far having posted a 5-12 record, with an 0-4 mark in conference play.

The defense for the Dawgs of the hardwood is even further from comparison to the stout unit the 2021 National Championship team had. A fun fact about the Bulldogs:

Georgia has played 13 teams ranked 200th or higher in the KenPom rankings.

They held only *one* of those opponents (Wofford) underneath their average PPG. The UGA D bends to the will of its opponent. This does not bode well against a team such as Auburn that will not only be playing at home, but they will be playing at home with a chip on their shoulder after not being ranked No. 1 in the latest AP Poll. Will Georgia bend to the will of Auburn’s offense (averaging 80.6 points per game) on Wednesday night?

The oddsmakers seem to agree that this will be a certain victory for the Tigers. Here are the odds for tomorrow’s matchup.

How to watch the Auburn basketball game vs the Georgia Bulldogs

This one is going to be wild.

At 16-1, Auburn basketball feels like it needs to do better.

The Tigers were robbed of a No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll on Monday, and the point of emphasis for Coach Bruce Pearl was that the team needed to do better.

If they feel disrespected, in any sort of way, I would pray for Tom Crean’s Georgia Bulldogs as they make their way into Auburn Arena on Wednesday night.

No SEC game is going to be easy, at home or on the road. But the perception is that the Bulldogs are simply Auburn’s tune-up opponent for what lies ahead… the No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday.

Why Auburn Will Win

There weren’t any problems the first time around. Auburn got up at home a month ago against the Bulldogs and coasted from there in an 82-60 win. The O was red hot from the field, the rebounding was great, and it was an easy scrimmage.

Georgia has lost four straight and ten of its last 12, with a defense that’s not slowing down anyone, too many mistakes, and nothing happening from three despite lots and lots of attempts.

As long as Auburn can get up early and hit the occasional three, all should be okay. That’s not a given, though, because …

Why Georgia Will Win

Auburn is coming off a strange 85-73 blowout loss to a mediocre Missouri team. And why?

1-of-17 from three.

Auburn couldn’t get anything going against the other Tigers, and worse yet, the defense couldn’t come up with any key stops to get back into the game.

Georgia needs a little luck. It’s okay at defending from three, and it’s great on the boards – especially on the offensive side – but Auburn has to stay cold. It shoots a whole lot from the outside, but it’s only connecting on 30% of its tries.

The Bulldogs have to get up early, stay active, and withstand the certain scoring runs.

What’s Going To Happen

Auburn will get its offense back.

It’ll hit enough from three to be fine, Georgia’s defense won’t be able to do enough in transition off of too many turnovers, and it’ll be an entertaining win for the Tigers to get back on track.
