First half analysis: Texas A&M 14, Auburn 10

Auburn trails Texas A&M 14-10 at halftime and the Tigers will have to be a lot better defensively if they want to win this game.

Auburn has used a goal-line stand and some magic from Bo Nix on a run to stay in this game despite being overwhelmed in the trenches by Texas A&M as the Tigers trail just 14-10 at the half.

Here are some thoughts from the first 30 minutes:

  • Bo Nix missing that wide-open pass to Eli Stove? Yeah, that was ugly. He certainly made up for it with that touchdown run though.

WATCH: Bo Nix magically escapes a sack and rushes for a touchdown

  • The Aggies’ offensive line is as good as advertised as they have been shredding Auburn on the ground and Kellen Mond has had a lot of time in the pocket. This is nothing new from the Tigers this season though. The lack of pass rush is brutal to watch.
  • Tank Bigsby needs to learn that he won’t be able to run sideways against good SEC defenses.
  • The Tigers showed some pride with that goal-line stand that resulted in the missed field goal. We need more of that.
  • I’m going to call myself out here because I sent this after Auburn’s first offensive drive. Yes, I might have overreacted but I will stand by it and not delete it.

  • The first drive of the second half will be huge after A&M drove down the field in no time and scored right before halftime. Auburn needs to regain some momentum.
  • Auburn used exactly zero timeouts in the first half. That’s interesting and I’m not exactly sure the reason why.
  • When has Auburn’s run defense ever been this bad? This is not a hypothetical question. I am seriously wondering if I have ever seen a Tigers defense get absolutely ambushed on the ground like this. Isaiah Spiller is at least seven yards down the field before he is even touched.
  • Sending out an alert to my National Senior Correspondent, Rett Moncrief, who has been silent so far today. Same goes for Guy Davis and David Thrasher who apparently are not aware that there is a football game today.
