The Kansas City Chiefs have two draft picks remaining on Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Chiefs’ fourth-round selection will have a special guest announcer on Saturday. An athlete from Special Olympics Missouri will have a chance to make the pick for Kansas City.
The NFL selected Arthur Murphy to participate in the draft because he’s been a lifelong fan of the Chiefs and a tremendous representative of the Special Olympics. Here’s what Chiefs PR had to say about Murphy announcing the pick in the 2020 NFL Draft:
“Each year, the NFL gets creative with how it announces the team’s draft selections in Rounds 4-7. This year, Arthur Murphy, a Special Olympics Missouri athlete will announce one of the Chiefs draft picks on Day 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft. Last fall, Coach Reid participated in a PSA for Special Olympics Missouri following a tornado that destroyed the Training for Life campus. “
The Chiefs even shared a photo of Arthur and Reid from that day:
“I am excited to see my friend Arthur help announce one of our picks this weekend,” Reid said in a press release. “I’ve always been a big fan of the Special Olympics and the work they do in our communities. We are lucky to have Arthur represent Chiefs Kingdom.”
It’s very cool that the NFL has found a way to include this amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. It’ll surely inspire a lot of hope among many athletes who are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to compete again.
