Every NFL team has the mandate to cut their training camp rosters down to 80. One of the cuts the Pittsburgh Steelers had to make in order to accommodate the rule was defensive back Arrion Springs. It just so happens the Steelers had to wait to make the move until Springs came off the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Pittsburgh had to wait to release Springs until he was activated off the list by rule. Springs now must wait to see if he can find a spot on another NFL roster or perhaps bide his time and find his way to an NFL practice squad closer to the start of the season.

Springs is heading into his third NFL season but was a longshot to make the Steelers final roster. This became more complicated when Pittsburgh signed safety Curtis Riley last week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have their first player to be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. According to the team, defensive back Arrion Springs was placed on the list. Springs is entering his third season in the NFL.

Here is the purpose and definition of the reserve/COVID-19 list per the article above:

The NFL created the reserve/COVID-19 list for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person(s). If a player falls into either of these categories, their club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Per agreed upon NFL-NFLPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on player’s medical status other than referring to roster status. Clubs may not disclose whether player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID 19.

We don’t know if Springs is on the list due to a positive test of or simply in quarantine and per the policy the team will not disclose this information.
