Maria José Marin earns first-team All-American honors as a freshman

Stacy Lewis the best golfer in Arkansas history. But she’s gonna have some company sooner rather than later.

Stacy Lewis is unquestionably the greatest golfer in Arkansas women’s golf history. Maybe in school history regardless of gender.

But if Maria Jose Marin keeps up what she accomplished in his freshman season, a legitimate debate can be had in three more years.

José Marin was named first-team All-American by the Division I Women’s Golf Coaches Association on Friday. She is just the 10th Razorbacks women’s golfer to earn first-team honors and the first since 2018-19

Only 11 golfers in the country were named to the first team. José Marin had previously been named to the All-SEC First Team and the All-Freshman Team. She was also previously named SEC Freshman of the Year. Her first season of college golf ended with her ranked sixth in the country and 20th among all amateurs in the world.

Next year, José Marin could become only fifth Arkansas women’s golfer in history to earn first-team honors twice. She would join Lewis, who is the only Razorbacks athlete to do three times, Maria Fassi (2017-18, 18-19), Gaby Lopez (2013-14, 14-15) and Emily Tubert (2010-11, 11-12).

In the the meantime, José Marin will play for Team International at the Arnold Palmer Cup in Ireland in early July and she has also been invited to play in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships in Tulsa in early August.

The Razorbacks capped the 2023-24 season as the No. 10-ranked team in the country after finishing 10th at the NCAA Championships.

Arkansas’ season ends with second best showing at NCAAs ever

Two seniors called it a career and one freshman showed she’s the best since Stacy Lewis.

What a way to finish the year for the Arkansas women’s golf team.

The Razorbacks’ season is over after they shot a 12-over in the fourth round of the NCAA Championship, missing the cut on Monday. But their finish was not exactly shabby as Arkansas finished 10th in the tournament and with the second lowest score at the NCAAs in school history.

Maria Jose Marin, as she did most of the year, led the way for the Hogs. Over the four days, she notched a 5-under 283 to finish in a tie for fourth individually. Her finish marks the fifth time Arkansas has had a top-five finisher since 2019 and her score is the lowest over four rounds since Stacy Lewis’ 287 in 2007.

From Marin’s impressive freshman season to Kajal Mistry’s and Miriam Ayora’s final hoorah as seniors, Arkansas was strong across the board. Majal finished her career with 131 rounds over her years and played in the postseason four times. Ayora will leave Fayetteville with 102 rounds played and a 75th-place finish.

Kendall Todd had the eighth best finish at the championship in school history, finishing with a four-over 292 in 19th place. It’s also the eighth time she finished in the top 20 of a tournament.

Regan Zibilski made her NCAA Championship debut for the Hogs, as well, to round out the team.

The event marked the 12th time Arkansas had made the championships.

Hogs women’s golf wins NCAA Regional, advances to Championships

Hello, Big(ger) Dance. Arkansas had a good time in Vegas.

The Arkansas women’s golf team liked what happened in Vegas.

It had nothing, of course, to do with gambling – the NCAA wouldn’t care for that – but the Razorbacks took the NCAA Regional in Sin City by four strokes, advancing to the NCAA Championships later this month.

Arkansas never trailed, even, in Vegas, ultimately beating second-place Purdue by four strokes. The Hogs’ best golfer was senior Kajal Mistry, who won the event with a 6-under, tyin with Zoe Campos from UCLA. Junior Kendall Todd and freshman Maria Jose Marin also finished in the top eight for the Razorbacks.

Mistry is the second Arkansas golfer to capture a Regional title. Maria Fassi did it in 2018 in Texas.

The victory marks the second time in history Arkansas has captured an NCAA Regional, last doing so in 2018. It’s also the 12th time Arkansas has advanced to the NCAA Championships overall.

Eight SEC schools made the 32-team Championships field. The tournament is scheduled for May 17-22 in California.

Eighth-ranked Hogs golf takes tournament in Oklahoma

The No. 8 Hogs won their third tournament of the year and now ready for the SEC Championships.

The eighth-ranked Arkansas women’s golf team kept chugging away over the weekend, picking up a third tournament win of the year in Oklahoma.

Razorbacks junior Kendall Todd led Arkansas to a 16-over 856 at The Bruzzy in Ardmore. The score was 10 strokes better than second-place Notre Dame and 17 better than third-place Notre Dame. Todd was excellent, shooting even-par 70s in the final two rounds after an opening round 71 to finish in a tie for second individually.

Kajal Mistry joined her in the top as she tied Oklahoma junior Reagan Chaney with 2-over par. Miriam Ayora’s 6-over and Reagan Zibilski’s 8-over also put them in the top 20 while not other school had more than players finish 10-over or better.

The event was the last one of the regular season for the Hogs, who are set to golf in the SEC Championships in Florida from April 12-16.
