The Red Wolves posted a 58-3 rout of FCS Grambling State last weekend in Jonesboro, and Ark State held Grambling to 50 rushing yards and 52 passing yards while running for 339 yards. Needless to say, the sledding will be much tougher this week.

The Buckeyes opened slowly against Notre Dame last weekend, and even trailed 10-7 at half. Ohio State was much better in the final 30 minutes, and the defense pitched a shutout in the 2nd half as the Buckeyes won 21-10 as the Under connected.

Ohio State 59, Arkansas State 10

Money line

There was no money line at the time of publishing, but it wouldn’t be worth pursuing anyway.

Against the spread

OHIO STATE -44.5 (-105) had a very slow start against Notre Dame as the offense was mostly held in check. The Buckeyes had a very ordinary 172 rushing yards and 223 passing yards. Arkansas State +44.5 (-115) will offer very little resistance in this 1st-ever meeting.

Look for QB C.J. Stroud, RB TreVeyon Henderson and the Ohio State offense to roll up some huge numbers closer to the 2021 campaign.

Over/Under

OVER 68.5 (-110) is worth playing lightly.

The Buckeyes should do most of the heavy lifting here, and Ohio State should flirt with a 60-burger at home against this Sun Belt foe. The concern is whether or not Ark State will be able to score. The Buckeyes allowed just 10 points, 76 rushing yards and 177 passing yards to a top-5 team last weekend, so the OSU defense appears to be more locked in than the 2021 version.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (5-1, 3-0 Sun Belt) travel to meet the Arkansas State Red Wolves (1-5, 0-2) Thursday at Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro, Ark. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Louisiana vs. Arkansas State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

The Ragin’ Cajuns roughed up visiting Appalachian State 41-13 in a Tuesday game Oct. 12 as 4-point underdogs. The defense, which came up big again, is allowing just 17.8 points per game (PPG) during its five-game win streak.

Arkansas State hasn’t struggled like this in years. The Red Wolves tumbled to 4-7 in last season’s strange COVID-19 season. They had qualified for nine consecutive bowls prior to that.

Money line

Louisiana (-750) will cost you seven and a half times your potential return. That’s just too much risk for too little of reward, especially backing a road team.

AVOID and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

LOUISIANA -18.5 (-105) is a strong play, even on the road. Arkansas State can hold its own on offense, as it’s good for 30.0 PPG, including a tremendous pass attack which picks up 356.7 passing yards per game.

However, Ark State’s defense is atrocious, ranking at or near the bottom of the FBS. The D is 130th out of 130 teams in total yards allowed (584.0) and points allowed (46.7) per game, while ranking 129th in passing yards allowed (315.7) and rushing yards allowed (268.3) per game.

Look for the Ragin’ Cajuns to rage up and down the field.

Over/Under

OVER 70.5 (-108) is quite a high total, but Arkansas State is terrible on the defensive side of the ball. I expect Louisiana to go high 40’s, perhaps even into the 50’s. Arkansas State can move the ball, but it will be put to the test against a strong and improving Louisiana defense.

Coastal Carolina, ranked No. 15 in the USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, is led by Sophomore QB Grayson McCall who is 48th in the nation in passing yards. The Chanticleers have overpowered opponents as they’ve scored 49 or more points in four of their five games.

That will haunt the Arkansas State defensive coordinator David Duggan as the Red Wolves have given up more than 41 points in four straight games. Arkansas State was able to go toe-to-toe with Memphis in the second week of the season as QBs James Blackman and Layne Hatcher both threw for over 275 yards, and they’ll need that level of production again as the Wolves enter as heavy home underdogs.

Money line

PASS on the money line.

While Coastal Carolina is the strong favorite, putting more than 10 times your money on the line for one unit of return is never worth it. Tossing the money line in a parlay isn’t an awful idea, just to boost the odds a tad bit, but it’s still not recommended.

Against the spread

BET on COASTAL CAROLINA -19.5 (-110) as a great value. Coastal has been hot lately and will be looking to continue its bid as a top non-Power 5 side.

Coastal beat LA-Monroe by 53 and UMass by 50 in its last two games. While the two sides don’t have any common opponents, Arkansas State is coming off a 26-point loss to GA Southern.

The Chanticleers have taken over games defensively lately as they’ve allowed just 9 total points in the last two weeks, and I expect a blowout victory for the road side.

Coastal has won four of its five games this season by 20 or more points, and Arkansas State will not be one of its top opponents. The Chanticleers’ balanced attack should prove too overpowering for a flimsy Wolves’ side.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 72.5 (-105) as the better value.

It’s a tough total as both teams have high-octane offenses, but Coastal has been locking opponents up. It’s yet to allow a team over 25 points and has held three of its five opponents to under 15.

While Arkansas State has scored 30 or more in four games, against Washington – the best opponents it’s faced – the Wolves put up just 3. Taking on a team looking for dominating victories, this has the feel of a Coastal blowout.

If that’s the case, expect another strong defensive showing. Coastal will get on the board often, but the total should still go Under if their defense can hold up, which it’s proven it can do.
