Twitter: Louisville fans salty, think Musselman should leave Arkansas to coach Cards

Louisville fans think Eric Musselman would leave Arkansas to coach the Cardinals.

Eric Musselman isn’t going anywhere.

Sorry, Louisville fans.

The Cardinals’ faithful were out in full force during the second half and after No. 9 Arkansas’ 80-54 win over Louisville in the quarterfinals of the Maui Invitational on Monday. They want Musselman to head to Bluegrass State.

It isn’t happening.

Not with the roster and prestige Musselman has created in Fayetteville. A team with 11 new players annhilated Louisville (0-4) in every which way in the opening round in Hawaii.

And apparently some Louisville fans think the school should cut bait with first-year coach Kenny Payne in the offseason and make a full-fledged play for Arkansas’ fourth-year head man.

Repeat: It isn’t happening.

But that didn’t stop some of them from proclaiming their desire to see it happen, anyway.

Dream away, Cardinals fans. Dream away.

Beyond the Box: Arkansas vs Louisville – Anthony Black steals the show in dunkfest

Arkansas turned a five point lead to 25 in just 10 minutes against Louisville on Monday.

Anthony Black’s scoring won’t be the main plus he brings to the Arkansas basketball team in 2022-23.

But on Monday against Louisville, in the quarterfinals of the Maui Invitational, Black didn’t just stuff the box score, he dominated it, and in points, too.

Black scored a career-high 26 points on 9 of 11 shooting while adding six assists in the Razorbacks’ 80-54 win. The Hogs advanced to play No. 10 Creighton on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Louisville trailed by just five points with 14:26 left before Arkansas went on a 24-4 run. At one point during the streak, the Razorbacks had scored on dunks on five straight possessions.

Let’s examine behind the basic statistics, though, to see just how Arkansas dominated what was, for a good 25 minutes, a close game.

Anthony Black goes wild as Arkansas beats Louisville in Maui Invitational

No. 9 Arkansas handled Louisville in the quarterfinals of the Maui Invitational on Monday.

Freshman guard Anthony Black scored a career-high 26 points and added six to help No. 9 Arkansas get past Louisville in the quarterfinals of the Maui Invitational on Monday, 80-54.

The Razorbacks will play No. 10 Creighton at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday. Creighton beat Texas Tech in the opening game of the tournament Monday, 76-65.

Black, a 6-foot-7 point guard, had set the career high by halftime with 12 points. In the fourth game of his college career, he shot 9 of 11 from the floor. He had just 18 field-goal attempts in the previous three games.

Ricky Council, a transfer from Wichita State, joined Black in double figures scoring with 15. Makhel Mitchell added another 12 points off the bench.

Arkansas coach Eric Musselman limited his bench against Louisville. Trevon Brazile, who hadn’t played in fewer than 29 minutes this season, played just 15 against the Cardinals. Arkansas had a total of 25 bench points, 12 of which came from Mitchell.

Arkansas led the game from the opening tip. The closest Louisville, which is 0-4 on the season, came in the second half was five with just over 14 minutes left. Arkansas then went on a 24-4 run and led by 23 points at the final media timeout.

Arkansas basketball vs Louisville: How to watch, stream, listen

Arkansas is set to tip off from the Maui Invitational on Monday afternoon against Louisville.

Sitting a dandy 3-0 to start the year, the Arkansas basketball team has met all lofty expectations hoist upon them so far in 2022-23.

Their week in Hawaii, however, will be the real test.

Arkansas opens its Maui Invitational on Monday afternoon against a team in the exact opposite boat. Louisville is 0-3 with its fans proclaiming the Kenny Payne era a disaster. Payne is in his first year as a head coach anywhere after serving as an assistant at Kentucky for 11 years and in the NBA for another three.

Eric Musselman had a similar path before beginning at Nevada then jumping to Arkansas. He warned the assembled media after the Hogs’ win over South Dakota State on Wednesday that Louisville’s record wasn’t indicative of how good a team the Cardinals are.

All three Louisville losses have come by one point. They’ve fallen to Bellarmine, Wright State and Appalachian State.

Arkansas, at No. 9 in the country, probably doesn’t want to drop its first game in Hawaii, especially to a team 0-3.

One of them has to lose, though. And here’s how to watch it.
