Diamond Hogs sweep Louisiana Tech for eighth straight win

Arkansas’ bats are alive and kicking. Pitching is coming around, too.

Jared Wegner had just one base hit against Louisiana Tech on Monday. The Bulldogs weren’t going to let Arkansas’ best hitter beat them.

Instead, everyone else on the Diamond Hogs roster did.

Wegner hit a three-run home run in his only true at-bat while walking five times in Arkansa’s 15-6 stomping of the Bulldogs on Sunday from Baum-Walker Stadium. The win provided the Razorbacks with a series sweep and their eighth straight win ahead of a two-game set with UNLV starting Tuesday. SEC play begins after that.

Tech actually jumped out early, 3-0, on Arkansas starter Hunter Hollan. Only one of the runs given up was earned, however, and Hollan settled in. He ultimately struck out seven while giving up just two hits and no walks. His three hit batters and one wild pitch were his biggest damage.

Meanwhile, Wegner and Co. had no trouble. The Diamond Hogs had 11 hits and walked 12 times and every Razorbacks starter scored at least one run. Peyton Stovall joined Wegner for the team lead with three RBI, but he collected all of his despite an 0-for-4 day.

Arkansas will host the Runnin’ Rebels for a two-game set this week and then begin SEC play on the weekend at home against Auburn.

Arkansas baseball vs Louisiana Tech: How to watch, stream, listen to Game 3

Arkansas is looking for its eighth straight win Sunday at 1 p.m.

Will McEntire’s complete-game Saturday ensured the Arkansas baseball team earned a series win over Louisiana Tech.

Sunday, the No. 8 Diamond Hogs will go for a sweep.

Arkansas and Louisiana Tech are set for a first pitch at 1 p.m. from Baum-Walker Stadium. The Razorbacks are seeking an eighth straight win.

McEntire allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out six in his nine innings Saturday. It was his best start of the season as McEntire lowered his season earned-run average 3.48.

Jace Bohrofen, Kendall Diggs and Peyton Holt all hit solo home runs as Arkansas scattered their six runs over five different innings in the 6-1 win.

After Sunday, Arkansas has just one final nonconference series before SEC play starts. The Diamond Hogs will host UNLV for a two-game set Tuesday and Wednesday.

Diamond Hogs strike early, hold off Louisiana Tech in series opener

Arkansas hit a pair of two-run homers in the second inning to put Louisiana Tech in a hole from which the Bulldogs would not recover.

Arkansas’ final weekend warm-up ahead of SEC play is off to a good start.

The eighth-ranked Diamond Hogs dispatched Louisiana Tech on Friday night, 7-4, to start the teams’ three-game set from Baum-Walker Stadium.

Hagen Smith, Arkansas’ ace, worked five innings, giving up just two runs while striking out seven. His offense staked him early to allow for some wiggle-room.

Jace Bohrofen and Parker Rowland each hit two-run home runs in Arkansas’ four-run second inning. Brady Slavens scored on a fielder’s choice in the third to build Arkansas’ early lead to 5-0.

The Bulldogs tagged Smith for two runs on four hits in the fifth and Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn went to his bullpen to start the sixth. Cody Adcock allowed another run in that frame, but Arkansas tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth via a Kendall Diggs sacrifice fly.

Bohrofen, Diggs and Tavian Josenberger each had two base hits for Arkansas, while Peyton Stovall drove in the team’s other run outside of the homers and Diggs’ two.

The teams are back at it Saturday for a 2 p.m. matinee.
