Arkansas basketball narrowly escapes Lipscomb, 69-66

Simmons Bank Arena brought a capacity crowd and the Razorbacks almost sent the fans home unhappy but survived a pesky Lipscomb squad.

The lights wouldn’t come on to start the game, and then the lights almost went out on Arkansas’ NCAA Tournament resume on Saturday night at Simmons Bank Arena.

Before a sold-out crowd of 16,361 in North Little Rock, the Razorbacks managed to eke out a 3-point victory over the Church of Christ school from Nashville, Tenn.

Arkansas (7-4) actually led by 20 with 10:53 to go in the game before the Bisons went on a 21-2 run that cut the lead to 63-62 and had multiple looks at the basket to take the lead and had a 3-pointer rim out at the end that would’ve forced overtime.

Tramon Mark led the Arkansas scoring effort with 17 points off the bench, while Makhi Mitchell and Jalen Graham both joined him in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Lipscomb (7-6) was without two of its best players coming into the game but trailed by only eight at halftime.

Arkansas will be in action against on Thursday night at Bud Walton Arena, with Abilene Christian coming to town. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.

Arkansas vs. Lipscomb: How to watch, listen, key players, metrics and more

Arkansas basketball takes on Lipscomb in North Little Rock later this evening. Here’s how to watch, stream the game, key players and more.

After a week off to rest and regroup following their loss to No. 19 Oklahoma last Saturday, [autotag]Arkansas basketball[/autotag] heads to North Little Rock’s Simmons Bank Arena to face off against Lipscomb.

The annual trip to central Arkansas hasn’t always been kind to [autotag]Eric Musselman[/autotag]’s squad, but a sold-out crowd is expected to be on hand for Saturday evening’s contest. Also, for the first time since 2014, the annual North Little Rock game is going to be streamed live for fans to watch. Previously, Simmons Bank Arena didn’t have the technological capability to do so.

Another interesting wrinkle added to this matchup is that the Hogs will have a fresh face suiting up for the first time this season. [autotag]Keyon Menifield Jr.[/autotag], a 6-1, 150-pound guard who transferred from Washington earlier in the year, was granted a waiver for immediate eligibility for the rest of this season on Friday afternoon. That means he’ll be available to make his Arkansas debut against Lipscomb on Saturday.

It’s a significant development for the Razorbacks, who are in need of some consistency from the point guard position. We’ll see if Menifield being added to the fold is the change that this team needs.

Here’s how you can catch all of Saturday’s action, key players to watch and much more.

Reminder: No TV for Hogs baseball in North Little Rock on Tuesday

Radio only. You remember radio right, Arkansas fans? It’s that thing in your car, you use it to stream music from your phone.

Remember when Arkansas fans used to fight online seemingly non-stop about whether games should be played in the greater Little Rock area?

Razorbacks fans from central Arkansas don’t seem to get as up in arms as they used to. Kudos to Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek for quietly getting away from making the trip down Interstate 49 and across I-40. His predecessor always seemed to be at the forefront of the fight.

But that’s football. In baseball and basketball, the Razorbacks still play one game per season just north of the state capital. No one seems to complain much about these games from either part of the Natural State. Attendance is usually good.

It’s embarrassing, though, that in this day and age of everything-is-streaming that those games aren’t on any form of video feed available to consumers. Meaning, no TV. No streaming.

Yurachek detailed the reasons why in December. Long story short, equipment isn’t available there and it’s not time-efficient nor cost-effective to haul the ones in Fayetteville over.

That means Tuesday’s game against Lipscomb can only be heard on the radio, where the mellow voice of Phil Elson will carry you through just fine.

Radio. You know, it’s in your car (and literally nowhere else in your world). It has the knobs. No. Not that one. That controls the temperature. The other one.

Anyway, that’s the reason the game is against Lipscomb. Here’s how to catch it.
