Why Arkansas can be the team to knock Alabama from the College Football Playoff

An Arkansas win would hurt Alabama’s national title hopes and revive the Razorbacks’.

Alabama hasn’t lost to Arkansas.

Yet.

The Crimson Tide, the nation’s No. 2 team, is favored on Saturday at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium against the Razorbacks, ranked 20th. But the fact that one particular Sports Illustrated writer is writing the Crimson Tide out of the College Football Playoff means he’s projected Alabama to lose. It could be Saturday.

SI’s Richard Johnson projects Georgia, Ohio State, Southern California and Oklahoma State to play in the College Football Playoff.

Could Arkansas be the team that helps make Johnson’s projection come true? It’s possible.

The Razorbacks are, without question, the best team Alabama will have played to this point of the season. A fair-to-middling Texas team pushed the Crimson Tide back in Week 2. Arkansas is better than the Longhorns and a win would re-kindle a spark that was tempered for Razorbacks country after last week’s loss to Texas A&M.

Kickoff from Fayetteville is at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
