Cardinals bench Josh Dobbs one day after naming him starter vs. Browns

The Browns will not see Josh Dobbs after all.

Just one day after stating Josh Dobbs would start against his former team as the Arizona Cardinals travel to take on the Cleveland Browns, the 1-7 team has made a move. 3While the hope of Kyler Murray is not completely dead for the Cardinals, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that it will be rookie Clayton Tune who will get that start “barring a significant change of plans.”

The Browns head home after a 1-1 stint on the road, most recently off of a loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Cleveland has uncertainty at the quarterback position themselves as head coach Kevin Stefanski has not committed to PJ Walker this week after three rough outings. This means either Deshaun Watson will be healthy enough to play, or they may turn back to fifth round rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Either way, Sunday’s matchup in Cleveland has the potential for some ugly quarterback play.

Cardinals announce Kyler Murray won’t return vs. Browns; Joshua Dobbs will start

The Browns will face their former backup quarterback next week

Coming off of a brutal loss against the Seattle Seahawks, the Cleveland Browns will face another NFC West opponent next week. As the Arizona Cardinals travel to Northeast Ohio, the Browns will take on a familiar face as Joshua Dobbs will start this game. While Kyler Murray has returned to practice, it does not appear they are eager to rush him back on the field as head coach Johnathan Gannon has announced he will not make his return against the Browns.

This means the past backup quarterback in Cleveland will more than likely face the current backup in Cleveland. This takes a bit of assuming on my part to think the Browns will likely sit starting quarterback Deshaun Watson until they take on the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers in back-to-back weeks after the Cardinals game.

We are set for either a ton of fun between Dobbs and Walker, but more realistically some pretty ugly football next week at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Report: Cardinals QB Kyler Murray likely to make his season debut vs. Browns

Kyler Murray is expected to make his season debut against the Cleveland Browns in week 9.

Quarterback Kyler Murray is highly probable to return to the NFL when the Arizona Cardinals take on the Cleveland Browns next Sunday according to Dianna Russini. The quarterback suffered an ACL tear last season that has kept him sidelined all year. Earlier this week, Murray began practicing with the Cardinals for the first time this season.

While the quarterback reportedly felt very good, the Cardinals decided to hold him out of the Ravens’ game. There was talk during the offseason of letting Murray sit the entire season as the Cardinals would assess the organization during the season. The Cardinals have two more weeks to activate Kyler Murray from the Injured Reserved list.

If Murray plays against the Browns, it would end an offensive reunion as former Browns backup quarterback, Josh Dobbs was named the starter after being acquired in late August. Dobbs has been a good leader for the Cardinals’ offense, as his familiarity with Drew Petzing, the Cardinals’ offensive coordinator, and former Browns’ quarterback coach has helped the Cardinals transition from a spread offense into an under-center wide zone offense.

It will be interesting to see how Murray and the offense adapt to each other. Murray has spent his entire career in an air raid offense where he has had a lot of success. It sounds like Murray will make his debut with the new offense against a historically good Browns defense.
