- App State lost QB Zac Thomas in the fourth quarter of last week’s game after a hit out of bounds by a Georgia State defender. Thomas was hospitalized as a precaution, but there is a chance he plays Saturday. If Thomas cannot go, Jacob Huesman would take the reins of the offense. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, the same isn’t true for leading rusher RB Daetrich Harrington, who is out for the season due to a foot injury.
- App State is 5-0 straight up but just 1-4 ATS since its lone setback at Marshall on Sept. 19. Overall, the Mountaineers are just 1-6 ATS, while Coastal Carolina has posted an impressive 5-1-1 ATS record this season, including 2-0-1 ATS in three home games against FBS opponents.
- CCU has been balanced on both sides of the line. The Chanticleers are 26th in points scored per game (37.9), while racking up 203.3 rushing yards per contest to rank 34th in the country. They are 14th in total yards allowed (309.6), 10th in passing yards allowed (174.3) and 11th in points allowed (16.3) per game.

Coastal Carolina 24, Appalachian State 17
Money line (ML)
Coastal Carolina (-223) was picked to finish last in the East Division in preseason polls. Now, it has a chance to seize the East with a win, and Appalachian State (+180) enters with some nicks and bruises. Still, risking more than two times your potential return in a game which can go either way is foolhardy. AVOID.
Against the spread (ATS)
COASTAL CAROLINA -5.5 (-110) is the play here, mainly because of health. Head coach Jamey Chadwell’s team is in much better shape, as the loss of Harrington will really hurt Appalachian State. If Thomas doesn’t play, that’s even worse.
Over/Under (O/U)
UNDER 48.5 (-115) is always a risky play, as college games are generally high-scoring affairs in this day and age, but CCU has a lockdown defense, and App State will be without its leading rusher, and perhaps its starting signal-caller.
The Mountaineers struggled in a 17-13 win over Georgia State in which the Under hit easily when injuries struck. Look for a defensive slog in this Sun Belt (Fun Belt!) showdown.
