Saquon Barkley’s NFL MVP odds jump following Eagles 37-20 win over Rams in Week 12

Saquon Barkley now has the third best odds to win the AP NFL MVP Award following Eagles 37-20 win over Rams in Week 12

The Eagles fans took over SoFi Stadium, and Saquon Barkley ran into the thick of the NFL MVP race with an electric 255-yard rushing performance in Philadelphia’s 37-20 win over the Rams on Sunday night.

Barkley’s explosion included touchdown runs of 70 and 72 yards, and his 255 yards are the ninth-most in an NFL game in league history. Barkley shattered LeSean McCoy’s record of 217 yards in a game (2013 Snow Bowl vs. Lions) with his 72-yard run that acted as a knockout punch.

“He’s the best in the league. He’s the best at what he does,” Quarterback Jalen Hurts said in his postgame interview with Barkley standing across from him. “He’s a bad man.”

In the latest BETMGM odds, Barkley has the third-best odds behind Josh Allen (+150) and Lamar Jackson (+220).

Barkley’s 1,392 yards now lead the NFL, with Derrick Henry still to play Monday night against the Chargers, sitting at 1,185. Barkley has five games with 140+ rush yards and 1+ rush touchdown in 2024, which is the most in the NFL.

Even more important, Barkley is on pace to shatter LeSean McCoy’s Eagles’ all-time single-season rushing record (1,607 in 2013).

Justin Jefferson finished fifth in AP Most Valuable Player voting

A fifth place finish in the MVP voting caps off a phenomenal season for Jefferson

The Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver had a tremendous night at the NFL Honors ceremony. He won the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year award and also took home Moment of the Year for his insane catch on 4th and 18 against the Buffalo Bills in week 10.

The only award left for Jefferson to potentially win was the AP Most Valuable Player award where he was one of five finalists. The award ended up going to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The voting wasn’t even close, as Mahomes got 48 of the 50 first-place votes with Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts receiving the other two.

The voting broke down in pretty simple terms for Jefferson. He was on 34 of the 50 ballots sent out with one second-place vote, one third-place vote, 15 fourth-place votes and 17 fifth-place votes.

Not bad for a wide receiver who was thought to be a slot-only player coming out of LSU.

Justin Jefferson named finalist for AP Most Valuable Player

Jefferson is the only non-quarterback nominated for Most Valuable Player

The National Football League Most Valuable Player usually goes to the league’s best quarterback but every so often, a non-quarterback gets nominated. After being nominated for the AP Offensive Player of the Year award, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was named a finalist for the AP Most Valuable Player award.

The Vikings receiver is the only non-quarterback nominated for the award this year, as he joins Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen and Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow.

The likelihood of Jefferson winning the award is slim due to two factors: he isn’t a quarterback and the AP changed their voting practices. Instead of having their 50 voters vote for just their top option, they vote for first, second and third place.

The AP MVP award will be given during NFL honors on Thursday, February 9th.
