Antonio Gates’ former teammate was the one who surprised him with the big news.

Antonio Gates was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Thursday.

Before it was officially announced to the public, Gates’ former teammate and Chargers great LaDainian Tomlinson surprised him with the big news.

“It’s my honor to welcome you into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025,” Tomlinson said.

In the video, Gates revealed that his father passed away recently and his funeral was a week before.

“He would always talk about being a competitor, being tough,” Gates said about his dad.

Former Chargers TE Antonio Gates set to be inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame

After missing the cut last year, Antonio Gates will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Antonio Gates is finally in.

After missing the cut last year, Gates will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH.

The other members of the Class of 2025 are Eric Allen, Jared Allen and Sterling Sharpe (senior).

Gates never played college football despite initially enrolling at Michigan State with the hopes of playing basketball and football. He transferred to two schools before ending up at Kent State.

This is where he helped the Golden Flashes reach the Elite Eight of the 2002 NCAA tournament. He switched to football after graduation, signing with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2003.

Little did we know when Gates entered the league that he would go on to be one of the best to play the sport and revolutionize the tight end position.

Gates finished his 16-year career, all with the Bolts, with 955 receptions for 11,841 yards and 116 touchdowns. His 116 touchdown receptions are the most by a tight end in NFL history.

Gates was a five-time All-Pro selection and made eight Pro Bowl teams.

What four players comprise the 2025 Pro Football HOF class?

The 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will have four players. One won’t be New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

Jared Allen, Sterling Sharpe — finally! — Eric Allen and Antonio Gates make up the quartet who will be inducted in Canton, OH, later this year.

Sharpe was the lone finalist from the Seniors, Coach and Contributor categories to make the Hall in 2025

Manning was in his first year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame. He led the Giants to two Super Bowl titles, which normally would be enough on a resume to get someone enshdrined.

However, there must have been voters who held his 117-117 record as a starter against him. He threw for 57,023 yards with 366 touchdowns against 244 interceptions.

Raiders great CB Eric Allen makes Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2025

Eric Allen has finally broken through and has been named to the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2025.

After several years of near misses, Eric Allen has finally broken through. The six-time Pro Bowl cornerback has been named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2025.

Allen played the final four years of his 14-year career with the Raiders. He revived his career in those years, collecting 16 interceptions and 46 pass breakups including four playoff games.

Allen made six Pro Bowls over his career, including one All Pro. All happened while with the Eagles and Saints.

The full class is as follows:

DE Jared Allen
WR Sterling Sharpe
CB Eric Allen
TE Antonio Gates

Allen had already established himself as one of the best in league history before he joined the Raiders. But he didn’t just hang around in his four season in Oakland. He added 15 more interceptions in his mid-thirties with the Raiders, including returning three for touchdowns in 2000 at the age of 35.

He was a key part of the Raiders during their last glory years of the late 90s and early 2000s. His success in Silver & Black cemented his legacy and ultimately pushed him to immortal status in Canton.

Michigan State football WR transfer moving to the FCS

MSU wide receiver transfer is heading to the FCS

Michigan State football lost wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr. to the transfer portal, when the former four star recruit decided to leave East Lansing after two years with the program.

In his two years in East Lansing, Gates played in 14 games, catching 9 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. He will now be a part of a team coached by former NFL star wide receiver Desean Jackson.

The latest finalists to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will include two former Kansas City Chiefs defensive standouts. Jared Allen and Terrell Suggs are among the 15 finalists announced for next year’s class on Saturday.

Allen was drafted in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft and spent the first four years of his career in Kansas City. In his final year with the Chiefs, he made the Pro Bowl and became a first-team All-Pro with 15.5 sacks. He would later succeed with the Minnesota Vikings, becoming a three-time first-team All-Pro and a four-time Pro Bowler over the next five seasons.

Suggs was acquired by the Chiefs toward the end of the 2019 season, serving as an additional piece on the journey to Super Bowl LIV. The 37-year-old played a significant role in the postseason, playing in most of the snaps and winning his second title after successful All-Pro seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.

Travis Kelce passes NFL legend on all-time TE receiving yards leaderboard

Travis Kelce moved past a legend on the NFL’s tight end receiving yards leaderboard during the #Chiefs’ Week 12 matchup against the #Panthers.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has broken many records during his time in the NFL, and after a 19-yard catch against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, he inched closer to setting another high-water mark among players at his position.

Kelce went into Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers fourth on the all-time list of receiving yards for a tight end, needing just six yards to pass the great Antonio Gates.

After early scores by both teams in the first quarter, quarterback Patrick Mahomes continued to air out the ball, and found Kelce on a short screen where he was able to pick up 19 yards after the catch.

This catch put the former Cincinnati Bearcat at third on the all-time list of receiving yards by a tight end, passing Gates:

As Kelce continues his reign of dominance, he is well on his way to earning a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio upon his retirement.

Stay tuned to see if the All-Pro tight end can rack up even more yards as Kansas City looks to get back into the win column against the Panthers.

Michigan State football loses WR to the transfer portal

Michigan State loses WR to the transfer portal

Michigan State wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr. has made the decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal, leaving the program.

This decision comes on the heels of the emergence of several different wide receivers within the program, including Nick Marsh, Aziah Johnson and Jaron Glover.

Gates had 5 receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown in his MSU career.

Michigan State is already in the mix for a handful of WRs in the transfer portal and will surely make a move in that department.
