Anthony Munoz stresses the most important thing a team can give a rookie QB

Bengals legend Anthony Munoz has some sage advice for teams thinking about drafting quarterbacks.

With the Cincinnati Bengals looking like a team ready to make Joe Burrow its next franchise quarterback via the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL draft, now would be a good time to check in with a team legend like Anthony Munoz.

Munoz, after all, knows a thing or two about what makes quarterbacks successful at the next level. And he’s more qualified than most when he says it’s all about the blindside protection, per Andy Kent of the Palm Beach Post:

“To me, it is about blindside and non-blindside, but it’s also about the strong and the weak side. You see even though we had a left-handed quarterback, we ran right-handed formations predominantly, meaning the tight end was on the right side.”

That means a lot coming from one of the best to ever do it who played with the likes of Ken Anderson and Boomer Esiason.

And from a Bengals perspective, the front office hopes it has this sort of solid presence with Jonah Williams. The top-flight prospect missed his rookie year but is on schedule to be back fine this summer and into training camp.

While it is unfortunate how things played out on that front, it is sort of like the Bengals are getting two first-round picks this year. And one of those figures to be the critical element Munoz stresses, right alongside his potential franchise quarterback.
