The Fighting Irish, who took a 1-0 lead in the series, improved to 18-5 overall and 6-4 in the ACC. The Tigers fell to 19-10 overall and 2-7 in ACC play.

Bertrand (5-0) earned the win by allowing just four hits, one unearned run and three walks with eight strikeouts. Bertrand, who threw 130 pitches, did not allow a leadoff batter to reach base. Clemson, S.C. — The Tigers scored early and often as they defeated N.C. State 14-3 Friday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Clemson started out strong on both sides of the ball as Mack Anglin set the tone of the game giving up just three hits in five innings with eight strikeouts by the end of the game. Despite runners on second and third in the first inning, Anglin defended home plate with consecutive strikeouts giving his team momentum to go up at bat securing an early lead with 3 runs by Benjamin Blackwell, Cooper Ingle, and Max Wagner.
“He was executing his fast ball at the bottom of the strike zone. The biggest difference today was the command of the fast ball,” Coach Lee said of Anglin.
Anglin continued to get the job done in the third, again with consecutive strikeouts with two runners on base. Sloppy fielding by NC State allowed Clemson to stretch their lead picking up 7 runs in the fourth inning alone tallying 13 RBI’s and 16 hits by the end of the game.
Casey Tallent took over for Anglin in the sixth followed by Jackson Lindley for an additional inning. Rickey Williams and Austin Gordon were also briefly part of the rotation on the mound. Cooper Ingle contributed on defense with 13 putouts and two runs. Chad Fairey and Blake Wright also each had 2 runs and combined for three RBI’s.
The Tigers didn’t allow a run until the seventh inning with a home run from NC State’s Noah Soles, and the Wolfpack tacked on two more early in the ninth.
The series will resume tomorrow at 6 pm.
