Angels at Mariners: Projected starting pitchers
RHP Julio Teheran vs. LHP Marco Gonzales
Teheran opened the season on the IL after receiving a positive COVID-19 test prior to Summer Camp. The 29-year-old right-hander clocked a 3.81 ERA in 33 starts for the Braves a year ago. He owns a career ERA of 3.67.
- Advanced metrics indicate Teheran’s surface numbers out-kicking the coverage of his skills for four straight years now. BABIP (batting average on balls in play) is a big key in that disparity, but so are Statcast numbers which indicate the righty has survived harder contact without expected damage.
Gonzales is making start No. 3 on the season. The Mariner port-sider has had one shaky start and one good one. The good start came against these same Angels on July 30 (his last start). Gonzales has a season ERA of 2.53; in 457 2/3 career IP, he has posted a 4.21 ERA.
- Current LA bats own a respectable .805 OPS against Gonzales. OF Mike Trout leads the Angel hit parade in that department — Trout has slashed his way to a .429/.515/.750 line against the Mariner hurler.
- A year ago Gonzales scuffled when seeing an opponent in the back half of two straight starts. He made three such starts, logging an ERA of 7.13.

Moneyline (ML)
The analysis here has some lay-off-first-start tilt to it. But ANGELS (-129) is an okay play (with a lot of morning backing on that side by the way). But better value can be found below.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)
TAKE THE ANGELS -1.5 (+120) in a game where the Over has some value and Los Angeles has some value.
Over/Under (O/U)
Both bullpens have struggled early, and the Angels and Mariners have combined Overs of 14-8-1. The figure here appears to be off as does the price. TAKE THE OVER 8.5 (-110).
