Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci prediction, pick, start time, odds for UFC on ESPN 62

Will Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci have the judges split in the UFC on ESPN 62 co-main event?

[autotag]Angela Hill[/autotag] and [autotag]Tabatha Ricci[/autotag] meet Saturday in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 62 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 1-4
UFC main cards, 2024: 70-61-3

Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci UFC on ESPN 62 preview

Hill (17-13 MMA, 10-7 UFC) is one win away from matching her best streak since 2020 when she won three straight. Over the years, “Overkill” has struggled to maintain momentum with mixed results, but enters this contest as a winner of back-to-back fights. In November, she won a unanimous decision over Denise Gomes. In May, Hill picked up her first career submission against Luana Pinheiro. … Ricci (10-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) enters on a win, albeit a controversial split decision against Tecia Pennington in May. The fight prior was also a split decision, but two judges sided with Lupita Godinez, snapping a four-fight winning streak.

Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci UFC on ESPN 62 expert pick, prediction

The co-main event in Las Vegas features a top 15 attraction at women’s strawweight between Hill and Ricci.

Although this appears to be a potential crossroads fight at first glance, Hill – despite being nearly 40 – is arguably fighting at her career best right now.

Whereas Ricci, who received an absolute gift from the judges in her last outing opposite Tecia Pennington, could quietly be going through some stylistic growing pains as a fighter who has been altering her style on the feet for her past few fights.

However, in Ricci’s defense, she did show some improvements and the ability to have a strong final frame (something that will likely come in handy against Hill).

I believe that Hill should still be the superior striker and possesses solid enough grappling defense and scrambling to avoid being finished or controlled for prolonged periods. That said, I don’t trust the judges (who have notoriously given “Overkill” the short end of the stick) to reward the cleaner striker over the more eye-catching one.

So, even though I’m anointing Hill as the more effective fighter on paper, I’m basically fading logic and my understanding of the scoring criteria due to my history of being on the wrong end of fights that scream close decision.

The official pick is for Ricci to pick up another controversial split-decision win.

Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci UFC on ESPN 62 odds

Despite the oddsmakers opening the Brazilian as the favorite, public money has pushed this contest to practically pick’em odds, listing Ricci -114 and Hill -106 via FanDuel.

Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci UFC on ESPN 62 start time, how to watch

UFC on ESPN 62: Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 62 odds between Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci, with MMA picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

In a 3-round women’s strawweight bout on the main card, Angela Hill and Tabatha Ricci meet Saturday at UFC on ESPN 62 — also known as UFC Vegas 96 — at the UFC APEX. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the UFC on ESPN 62: Hill vs. Ricci odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The prelims begin 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+, while the main card starts at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+.

Records: Hill (17-13-0) | Ricci (10-2-0)

The 39-year-old Hill, a.k.a. “Overkill”, heads into this fight looking for a 3rd consecutive victory. The Alliance MMA fighter has really pieced things together since a 3-bout skid from Aug. 7, 2021, to May 14, 2022. She has won 4 of the past 5 bouts, with all but one of those fights going the distance. Hill picked up a 2nd-round submission win against Luana Pinheiro in mid-May.

Ricci picked up a split-decision win against Tecia Pennington last time out, bouncing back from a split-decision disappointment against Loopy Godinez in the previous fight at UFC 295. She has won 5 of her past 6 fights since dropping her company debut against Manon Fiorot June 5, 2021.

Hill is 10 years older than Ricci, and she holds a 3.5-inch reach advantage. In addition, Hill has a 5.38-to-4.28 significant strikes landed per minute advantage, too. The veteran is more accurate on those strikes at 52.26%, too, while Ricci is much better in the ground-and-pound.

  • Over/Under: 2.5 rounds (Over -600 | Under +370)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -460 | No +320)

UFC on ESPN 62: Hill vs. Ricci picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

The veteran HILL (+110) still has some tricks up her sleeve, and she is the play at plus-money.

She’ll use her tremendous reach advantage to draw Ricci (-130) in and out at her choice while trying to keep this fight a toe-to-toe brawl. Hill cannot afford to lose her footing and get sucked into a wrestling match, or things will go much different.

Hill is a brawler, and she has a ton of punching power, but her ground game isn’t close to Ricci. As long as she can stay upright, Hill is in good shape.

Over/Under (O/U)

Yes (-460): Will the fight go the distance? will set you back more than 4½ times, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward.

Going with Over 2.5 Rounds (-600) is even more costly, and it makes less sense.

Instead, take HILL BY POINTS (+145) for the method of victory for a much better payout.

UFC on ESPN 62’s Angela Hill aims to break record for most female fights in company history

Angela Hill is edging closer to Jessica Andrade’s record for most female fights in UFC history.

[autotag]Angela Hill[/autotag] is edging closer to [autotag]Jessica Andrade[/autotag]’s record for most female fights in UFC history.

Hill (17-13 MMA, 12-13 UFC) enters her 26th octagon bout when she meets Tabatha Ricci (10-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 62 (ESPN/ESPN+) co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

When Hill makes the walk against Ricci, she will trail Andrade’s (26-12 MMA, 17-10 UFC) record by only one fight.

“Andrade is cheating,” Hill said, jokingly, in an interview with MMA Junkie. “She’s fighting in both weight classes. I’m like, ‘Yo, pick one so I could beat you when it comes to the most fights.’ I’m excited about trying to break that record. It’s one of those things where I don’t take a lot of damage when I fight. Just recently, I’ve started to actually take a tiny bit of damage, so I’ve been trying to work on my defense and make sure that I’m still getting in there and coming out healthy – with healthy brain, healthy body and everything.

“I feel like having more of an emphasis on grappling has prolonged my career. It’s definitely added some years to it. People can say, ‘Why is she still fighting?’ but I still feel young, I still feel fresh, I still do well against the girls that are coming in, and I feel like I have a wealth of knowledge that I can use to my advantage as well.”

Hill is coming off just her second UFC finish – a Performance of the Night submission of Luana Pinheiro in May. Having won four of her past five, Hill was hoping for a higher ranked opponent, but is happy to draw Ricci.

“This is a matchup that I liked,” Hill said. “I wanted someone higher, but unfortunately most of the people higher I already fought. It’s nice to get some fresh blood, some fresh meat. I feel really good. I feel really strong.

“I feel like I’m more dangerous. I feel like there’s a lot of tools that I can use against her. She’s a cool chick. I have no animosity toward her, either. I always feel like I fight better when I like the person I’m fighting, so I’m excited about it.”

Angela Hill working on putting together a strong case for UFC title shot: ‘That’s the main goal’

Nearing 40, Angela Hill is not giving up on the UFC strawweight title.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Angela Hill[/autotag] remains on the hunt for a UFC championship belt.

A decade into her professional MMA career and nearing 40, Hill (17-13 MMA, 12-13 UFC) has not given up and is still determined on fighting for the UFC strawweight belt before it’s all said and done. This involves putting together a strong resume, so she can be worthy of the opportunity, and she’ll get to do that on Saturday when she takes on Tabatha Ricci in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 62.

“It’s going to take a lot of convincing for people to really get behind the fact that I could potentially fight for the belt eventually, despite my age or any wins and losses I have in the UFC,” Hill said. “It’s all a matter of putting together a strong portfolio in the last couple of years, and I think I’ve been able to do that.

“I’m just focusing on the fight ahead of me and making sure that every time I’m out there I’m focusing on the present and in the moment, and not thinking too far ahead.”

Hill (17-13 MMA, 12-13 UFC) is on a two-fight winning streak and 4-1 in her past five outings. She believes a win over Ricci (10-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) will do a lot for her title campaign. Getting the belt is the main goal for Hill, but she’s also not going to let that spoil what she’s already achieved in MMA.

“I’m just hoping I eventually get that shot,” Hill said. “If I don’t I think I’ll be able to retire pretty happy with what I’ve accomplished, but that’s the main goal, work my way to the top and see what happens.”

Hill has been working on her mentality and being present in the cage. Through that, she’s become a better fighter, and that’s given her plenty of confidence at this late stage in her career.

“I feel like I can beat anyone, it’s just a matter of coming in with the right mindset, training hard, and being ready that day,” Hill explained. I feel like I can do that with anyone, it’s just a matter of putting that on paper and actually showing up and doing what I think I can do.”

Nominees

[autotag]Michel Pereira[/autotag] (31-11 MMA, 9-2 UFC) put away Ihor Pereira (21-6 MMA, 2-4 UFC) just 54 seconds into their middleweight bout for his eighth win in a row inside the octagon.

Pereira came out and quickly dropped Potieria with a one-two combination. At that moment, in true Pereira fashion, he decided to backflip onto his stunned opponent. Potieria tried to quickly get back to his feet but left himself open for a standing guillotine choke that Pereira locked in tight, forcing the tap just before Potieria fell to sleep.

[autotag]Mansour Barnaoui[/autotag] (21-6) thrilled the French crowd with a slick finish of Yusuke Yachi (26-13) in the opening round of their lightweight bout.

On a two-fight losing skid, Barnaoui bounced back when he needed it most by locking in a D’Arce choke on Yachi that led to the tap.

Add [autotag]Costello van Steenis[/autotag] (15-3) to the list of fighters to successfully pull off a Von Flue choke in a major promotion, this time at the expense of Gregory Babane (23-12).

In a middleweight bout, van Steenis put Babene to sleep with the rare submission to punch his ticket to a shot at a Bellator title.

[autotag]Angela Hill[/autotag] (17-13 MMA, 12-13 UFC) finally has a submission victory on her professional record, but that wasn’t all against Luana Pinheiro (11-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC).

Hill, a UFC strawweight veteran, put a nice feather in her cap at while also securing the most wins in the division’s history by tapping Pinheiro with a mounted guillotine choke at the midway point of the third round.

Former UFC title challenger [autotag]Anthony Smith[/autotag] (38-19 MMA, 13-9 UFC) proved he isn’t done yet when he took the undefeated record of Vitor Petrino (11-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) in their light heavyweight bout.

After a feeling out process on the feet at distance, the two light heavyweights engaged in the clinch. Smith grabbed a hold of Petrino’s neck with a guillotine attempt. Petrino elevated Smith and they crashed to the canvas. Smith’s grip seemed to deepen. Petrino strained before the panic tap came.

Smith, 35, rebounds from a knockout loss to Khalil Rountree and moves to 2-1 in his most recent three bouts. Petrino, 26, loses for the first time as a professional.

‘Grappler Ange’ version of Angela Hill wants Jessica Andrade rematch to start one more UFC title run

More confident than ever after her first submission win, Angela Hill wants a rematch with former UFC champ Jessica Andrade.

LAS VEGAS – After notching the first submission win of her career, [autotag]Angela Hill[/autotag] is as confident as ever, and believes she is ready for one more run for the UFC strawweight title.

At UFC Fight Night 241, Hill (17-13 MMA, 12-13 UFC) wrapped up Luana Pinheiro with a Performance of the Night-winning guillotine choke, forcing her opponent to tap in Round 2. The self-dubbed “Grappler Ange” has arrived, and will likely enter the promotion’s top 10, which means big things opportunities are ahead.

The finish of Pinheiro (11-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) itself was a surprise for Hill, which speaks to her continued growth in the training room, and her ability to adapt to what occurs inside the octagon.

“I didn’t think she was going to shoot on me, so it wasn’t even really in the gameplan,” Hill told reporters during a post-fight news conference. “Like, we didn’t even work on it backstage or anything, but it’s something that I’ve been hitting a lot in the gym. My guillotines, my transitions from the defended guillotines, all that, has been really developing in the gym. For me to be able to sinch that, get it in there, that felt real good.”

After her fight, Hill turned her attention to what may come next. With 25 UFC fights, she has already faced several top names in her division. One name, in particular, stood out above the rest: former champion Jessica Andrade, whom she met in her return to the UFC in 2017. Hill believes getting that Fight of the Night decision loss back would put her in a prime position for a title shot.

“I just think it’s going to be a banger. The first one was,” Hill said. “We’ve both gotten better since then. We’ve both won and lost some big fights. So I feel like this could be another one that gets me straight to that title shot if I win. A win over Andrade has gotten a lot of people a title shot, and I believe I can do it.

“I even had a moment in that fight where I dropped her. I think anyone who pressures me, it helps me find those openings and it helps me get that power. I take some of their power and use it against them, you know? So, I feel like it would be a fun fight. One that’s like, I have a lot of material to prepare for, but also I could show just where I’ve gotten better. I think, hey, I’m a grappler now. I can do it all, so we’ll see how she approaches ‘Grappler Ange.'”

[lawrence-related id=2711116,2742533,2742212]

Whether it’s time to face another new name or get revenge against past opponents, Hill is up for it all. The 39-year-old strawweight striker is eager to get back to action, as she believes she has hit a new stride now that she has begun focusing on the mental side of the game for the first time in her career.

“I’m confident that I belong,” Hill said. “I’m confident that I deserve that run, and my age ain’t nothing but a number. I’m getting more ferocious, I’m more mature in my fight IQ, and I’m not slowing down. It’s not like I can’t hang with the kids, I’m beating up the kids, so give me some more.”

UFC Fight Night 241: Angela Hill taps Luana Pinheiro for first submission, most wins in division history

Angela Hill now has the most wins in UFC strawweight history after scoring her first career submission at UFC Fight Night 241.

[autotag]Angela Hill[/autotag] finally has a submission victory on her professional record, but that wasn’t all.

Hill (17-13 MMA, 12-13 UFC), a UFC strawweight veteran, put a nice feather in her cap at UFC FN 241 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, while also securing the most wins in the division’s history by tapping Luana Pinheiro at 4:12 of Round 2.

Hill performed well in Round 1 behind her well-known striking game, ending the round in dominant position on the mat. In the second round, Hill continued her aggressive offense, and saw an opening to jump on a guillotine attempt, wrapping up Pinheiro (11-3 MMA, 3-2UFC). Hill stuck with it, eventually rolling over into a mounted guillotine, forcing the tap.

Check out video of the finish below (via X):

Hill’s finish gave her the most wins in UFC strawweight history with 11. It’s now two straight for “Overkill,” who entered on the heels of a unanimous decision win over Denise Gomes in November.

During her post-fight interview, Hill called for a female BMF title fight in a rematch with Jessica Andrade, to avenge a loss from 2017 that snapped a four-fight winning streak.
