LSU football lands coveted transfer quarterback from SEC rival

LSU landed another transfer on Sunday, adding a QB from an SEC rival

LSU football added to its quarterback room on Sunday, securing a commitment from Mississippi State transfer Michael Van Buren.

Despite LSU starter Garrett Nussmeier announcing his return, LSU was in the market for a quarterback with several years of eligibility left after backup QB Ricky Collins hit the transfer portal and five-star QB Bryce Underwood flipped to Michigan, leaving LSU without a high school signee in its 2025 class.

With Van Buren, LSU is getting a QB with SEC experience and three years of eligibility.

Van Buren was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 and saw immediate action as a true freshman with Mississippi State. He threw for 1,885 yards and totaled 16 touchdowns with the Bulldogs in 2024. One of Van Buren’s best games came on the road vs Georgia, where he threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns.

For a freshman, Van Buren was advanced when working the middle of the field. He completed 14 passes for 20+ yards, too.

If LSU’s QB room stays intact, it will enter 2025 with Nussmeier, Van Buren, AJ Swann, and Colin Hurley.

Van Buren played his high school football at St. Frances Academy. The same high school that produced LSU women’s basketball legend [autotag]Angel Reese.[/autotag]

LSU has been busy in the transfer portal, with Van Buren marking LSU’s fifth addition.

Caitlin Clark debunks Angel Reese rivalry narrative

Can we all move along now? There is no rivalry.

The Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese rivalry stories dominated the WNBA headlines multiple times this season. Moreover, they’ve been going since the 2023 LSU-Iowa national championship. But now, even Caitlin is seemingly tired of the madness and is debunking the narrative.

Unfortunately, this won’t be the last time we discuss this. Some of you will ignore these words and keep going. (*deep sigh*) However, let the record show that the rivalry narrative has been debunked. Per Sean Gregory of Time, Clark shared that she never understood why people tried to make it a thing. “I don’t get it at all,” Clark said. “We’re not best friends, by any means, but we’re very respectful of one another. Yes, we have had tremendous battles. But when have I ever guarded her? And when has she guarded me?”

She also explained how Reese’s infamous John Cena celly, which seemingly started the narratives, was a nothing burger and that people ran with it. “I didn’t think it was taunting,” she explained. “It really didn’t bother me… the only thing people cared about was this controversy that was really fabricated and made up, and then that has continued to be the case ever since.”

See when Angel Reese will face Caitlin Clark in 2025

When will Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark meet in 2025?

The WNBA released its 2025 schedule and one of college basketball’s best matchups is set to take the court again.

Former LSU women’s basketball standout [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] returns for a second season with the Chicago Sky. The team opens its season on the road against [autotag]Caitlin Clark[/autotag] and Indiana Fever. The May 17 matchup marks the first of five meetings between the squad in the 2025 regular season. Three of those games will be in Indianapolis with the other two in Chicago’s Wintrust Arena.

The Sunday afternoon matchup in Gainbridge Fieldhouse marks the fifth time Reese and the former Iowa guard will face off at the professional level. The Sky finished with a 1-3 record in matchups with Fever last season.

In their first matchup following the 2024 WNBA Draft, the Fever took a 71-70 victory in Indianapolis. Reese pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and scored eight points. Clark flirted with a double-double as she turned in 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Sky’s staff took a new shape in the offseason as Tyler Marsh was named the new head coach in November. He replaced Teresa Weatherspoon, who was fired after one season.

Reese shared an emotional post on X following Weatherspoon’s dismissal, saying, “She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me.”

Angel Reese fangirled meeting Rihanna in wholesome Instagram video

“I love you! The Queen!”

Angel Reese’s WNBA offseason is one for the books. The Chicago Star was recently at a shoe awards event, looking marvelous, when she seemingly stumbled upon Rihanna.

If I ever met Rihanna, I cannot say that I would be as calm as Angel Reese. However, when you seemingly manifest something — as Reese tweeted Wednesday — maybe you prepare yourself for the moment it happens.

Reese was at the Footwear News Achievement Awards, where she received the Style Influencer of the Year award. Of course, being at such an event means you’ll likely run into other famous folks. So, what do you do when you meet? You get video proof. “I love you! The queen!” Reese said to a nearby Rihanna as the pair created a cute Instagram video. She excitedly told the music star that she wanted to work together one day. “Let’s do it,” Rihanna said back to her. “Always ready.” You love to see it.

Angel Reese seemingly had a 1-letter reaction to the Sky reportedly hiring new coach Tyler Marsh

Angel Reese seemingly approves.

The Chicago Sky have reportedly hired a new coach, and superstar forward Angel Reese seems to be a fan of the move.

ESPN reported on Saturday that Las Vegas Aces assistant coach and head of player development Tyler Marsh had agreed to a deal to join the Sky as its next head coach.

Marsh replaces Teresa Weatherspoon, who was fired in September after just one season.

Reese shared a simple “W” on Twitter (X) after news broke of Marsh’s reported hiring, seemingly indicating that she’s happy with the hire.

Chicago will now try to make the 2025 WNBA playoffs, a quest in which both Reese and reportedly Marsh will have key roles in for the franchise.

Flau’Jae Johnson named to preseason watch list for several women’s basketball national awards

Flau’Jae Johnson is expected to have a big year for the Tigers.

It’s the beginning of a new era of sorts for the LSU women’s basketball program.

While it loses [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag], the biggest star from the deep tournament runs the last two seasons, and will rely on a veteran-heavy transfer class, it also returns some key contributors. [autotag]Flau’Jae Johnson[/autotag], who had a breakout season as a sophomore last year, is chief among them.

Johnson, along with teammate [autotag]Aneesah Morrow[/autotag], is the preseason Co-SEC Player of the Year. She has now been named to multiple watch lists for postseason awards.

On Monday, Johnson was named to the watch list for the Naismith Trophy, given to the top player in the nation, and on Tuesday, she also made the cut for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which is given to the top shooting guard.

In the first exhibition of the season against Xavier (New Orleans), Johnson paced the team with 30 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double outing. The Tigers face LSU-Alexandria in another exhibition on Thursday before beginning the regular season against Eastern Kentucky on Monday.

Shaq jokingly thanked Angel Reese for making him look smart with a new Reebok deal

Angel Reese’s awesome new signature shoe deal had Shaq making jokes.

Last year, Shaq leveraged his role with Reebok to bet on Angel Reese while she was still in college. As a result, the Chicago Sky forward now has a new signature shoe deal with the apparel company.

One of Shaq’s first moves as president of basketball was signing Reese to Reebok, the company’s first major NIL deal with an athlete. After a successful college season and a WNBA rookie season in which her fame continued to climb as she broke records, Reese’s deal with Reebok produced not only a clothing line but also something else — a signature shoe.

ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news late Thursday that Reese agreed to a multiyear contract extension and a shoe that hits shelves in 2026. Here’s Reese teasing the announcement on her social media accounts.

Reese also used her Unapologetically Angel podcast to announce her shoe during an episode with her longtime mentor.

While she shared the news, Shaq jokingly said, “When I first came there, I was like, ‘Hey. I want to sign Angel Reese…’ and then we called her. So, thank you for making me look like I know what I’m doing.”

Angel Reese wore an awesome Liberty-Lynx combo jersey courtside at the WNBA Finals

Angel Reese and her jersey were living their best lives at the WNBA Finals.

Angel Reese wore a Liberty-Lynx double jersey for the WNBA Finals, and we’re totally here for it.

With Angel’s season complete, she’s got some time on her hands to prepare for next season and to watch the WNBA Finals. Reese has been seemingly keeping tabs on all the good games and recently decided to support her fellow W colleagues and future Unrivaled pals, Breanna Stewart and Napheeesa Collier, with a double jersey.

On Friday, Reese asked who could make her a Stewie and Phee jersey by Sunday. Thankfully, artist and designer Jocelyn Hu quickly came to the rescue and delivered just in time. Reese wore her unique jersey courtside on Sunday as she watched the Liberty host the Lynx at Barclays.
