How is former LSU star Hailey Van Lith faring at TCU?
In her first year with TCU women’s basketball, Hailey Van Lith is back to turning in standout stats.
The graduate student guard ranks inside the NCAA top five in total assists, the top 10 in assists per game, and top 50 in points per game. Van Lith helped the Horned Frogs get off to their best start in program history and rank No. 10 in the AP poll.
After playing three seasons in Louisville and averaging 14.5 points per game, Van Lith took her talents to Baton Rouge to join the reigning national champions. She teamed up with [autotag]Flau’Jae Johnson[/autotag] and former Tiger [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] for another run at the title.
The Tigers posted a 31-6 record and made it to the Elite Eight in Van Lith’s sole season, but a statistical regression and drop in WNBA Draft stock led her to transfer.
“Her aspirations were to get drafted this year,” LSU head coach Kim Mulkey said following Van Lith’s decision. “and she realized, ‘I need another year, and I need to go back to a place where I can relax and get back to my normal position.’ And what do you do? You hug her, and you wish her well.”
See how Van Lith’s 2024-25 stats stack up against her other college seasons.
Scoring
Van Lith’s field goal percentage increased almost 10 points from last season. She is shooting 46% from the field with TCU, which puts her in the 77th percentile of NCAA Division I. It is up from 37.8% with LSU last year. The 2023-24 season is the only time in her career that her field goal percentage dipped below 40%.
Her 18.3 points per game is the second-highest of her career behind 2022-23 at Louisville. Van Lith boosted her scoring after an 11.6 points per game season with the Tigers, demonstrating a return to scoring the basketball at a high level.
Assists
Through 19 games this season, Van Lith is one assist shy of surpassing her total of 118 from 2023-24. The point guard cemented herself as one of the NCAA’s best facilitators, even posting a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists.
She averages 6.2 assists per game, almost double what she posted at LSU last season and triple that of her years at Louisville. Van Lith is on a mission to make an impression on WNBA teams ahead of the 2025 draft. Her commitment to the point guard role as a scorer and distributor is doing just that.
Turnovers
On par with the point guard role, Van Lith is committed to taking care of the basketball. She averages just 2.4 turnovers per contest through 33.6 minutes of play. Her 2.54 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks No. 24 in the country.
TCU trusts Van Lith with its ball-handling responsibilities. She found her place as an offensive contributor in multiple ways while not turning the ball over and setting her teammates up.
